About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
Rolling Oaks is one of two championship courses at World Woods Golf Club. The layout offers something completely different from the renowned Pine Barrens course at the club, but it still offers the same amount of challenge and quality. The golf course is named after its landscape of rolling hills and forests of centuries old Oak trees draped with Spanish moss. Lush, rolling fairways lead to undulating greens that are protected by sharply defined, white sand bunkers. Water hazards come into play on three holes. The golf course has a traditional design but the dramatic elevation changes and picturesque landscape covered in azaleas, dogwoods, and magnolia trees really make it stand out. In addition to the two golf courses, World Woods also offers a nine-hole practice course and a circular, 20-acre driving range with target greens and practice bunkers.

This is me on one of the more difficult par 5's. If you play it and your a long ball, play it to the right fairway...You can make it...Lol.. Photo submitted by Robert5455343 on 11/16/2013

Twice in Four Days!
I enjoyed my first experience so much that I played again four days later so my wife could play it as well. We both loved the layout and the course overall.
Not simply "the other course" at World Woods
Many, many times I have stood waiting to hit on the fifth tee at World Woods Pine Barrens, looked a wedge over to the left and wondered "Why is that course wide open?" That course is the Rolling Oaks course that does not get all the local and national attention at World Woods, but it is honestly as good or better than 90% of the courses in the state of Florida. Just like Pine Barrens, Rolling Oaks is generally in excellent condition with grass every place you would expect and no issues with bumpy cart paths. The difference between the two courses, other than the obvious play one gets over the other, is the lack of waste bunkers and forced carries on Rolling Oaks. This makes Rolling Oaks much more forgiving tee to green, while calling it easy would be a stretch. In some cases, the greens on Rolling Oaks may be tougher to putt than Pine Barrens because some are rather large and have plenty of confusing reads. The back nine on Rolling Oaks offers more challenges than the front due in part to its elevation changes and more trees catching errant tee shots. Rolling Oaks clearly is much more suited than Pine Barrens for the less-experienced player and is almost always faster for pace of play. If you only want to make the drive to World Woods once every so often and choose to play both, hit Rolling Oaks late morning and then Pine Barrens afterwards. Just beware of the extremely hungry squirrels and other wildlife on the property. They are famous for invading your unattended golf cart and leaving with peanut butter crackers, potato chips or any other food that is in plain sight. It happened to me and the beverage cart girls will confirm it can happen to you too.
tricky greens
Don't usually do reviews.but I read a few the dogged the shape of the greens and thought I should respond. The greens were in great shape, with the exception of one that a repair area around the edge. It was marked for relief. They were a touch slow and difficult to read, but in great shape none the less.
Highly reccommend!!
Disappointing
I've been in Tampa for 1 yr now & kept hearing about how great this course was. It sure doesn't live up to the hype. The club house is below average, The bar is VERY limited, The fairways are in good shape, but the greens are slow/ hard & bumpy, 1 drink cart for 2 - 18 hole runs. For a course that costs well over $60 to 70 dollars to play you can find MUCH better options in Tampa. This would be a good value at $25 to $30. You can see where at one time someone had grand plans that just never happened.
A Taste Of NC in Fla
First time at Rolling Oaks. The entire facility was impressive from range to layout to course. The clubhouse seemed a bit sparse considering the golf amenities, but I didn't go there for the dining. The course was in fantastic shape, the greens were amazing, be aware there are no level putts anywhere that I could see. It's a real test. Not much water to deal with on the course. Trees galore with elevation changes aplenty make you think you are not in Fla. Ninety plus degree temperature reminds you that you are. They need more drinking water to be accessible while playing. All in all a beautiful layout, challenging, not unfair, a real putting test, plenty of greenside bunkers, fairways are wide open but lots of trees along each side will pull in errant drives like a magnet. Definitely recommend this track. I want to try it again in the fall or when temp is in the 70's.
What a beauty of a course
Played pine barrens last year while on hols played rollings oaks on 13 /5/14 I thought it was a fabulous course it had a tee box to suit every type of golfer can't wait to play it again
wide open and blast away
It is alway a wonderful day at World Woods. Best value for the dollar anywhere in the USA. Greens could be a bit quicker and that would be icing on the cake. The Oaks course is just a nice walk in the park with large challenging greens
Nice but slow
Played this based on the many stellar reviews. The course was in good shape and fun to play. Unfortunately, the pace was pretty slow throughout the game.
A few nice holes, but a lot of them are quite similar. Still a good value for the money through GolfNow deals, and worth playing if you're in the area.
We played both WW courses on the same day and both of us preferred the Rolling Oaks which plays a bit longer with less obstacles; this one has real sand traps which were fun to play.
Good as Usual
As usual, this course is a challenge with good reward. The front staff has been more friendly than the past visits. Outside staff still helpful and friendly. The only set backs of this round was being behind a couple that were very slow and a couple of bunkers that were muddy/water filled. Lastly, what happened to "repairing YOUR ball mark AND one more". Sad to see such a great course getting damaged by laziness and fools. These greens have enough break and undulation to not have to contend with fixing three to four ball marks on a line...I will keep coming back.
Great course, especially for $20
The course is amazing well worth the golfnow prices available. Greens had a few rough spots but overall the course was on point!
BURNED GREENS AVOID PLAYING UNTIL THEY FIX THEM
place has burned up greens from greenskepper mishap, they don't bother telling you that, you have to find out for yourself, and they charge you full price $80 if you don't get online to get discount even though justin in proshop will tell you come on down and we'll give you the deal/or shaft once you get there
Montelgolfer
BURnt GREENS /Course conditions Bad/ charged $80 to play not worth $40, that is what it is a florida course with bad green good layou hard bunkers not taken care off, a $25-30 course at best
One of the best in the Tampa Bay region
It is always difficult to grade one over the other when talking about these two outstanding courses. Currently the playing conditions of Rolling Oaks is superb, terrific fairways, sand bunkers (wished I had not visited) and greens, that had some very minor defects.
Play it again
This course is very scenic. Beautifully layed out golf holes. Extremely eye appealing. The fairways were in perfect shape, fast, true greens. Definately a must play!
Best course ever played in Florida
Perfect conditions, great scenery. Best value for money. Would recommend it to everybody
Worth the ride
Despite the lenthy ride from Maderia Beach rewarded with excellent day on very playable and mostly well groomed track...only drawback was condition of some traps and inconsistent quality of sand...not a real fan of rakes in the carts rather than in the bunker but that's a small issue...will definitely be back and make a day of it...like play 36...
Good Layout
I booked this tee time 1 week in advance and it ended up raining 5 inches the day before my tee time. Since the course was still very wet, I don't think the maintenance crew had gotten the chance to get out and recover from the storm. The greens were shaggy and slow. Since it was my first time playing the course, I would say that it did not live up to the hype but that is probably just because I didn't see the course in it's peak condition. I liked the design. Pretty wide fairways and tough approach shots.
Rolling Oaks
Course in nice condition. Greens are great but SLOW. Great time, I was able to play 32 holes even starting at 3:00 PM.
You choose the difficulty.
The tee boxes here are spaced so that you can choose a moderate difficulty all the way up to pro.
The greens were slower than usual. this, i think, due to a very large amount of rain rhe previous week. All in all, a great course
First Rate
Course is in great condition, in all aspects of game. It was a challenge and did not give up birdies easily. I would recommend this beautiful course to anyone.
