Overpriced Under Current Conditions
The course seemed like a decent design, but it seems way overpriced, especially under current conditions. There was black plastic fencing around all the water hazards, which makes it look pretty ugly, and lots of ground under repair. A lot of the holes I could barely tell where I was supposed to be hitting because it was like one big patch of brownish green (and it's a links-style course, so there aren't many trees). It's decently challenging as a course, but I paid $60 to play there, which was supposedly a discount. It's not bad, it just seems more like a $45 course to me. I can't imagine paying more than $60 to play here, especially under the current conditions. The greens were in good condition though.
good value for money
I went to Metropolitan because it's been raining a lot, and the course drains well. Today it wasn't windy, and the sun was
out so it was relatively warm. Some of the fairways are rough, but the greens were okay. It's fairly open but some holes demand
accurate placement of drives.
Well designed and challenging course
Unusual layout with challenging holes, well maintained and friendly staff.
Slow Play
Course conditions were good. However, the pace of golfers was slow. Did not finish 18 holes before sunset.
Well kept for a muni and very affordable.
Played on 12/22/2012. Area had some rain recently and the wind was blowing fiercely, which helped dry the course out decently. With the wind (15-20 mph), the course is definitely a challenge and forces you to think about how to play the next shot. Some holes became shorter and others became super long. I was greatly surprised with the conditions of the greens. Receptive and rolling very true. Faster than I expected, given the recent rains. People were scared off by the weather forecast, so it was just me and a buddy taking our sweet time that day. The course is advertised as links style, which is true in that there are very few trees but you really can't roll putts from off the green like on true links courses. The nice thing is that you can hit pretty far off line and still be able to play a recovery shot.
Golfnow prepaid tee time was a huge deal - only $33 per person including cart loaded with GPS!
Really nice course
@$40. on golf now this was a treat. The course was in great shape even after the rains. Had a wonderful time.
Great Course
The course is in good condition and well maintained. This course is one of the great golf courses in the bay area and close in in Oakland. I would highly recommend this course.
Very Playable Condidtions during RAINY season
The sand plated fairways make this the MUST play spot during the winter months... MORE bay Area courses should take a GOOD LONG LOOK at what Metro has done....
Always one of my favorite Bay Area courses. It has great true greens and drains well.
Always one of my favorite Bay Area courses. It has great true greens and drains well. Good prices through Golfnow makes it even better!
This course has the best drainage after rain in East Bay.
Whenever rains, this is the best course drains well. Fairway conditions are OK, but excellent grees. They know how to maintain green speed and rolls.
everything was good from booking to playing thank you
hey
got there at 12 oclock tee time 1208 got right on played from whites all tee boxs were good faiways good greens overall good course
Excellent course for the money!
Metropolitan is one of the best golf values in the bay area. The course can be very challenging depending on what tees you choose to hit from. The overall condition of the course is good and the greens are very good. The price point of $40 with a cart is tough to beat.
The one true annoyance is the number of geese and coots we encountered on a few different holes. The seventeenth fairway nearer to the water appeared to be a bird sanctuary.
Metro is in great shape!
High traffic muni course that is in great shape. Played in the rain, and the greens were still rolling! Drains well in the winter. Can get a bit crowded, particularly in good weather, but marshals do a pretty good job.
Great Course,Great Staff,Great Value. Will Play again.
Great Customer Service. Tough Golf Course but will definitely Play again. Good value.
Best Public course in the East Bay
We were the first group out at 7:04 so we finished in 3 hours. The course was in good shape and the price was reasonable.
Nice urban course
Good design - the layout makes the most of the land available, plays like a much longer course, especially with the normal windy conditions. Generally well-maintained, an enjoyable & challenging course.
Won't go back
The course need attention to greens and fairways.
The pace was over 5 hours, a number of players on
the blue tees were clearly duffers. They need more
marshalls.
fun and challenging course
Very windy, makes playing hard. I was behind a tournament and for this reason play was very slow! I left after 13 holes.
