River Oaks Golf Club

About
River Oaks Golf Club stretches across more than 800 scenic acres along the Intracoastal Waterway. The Course begins with the shortest of the three nines and finishes with the longest. The final hole on the front nine presents one of the most interesting risk-reward opportunities on the golf course. You can aim for the right bunker for an open shot at the green or try a long drive down the left side for a short approach. River Oaks Golf Clubs' Otter nine has several challenges in store including mounding, strategically placed bunkers, and tricky water hazards.

Great Staff and Value
Staff was helpful, pace was fast, and value was great.
Go somewhere else - this place is closing
They’re turning the course into condos - go play somewhere else. Sand was unplayable, greens were bad. Course closing in 2 months so I understand the no upkeep. It was priced the same as others great courses in the area
Great
Course was in good shape after heavy rains day before.
Lots of fireants so beware
Truly Disappointing—River Oaks Should Be Avoided
Just played River Oaks, and I can't say enough about how bad the conditions were. The sand traps were basically water hazards—every single one was filled with dirty, stagnant water, making them both unplayable and ball-swallowing. If your ball finds the sand, good luck ever seeing it again.
I understand Myrtle Beach has had a lot of rain lately, but that's no excuse for the rest of the course. The fairways were in horrible shape—actually the worst I’ve seen anywhere. Weeds are taking over almost every hole, and the maintenance looks nonexistent. You’d think, with all the rain, you'd get some lush grass, but all I saw was patchy mess and crabgrass everywhere.
From checking other reviews, it’s not just me. Many people complain about MAJOR drainage issues, even when there hasn’t been heavy rain—one reviewer described holes that were basically swamps and virtually every bunker under water. Greens have been reported as having large dead or burnt spots, making putting a total guessing game. Course staff seem unmotivated, and the lack of care is obvious, especially now that word’s out the course is closing soon—they’re clearly letting everything go downhill.
You’re better off booking at one of the dozens of other courses in Myrtle Beach that actually take course maintenance and customer experience seriously. Unless you want to play on a swampy, neglected cow pasture, keep looking.
Relaxed Round
We had a fun time. Course was muddy from lots of rain so no fault of the club. Will play again.
Excellent
Very friendly and home town feel. Welcoming and inviting. My son daughter and myself played in afternoon after a downpour and conditions dried to a regular game of play. We all loved the course!
Loved to play
Going to miss playing here when I go down to Myrtle Beach. Was informed the course will be closing November 1st of this year. Recommend playing before you miss out. Fair price, fun course and a fair play to it.
Letting it go bc they are closing.
I would not tell anyone to play it. Still charging premium prices. Have lost their greens. Not maintaining course. Have lost most of their staff. “Kids” are being used to work and the three I saw were parked next to a hole, texting for at least half a hour. Really wish GOLF NOW would refund my money so I could play another course. I will think twice about using this site since you give no warnings!
Shame
This is a great course. It’s a shame that they ripping it up for more houses. I’ve played many times before and I believe the conditions of the course are suffering because they know it’s not worth spending the money with its imminent demise. Going to miss it. The staff is great!
Hit or miss
Sorry the course will be closing. Perhaps that's why the condition is not the best. Some greens and tee boxes were in decent shape. But others were browned out and a little rough. Fairways were in decent shape but the traps were unplayable. Many traps were underwater.
