We played this course on a holiday (MLK Jr Day) and it was fairly crowded but the foursome in front of us was a hole behind all day until the marshall talked to them on hole #15. The course was wet and the greens were fast. We paid a holiday green fee ($52) and this course is not worth that price but I do like the layout.
Great Course in Oakland
Metro is a solid links-style layout with great greens and excellent drainage. Winter golf is great unless the rain is torrential.
The clubhouse staff is top drawer; always friendly and helpful in getting you out on the course.
Strategy wise, Metro is all about the wind. The design of the course gives you wind help where you need it and makes holes into the wind a challenge. Greens are always in good shape and provide interesting challenges with lots of undulation.
The greens are usually very good but they were a little choppy than usual. The fairways need a little TLC but the course is in pretty good shape.
Always in shape
Best winter course on this side. Hold up well....
Almost always in great shape. Watch out for the wind though....
Pace of play
I really liked the idea of on and off course incentives for our pace of play. I would encourage all golf courses to do the same. Great idea!!!
Metropolitan, a long and open course
I teed off at 12:30 on Sunday and finished at right about 5:00pm. Pace was slower than I'd like due to the 3 groups ahead. Metropolitan is mostly flat. If you hit on a mound, you're looking at just a slight slant. This course is also one of the most boring I've played on. All you see is open grass and golfers. Hardly any nature bits at all to appreciate.
In addition, the golf cart paths are designed in such an interesting maze. Here's the funny part. You're following your ball and driving on the fairway until you realize that you're on a different hole and have to find your way to the proper path. Occasionally, I unconsciously realized that I was on another person's fairway...that's dangerous! This course needs proper dividers that intuitively guide golfers to the next hole as well as keep them on the hole they're playing on.
Lastly, this is such a long course. If you're out of shape or don't have the endurance to make it though all 18 holes, this course isn't for you. I drove a cart and was so winded after the 9th...
...golf is hard :(
Metro
It was just ok to play
Need a Marshall(on duty) to make sure all golfers keep the pace going.
I'll play here again.
Always a pretty good experience
Course in pretty decent shape, a couple of tee boxes need work/leveling, greens very good as always. The thing that kills this place is pace of play issues, primarily caused by people playing tee boxes they have no business playing. The black tee markers should be removed altogether, at least on weekends. Five hours plus is the norm for this place and when you start before 9a, that's unacceptable, I can't imagine what it would be like to play here starting later in the day, you may not finish your round the same day you started.
THIS COURSE IS GOOD CONDITION. pace of play is slow.
Put maps on the hole
There were no maps or signs on the 10th hole (par 5 I remember). I lost the course after I made a driver shot. On my second shot, I was confused and I hit toward the 11th hole. I hope you can fix this.
Everything except that was perfect.
It took us 3 1/2 hours to play 10 holes. We walked off.
Too slow
Pace is too slow, took over 5 hours on a Wednesday afternoon. Course marshal should have done a better job, moving the pace.
a great track and challenge
always a fun place to play, yes you will have wind to deal with, but it's a good test of your game and the course condition always seems to be good.
