fastest Black friday round ever!
The course had a promo to promote fast play and it worked! We started around noon and played in just over 4 hours.
Good course
The Metropolitan Golf links is a good course in good condition.
Pace of play was slow.
There are a few challenging holes but most are doable.
Today was not windy which is usually not the case.
Metropolitan
We enjoyed playing this golf course. We all will return to play again.
Links style
The wind is the course defense, and it is a nice test of golf. The freens are almost always in great shape, the rest of the course is average. I mostly care about the greens because we play friendly golf so you can bump your ball just about anywhere...
Ridiculously slow pace
Second and most likely last time playing this course. Took four hours to get through 13 holes and left because I got tired of waiting at every single hole and for every single shot. It was backed up one group at hole 2 and by hole 4 it was backed up two groups. The folks in front were hacking away 30-40 yards at a time and still keeping pace with the group ahead. Each shot took so long I could have had an artist paint me a portrait for every shot and probably still would have time left over. Completely insane that a course could get this slow and basically have no marshall intervention. If anyone has ever wanted to film a documentary or YouTube video about the slow play of golf or the effects of aging, come play at Metropolitan! That’s really the only reason to ware your life away here.
Beautiful day
Greens in great shape. Pace was a little slow, but we were able to pass on 7. Wind was moderate and overall a very nice for golf. Round done in 4 hours exactly. Good time considering first 6 holes were slow.
Fun and Interesting Links Inspired Course
This review may sound negative, but overall, this is a fun and fair test of golf. These are the small details that I took away from the experience, but overall I will be adding this course to my rotation.
Booked a tee time @ 2:00 and we had no one in front of us for most of the round. Got around 18 with a 3-some in about 3:30, but I could see a round taking 5+ if you're stuck in gridlock.
This was my first time playing since 2006. Layout is a little difficult to understand the direction of the holes if you've never played before. Good mix of doglegs and the longer holes play with the prevailing wind. The green shape is deceptive on most approach shots. Otherwise a fair test of golf. Some holes are narrow, especially around the greens and the native grasses were a nice touch.
There are some bare spots on the edges of the fairways by the carts and in other high traffic areas. They were replacing the sod on 3 tee boxes (mainly par 3's) and those were playing under 100 yards.
Greens are challenging with a fair amount of break, but the pace of the greens is slower than I'd like. We played on a day with 10 MPH max of wind, but I can understand why they'd need to keep the greens slower for playability and to keep balls on the greens. Rough was basically non-existent off the fairway.
Yardage markers are terrible. Difficult to find and when you do, most of them do not have a yardage. Make sure to bring your GPS or laser device.
Fun track!
I had the pleasure of joining a threesome who had knowledge of this course. It was very helpful for knowing where to position the tee shots. Bunkering was variable but the groundskeeping staff was working to improve the tee boxes when we played. I will be back for sure.
Course isn’t in a good shape
The course isn’t in a good shape. Fairways need maintenance. Greens needs to be better maintained.
Cow Pasture
While the greens and bunkers were in good condition the fairways are 50% dirt. The clubhouse restroom had an overwhelming stench of urine.
When it’s hot it’s not
When the temperature reached over 100 in the east bay and your golf addiction kick in this is the place the fairways are in great shape and the greens in excellent conditions the temperature could be 20 degrees different why not
Confusing layout
Course fairways not maintained, greens are on the slow side. Black and white pole for different yard markers, one was 200 yrd and another set up as 100 yrd. The layout just seamed all over the place.
Rushed
Waited forever behind a 4some but kept my distance and le them do their thing. The People behind us weren’t as cordial
BC
Love the greens the rough was high run off on the fairways
Still one of the most solid public courses in the bay
Fairways were a bit patchy but greens were fast and true. Tee off was 3pm and we finished our round by 6:30! Windy as usual but not as bad as I’ve experienced in the past... great value at $24!
Excellent
Greens in great shape. Fairways very good. Teed off early which made wind minimal. Pace was outstanding. As part of foursome we were done in 4.08.
