About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Course is perfect.
course Is in great shape, very challenging, with placements on the green very important for scoring, Great views without a house in site, definitely a must play. The practice facilities are also what puts this course above and beyond.
A gem
Considering the recent rainfall, the course was in very good shape. A fantastic 36 holes, always a pleasure to visit and well worth the effort to travel that bit further, it is worth it.
My travel companion was made welcome and we enjoyed a nice meal in the clubhouse.
The best - world woods!
Always a blast to play at World Woods. Pine Barrens was in very good shape, and its just a joy to play there!
What a treat
Great day at World Woods. Make sure to spend the majority of your warmup at the putting greens NEXT to the first tee. Not the one close to the range!!
Enjoy and don’t even hesitate buying that hot deal time.
Never disappointing playing here.
Fast greens, great conditioned fairways and a challenging layout makes it a must play again and again.Just wish I lived closer to play it more often.
Great course
Pine Barrens was in excellent shape and we really enjoyed the course. Would recommend it to anyone.
Not even a lone ranger
I really wanted to give this course 5 stars. I typically shoot in the low 80s on a course 6,100 yards long. We played from the whites (5,800 yards) and I worked hard for a 84. Most of the greens are difficult, canted severely and with many subtle breaks. But they were in good condition and true so I won't complain much. The concrete cart paths are crumbling and you can lose a tooth bouncing around on them if you are not careful. The course is pretty. Lots of elevation changes, twists, turns, waste areas in front of the tee box, huge bunkers in front of elevated greens--a real test. You need to play it twice to learn where to [attempt to] hit your drive. My biggest gripe: our round took 5 hours and 15 minutes!! And there was nary a ranger in site the whole round. We waited on almost every tee and sometimes we waited 10 minutes. If not for the great weather and a decent score, it would have been one of the most miserable rounds of the year.
Pine Barrens
Another great round on a very challenging Pine Barrens course...
Top Layout
My wife and I first played Pine Barrens 2 years ago and I was looking forward to playing the course again. This is one of the best layouts anywhere and great value through Golf Now. The staff were friendly and the course was in great condition although the greens were slower than on our last visit. The pin positions were difficult being cut on slopes on virtually every green. Our only real problem was the pace of play. There was no starter or Marshall and we were held up on every shot after the first 3 holes. This did detract from our game. If Marshall’s are not available it would help if the management stressed to players the need to wave faster groups through. That said I could not come to Florida without playing both the courses at World Woods.
Pine Barons course
Great course conditions, greens rolled true. Played from the blue tees, very challenging. Must play !!!!
Wow!
Great conditions. Greens were perfect. They have some slope. Everywhere, so nice to hit off of. Fun!
always a pleasure
What a treat to play Pine Barrens! Course was in good shape, pace of play a bit slower than usual, but the longer to stay there, the better!
Great Track
A must play if you are in the area. It is one of the better designs and value for your money within a drive of Orlando and Tampa. Course was in better condition then the previous couple of times I have played it. Glad to see the maintenance practices have improved. This track is one of Fazio's best in my opinion. Greens were a little fuzzy. If they cut them down and trim the fairways a little course would be in great firm and fast condition.
I would give 10 stars if I could !
Well, this is a hidden gem in the wilderness, 2 world class courses, great practice facility, and an atmosphere of true pastoral beauty. Zero houses just you and the course. Don't be fooled by the modest introduction as you drive in and register....very friendly in every way.
must play
pine barrens is a must play. course is a great layout, good conditions and very challenging.
The greens can be somewhat unfair though. Not a flat spot on most of them therefore cups are constantly cut on slopes and many pin placements are just unfair.
great collection of short and long holes. Put it on your list
Best of the Best
every time I turn into the driveway at Worls Woods I say " I'm here" ! These are the finest golf courses in the entire Tampa Bay area (and I have played them all) . Both courses are perfect and I love to alternate between the two . No comparable course in all western Florida . World Woods is the Top and all others are rated vs World Woods .
