Great Course
Love Myrtle Beach National West! Fantastic green conditions and the fairways, bunkers, and tee boxes were clean and beautiful.
Open Fairways
This was our first time at the course. We were paired up with a local single who helped us with some of the tricky spots. Water did not disadvantage us and we found the fairways receptive. The greens were challenging because of sloping, but we were advised this would be the case before we started. We had a good time although the cloud cover could have remained in place to make the experience a little better heatwise.
Pace of Play was NOT great
The starter drove around a couple different times. But we had a 4 some in front of us and would have been very nice for them to have let us play through. But they had no interest in that!
Not the starter’s fault by any means! But I did see him drive around a couple times and I feel that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have the starter or any employee who is driving around and if they SEE a group of pairing waiting to check on playing thru. Just an idea. Honestly, my brother and I went golfing together and our family was back at the condo since we are on vacation from Wisconsin and the round too WAY longer than it should have.
Very nice course to play.
Not to difficult course in great condition with friendly staff. Beautiful surroundings. Play well organized.
My review
Greens were not great. Didn’t get true role. Fairways were not great, sandy and lacked grass in places and a couple of tee boxes were in very poor shape. Expected more from MB national. Will likely not play again (at least the west course)
MBN West
Very crowded that morning we teed off probably 30 minutes after our tee time, pace of play was very slow first couple of holes but once everybody got going it got better, my husband and I really enjoyed the course.
Go WEST Young Man
The WEST course was fun, challenging, and fair outing. Playing conditions were great, as usual. The greens played a little slow, but that's to be expected at a resort golf location. Pace of play was very steady. The cart was in good condition as well. The only negative was the driving range. Absolutely no grass available anywhere in the designated hitting areas.
Never again
Played the West course. We had an 8:02 am tee time and pulled up the starter and he told us to jump in and play with the twosome that was on the tee box so we drove up and jumped off the cart and hit both our tee shots. The other twosome was a male and female who told us they were brand ne players. First off I am a strong supporter of growing the game to new people. The female had only hit her ball about a total of 50 yards in 4 shots and the guy hit two out of bounds. We suggested they play the best ball and may want to play a little quicker pace to avoid a big backup from the groups behind us. They struggled and did the same thing on the second hole so I called the clubhouse and asked them to send someone out to us to handle the situation. He showed up and I pulled him aside and explained what was happening and that I was the one who called. I told him this 3 times at this point. He then told me that we needed to pick up the pace of play because someone had already called in and it looked like we were behind the group ahead of us. I then repeated that IT WAS ME who had called for him to handle the situation. The other people had pulled up their cart to us at this point and he then says out loud "S you (pointing at me) called about them playing slow?" This is the WORST possible way he could've handled this. I am very disappointed in his actions and he put me and my son in a horrible situation to say the least. We ended up skipping ahead two holes to avoid a 6 hour round. I wasn't mad at the two new golfers but I was highly upset at the ranger for what he did in the whole ordeal. This is the second time I've had an incited at this course and we will never be back.
Unacceptable
Played the West course. We had an 8:02 am tee time and pulled up to the starter and he told us to jump in and play with the twosome that was currently on the tee box. We drove up, jumped off the cart and hit both our tee shots. The other twosome was a male and female and were brand new to golf. First off I am a strong supporter of growing the game to new people. The female only hit her ball a total of 50 yards after 4 shots so we suggested they play best ball between them. They struggled again on the second hole so I made a call to the clubhouse and asked them to send a ranger out to handle the situation so we wouldn’t have several groups behind us so backed. He showed up and I pulled him aside and explained what was happening and told him I was the one who called. I repeated this to him 3 times. He then told me that we needed to pick up the pace because we were already too far behind the group ahead and someone had already called and complained. I then repeated a fourth time that it was ME who had called. The other two people had pulled up their cart at this point and were still not sure what was happening and the ranger says out loud so all could hear “so you (meaning me) called and complained about them?” It was the worst possible way he could’ve been handled. I am very disappointed in his actions and he put me and my son in a horrible situation. We ended up skipping ahead two holes to avoid staying in what would have been a 6 hour round. I wasn’t mad at the two new golfers at all. I was highly upset at the ranger who botched the situation up so miserably. This is the second time I have had an incident at this course and we will never be back.
MBN WEST COURSE
Pace of play was excellent. Course conditions average. Tee boxes and greens looked like a cow pasture on some holes. I played here years ago and was a bit disappointed in the current conditions. Grill was closed in the middle of the afternoon. We played on a Saturday afternoon.
Better Spend Some Money on the Tee Boxes
As good of condition were the greens, the tee boxes were awful. Very scratchy and little grass to be seen
