Myrtle Beach National Golf Club - King's North Course
About
For years, the King's North Course at Myrtle Beach National has been the most requested and best recognized golf course on the Grand Strand. The par-3, third hole with its island green and South Carolina-shaped sandtraps has become the signature hole for Myrtle Beach. King's North features some dramatic and unique holes. The par-5 sixth hole is nicknamed "The Gambler" and features an unusual island fairway which offers golfers a risk-reward short-cut to the green for a chance at eagle. The 18th hole, nicknamed "The Bull's-eye" by Golf Magazine, is a sight to behold. More than 40 sandtraps guard either side of the fairway and the green reaches out into a lake offering, at times, a very tempting pin placement.

Kings North rounds
Played twice at Kings North and like the layout and isn’t easy. Played early on first round and was approached by ranger to keep up with group ahead. I agree we were slow but ranger could have said it more nicely. He must have been a drill sargent in his younger years. Second round in afternoon was longer just over 5 hours.
I played the gambler two ways. First time to the island area but was unsuccessful with reaching the green even using more club on third shot. Took longer route in second round and made par. Fun to have the two options.
You have to play this course!!
This was our first time playing the North course We were beyond impressed. We pulled in and used the bag drop for our clubs. They gave us a cart immediately The tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in perfect condition. Pro shop staff were helpful and friendly. There was a great selection of hats and clothing. We didn’t eat any food, but we did have drinks and the service was good. We hit balls at the range. We hit off mats, but you’re able to stick a tee into the mat to hit your driver. The putting green was in great condition . We were able to practice our chipping onto the practice green and work on our bunker shots out of the pristine sand. Pace of play was great. Played first nine holes in under 2 hours and the second kept the same great pace under 2 hours. We will definitely be back
One of the best courses ever played
The course layout is excellent and condition is perfect, this is on the top of my best courses list
Redo Is Excellent
The course was in excellent condition, with an awesome course refresh. I would tell you to pick the proper tees & you will enjoy yourself immensely.
Lots of force carry into par 3's, tricky pin placements & a few par 4's over water will hold your attention. Pick the proper tees, know your carry numbers and club up if you don't play MB golf often.
Kings North
Always great playing here. Had early afternoon tee time and they had groups going off on the front and back. Group in front of us was pretty slow and we pushed them all day. Greens quite hard and had several bounce off the back. Bunkers all very nice (and I was in a lot).
Lack of updates
No previous notifications on course updated over the winter with new course layout and still requiring course map and handicap updates coming in April, overall I will play this again when it is warmer
Hope you like water
The second course we played during a golf weekend in N Myrtle Beach (Coastal Golfways), this one was a tad easier than River Hills. At least you could hit driver on most holes without the fear of losing a dozen balls. The layout was quite entertaining, but did require you to hit the ball to specific spots. There were a fair amount of forced carries over water, including an island green. I will be honest in saying my game wasn't up to its usual level, making this course a lot harder than it needed to be. Lots of contour in the greens, and I never did get the feel for the turf they use on the greens. Course definitely would have been more fun had I been hitting the ball better. The average bogey golfer will struggle on this course. We did have a good time regardless.
Thought it was a nice course but for $140. No way too muuchh
Anticipation Lost
Myrtle Beach National North Course is undergoing some construction. Only the front nine is playable. Players are being rerouted to the front nine of the West course. Since I had already played the West course the day before, this option did not appeal to me. Consequently I canceled my Tee Time
North and West course
We played the North front nine first which was very nice. Conditions were excellent. We were switched to the West front nine at the turn due to renovations on the North back nine. The condition of the West front nine was not good. Some of the tee boxes had no grass and some of the greens had bare spots.
Never disappoints
Played this course 4 times and it’s always in great shape. First time playing the North course since its makeover and those 9 holes were perfectly laid out. Cannot wait for the back 9 to be done. Played the south course twice this trip as well. Challenging enough, however very player friendly as well.
Kings north is awesome pace of play was bad
I loved playing kings north since I love to play all Arnold Palmer courses. The course in mid May was in perfect shape. The only hole that wasn’t in the greatest shape was hole 18. By the sounds of it they were in the process of getting ready to re do that back 9. The club house was packed full of awesome gear and accessories but the club house needs to be redone. Very outdated. Golf carts were in rough shape but I wasn’t there to be in the club house or to just drive in the carts. The course was awesome!!
First time played
This Arnold Palmer design is a challenge. I found it a bit long for my game, but the greens were in excellent shape (after 3-4 days of moderate rain). The sand bunkers on the back nine are being re-worked this summer. Staff was courteous and accommodating, and there is a snack/beverage cart available. Overall, I’d go back.
The best course in MB National
Second time playing this course. Fun and nice layout. We paid 135$USD, which I find a bit high for the quality. Golf carts are a bit old and they would need some new ones. Some golf cart paths are broken/cracked and would need "some love". Otherwise, the course is presently in great shape. The greens are beautiful, but a bit slow when we compared it to other courses we played this week. Nice course and layout, I would be back, but be careful to the price you pay.
Challenging but fun
A group of us in town randomly chose Kings North to play and glad we did. When we arrived it looked very busy. We were a little apprehensive, but there are 3 courses on property and it looked busier than it was. Bag drop was painless and clubs were on our cart by the time we checked in at the club house. Starter was very thorough in explaining the course and very helpful for us out of towners. As for the course itself, the layout was fantastic. It seemed like there was water on every hole. The greens were big but very undulating. They rolled pretty good for March. The only negative of the round is we often found our ball in the fairway and in an old divot or indentation. Not sure if it was because it was early in the season or what. In all the course was challenging but was a lot of fun.
