This course has great view.
This course has very good condition, fairway n green
Enjoyable
Nice links style track literally next to Oakland Airport. I had a very enjoyable round and was paired up with a threesome.
Course was in decent shape considering the drought. I'd recommend.
Good bang for your buck
Greens were in good shape, they never disappoint. There were some pretty rough spots grass wise on a few holes. Otherwise, another good day at Metro.
Great course!
Excellent experience at Metropolitan. Their layout sets you up for a challenging game of golf that you'll never get tired of. Their customer support staff are great and friendly. Incidentally, I shot an eagle on hole 17 on a windy day. Thanks Metropolitan!
Metro
This is a nice links track. For $40 its the best. Wind kicks up by noon, but you have to expect it near the bay
Decent course and great proximity
Main selling point is proximity to SF. It's a good course for the $. Staff is helpful and courteous. Clubhouse is nice - almost always a wedding just off of it on Sunday afternoons. Always liked playing here.
This course has awesome course .
I like this course because you can play all season, no problem at all , green are great, fairway are good and challenging course.
I love it!!!!
6 over par
I really enjoy this course, especially for the rate from golfnow.com. Some of the fairways could use a little work but playable, the greens are on point.
Great links challenge
Fabulous green conditions. Great practice facilities. If you haven't played links course before, the relative lack of boundary references will throw you off at first. Ability to keep the ball low and shape shots according to the wind direction will make you a better player. This course will force you to control your shots. It was a challenging and productive round of golf.
Pay attention to the direction of the wind
One of the few links type courses in the Bay Area.
So no trees to avoid, but plenty of places, wet and environmentally protected, to lose errant shots. The course has a good drainage system from fairways to greens. It wasn't that windy, but it is necessary to notice the direction of the wind when hitting up to the greens.
The all of the staff in the pro shop, restaurant, and on the course were all very cordial and accommodating.
The cart GPS was very helpful.
We took advantage of the Senior golf, cart, sandwich/chips package deal.
One of our foursome plays Metropolitan once a week, the rest of us every few months, but we did have an enjoyable round.
Course in good shape
Played a round on a Sunday afternoon. Off at 2:20. Round took 4:45 to complete. Now that it is light out later into the day, was able to finish the round. Paid $25 for the round. Great value for this course. The course is in good shape. The greens roll true. Staff was friendly. Did not take the time to eat there. Can be windy and the flight path for smaller planes is right over the course, so if noise bothers you thiat may be a factor. I would recommend this course.
Crowded but pace of play was excellent
Knowing my partner was running behind, I called ahead to see if they could accommodate a later start request. Metro had a time three hours later, which would not work. We arrived 30 minutes later and the starter had taken my request to mind and found a later slot for us to play. We waited just ten minutes! Fantastic accommodation and much appreciated. The round took only four hours. We teed off just before 9 am. The greens were in great shape. The fairways not so much. Thanks again to the considerate staff.
Great public course
Good course. Good condition. It gets a bit windy late in the afternoon. Overall, I enjoyed playing this course.
Windy but great day
Very windy day (30+MPH at times) but course was in good shape, with only a few hard pan areas.. exceptional considering the drought we are in. played in 4:15, even though we are mid-handicappers. waited on the tee box on a couple of par 3s, otherwise groups ahead kept up. Grill service was OK, but it did take 20 minutes for one of our foursome's club sandwiches to show up at the 19th hole. that was anomalous.. usually food comes quickly.
SLOOOOOOOW PLAY...NEED TO HIRE AN ACTUAL MARSHAL
Metro has always been a great value and a nice links style course to play but this past Sunday's round put a nail in the coffin for me. We were waiting on the 2nd tee box and only got 5 holes in during the first 2 hours. There were 3 groups piled up on tee boxes. I've never seen such a poorly managed starter box and flow for a golf course. We tried to get a rain check and were refunded half our round. Enjoy the course if you like to wait 5-10 mins btwn shots.
Challenging
This was a tough course with not many bail out holes.
You must be straight off the tee on most of the holes
or you will run through a half dozen balls quick. The rough is tall and thick which add strokes in a hurry. I used my three wood off most of the tee's which proved to be the smart play. This course plays like a US Open
style course with no chance for par if you miss a fairway.
Slow and Stupid
We were second out on Sunday morning...a glorious beautiful sunrise greeted us as we teed off right on time at 6:55am....UNFORTUNATELY the first off group was a disaster and was intent on playing a 41/2-5 hour round. We waited on nearly every shot. It backed up the entire course with the ripple effect. We complained...we believe the marshal spoke to them, but it did not good....finished at least an hour later then we would have if that group had been your "normal" early morning group....GUYS, if you are slow or a bad golfer....PLEASE do not take the early tee times..go at 10 or whatever...Terrible--the death of golf
A relatively good municipal golf course
The only star I took away is that the rough on both sides of the fairway is terrible. Lots of holes and unrepaired divots. Frequent flying over planes is a little bit annoying too. However the fairway and the green are marvelous. The fairway is well maintained. The green speed is a little fast but very predictable.
The Old Tony Lema
This course has been around for quite some time, they just changed the name and improved the greens. There are some carries over water and it can get windy here, right next to the Oakland Airport. They get lots of senior play and pace of play could be better. All in all it's a fun course and i would recommend it, especially if you can get a discount price, $40 during the week is to high.
February golf treat
The pre storm weather was calm and delightful and we enjoyed good conditions on the links style course.
Keeping the ball in the faurways pays premiums here and on a couple holes, forced acrries are needed to score well.
Metro is the old Lew Galbraith course. Tony Lema is now Monarch Bay.
