Very good except for one aspect.
Fairways and tee boxes were some of the best we have played in the past month. Greens were lousy, bumpy with new grass and bare spots alternating side by side. Even 3-4 foot putts were by chance. Not sure why most courses seem to just stop making any effort to make greens more playable during the winter, but it's true at most courses so I am not singling out WW. All in all a positive experience, and the weather was perfect!
Wild Wing Plantation (Avocet)
I played the Avocet course at Wild Wing Plantation with three friends on 11/06/2025. This course is a parkland style golf course with tree-lined fairways, natural waste areas, water and deep faced bunkers. The course was in excellent shape from the fairways to the rough and deep bunkers. This course offers a wide variety of short and long par fours. The short ones offer a great opportunity to score well. It’s an interesting layout, after hole number 6 you pass the halfway house, several times going to your next tee. Earlier in the week we played with a local that said Wild Wing had “lost” their greens approximately a year ago. So, I was a little apprehensive about what kind of shape the greens would be in. The greens are fairly large, multi-tiered. I am happy to say the greens were fantastic and rolled very true. My favorite holes on the course would be number fourteen and fifteen. A short dogleg par four and a strategic par five respectively. The entire staff from the bag drop, to the restaurant, to the pro shop were extremely nice and professional. This was my first time playing and I would definitely come back.
A Little Rough
Fairways were a little rough at times and the greens were in below average shape.
TERRIBLE GREENS
My, Group of 12 from CT played this course a few years back and course conditions then where ok like 7 out of 10. Course conditions when we just played 3/4/25 1 out of 10, TERRIBLE conditions. GREENS ARE AWFUL bare spots dirty, looks like they tried patching area which has made it worse.
My group not happy and will NEVER be back to play this course. Course was expensive to play and will EVERY green in terrible condition makes for waste of time and money.
Awful conditions
Slow bumpy greens with multiple dead spots on every hole. Bare fairways and inconsistent bunkers. Cost more than Kings North and Grand Dunes with the passport. They use to over seed everywhere including the rough, and for the price with the condition it's in they really need to rethink their greens fee. 4 hours 45 min with no marshals. This use to be one of my favorites about 5 years ago but I will not be back. Thistle, True Blue, Kings North are much better courses and condition for the same price point. Played 171 rounds last year with a +1.7 index, this course sucked!
Enjoyed the course but greens were in poor condition. It wasn't a deal breaker for us but look into the condition if it's important to you.
Great layout
Course design is fantastic, many options off the tee boxes. It is winter fair enough, but the fairways are a bit thin grass wise. Greens were not in good condition at all.
The Asst Paul in pro shop that I talked at length with was great . A font of information about the course, memberships and expected all new greens restaurant and pro shop coming soon.
I will definitely be back to play this course when the greens are done in a few months .
Nothing Special
We Didn't feel the course was anything special just an ok course and a little pricy.
Disappointing Round
We had played Wild Wing a couple years ago and enjoyed the round. We looked forward to playing again, and were very disappointed with the condition of the course when we played this past Sunday.. The fairways were not in the best of shape and the greens were very inconsistent, and the worst we had played all week. To make matters worse,, the pace of play was terrible (5+ hrs) with no marshals moving pace along. We still think the course layout is great and wiould like to play it again if the course conditions improve.
