Lone Tree Golf Club

About
Located close to the San Tan Mountains, the course at the Lone Tree Golf Club offers not only a good game but also beautiful mountain views. This championship golf course was done in a traditional desert-style with rolling fairways and fast greens that are large and undulating. There are also several sand bunkers that protect both the fairways and the greens. Water hazards come into play on five holes and extensive mounding adds further challenge. The course features four sets of tee boxes to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. Lone Tree Golf Club boasts extensive practice facilities including a targeted grass range, a large putting green, and a short game area with a sand bunker.

Mid July round.
Course was punched and aerated. Expected conditions.
If you don’t know, greens are slow in the summer in Phx. Grass that grows then is just slower with less break.
Lone Tree is a favorite due to the track. Rangers are friendly and do what they can for pace of play. Some target golf with plenty of room to hit the driver. Greens are receptive and have subtle dimension.
One of my favorite courses in East Valley
Worth it
Its AZ, its Hot, fairways / green are punched all over the valley. But despite that, course held up, and is healthy. Greens are rough, but fun to play aggressive on. Staff is top notch, and will be back before the rate hike.
Same Old Lone Tree
Played this morning 7/25 early early am. Nice enough pro shop sent me off alone and early. Course looked green, and in decent/good shape, Not so fast, Greens had been punched and sanded with no notice on Golf Now and that is on me for not checking Lone Tree website as they have it posted and I would not of booked tee time. The course was soaked, punched on fairways as well and just recently done this week......could not putt the greens so I just took 2 putts and walked off. Played quick but I would not recommend this course for at least another 2-3 weeks if not longer, not worth the money.
5 somes
The course was in good condition for this time of year. We play hear about 8-10 times per year.
We were put behind a group of five. They were a full hole behind the group in front of them before the second hole. When the ranger came by, I asked about the 5 some. He said "they are keeping up." I pointed out the was almost two empty holes in front of them, and we were waiting every shot. It felt like he was more interested in defending his friends than actually listening or seeing what was in front of him. We noticed this was not the only group of 5 on the course. There were at least two other 5 somes. On the back nine, we saw a different marshal. I asked what was up. He said they don't all the time.
I can't believe a course would I intionally put out multiple groups of 5 on a weekend morning. The morning groups set the pace for the rest of the day! It's not like I can book a five some on golf now. Moreover, if you have a slow group, have the common courtesy to let the group behind play through.
After the second marshal stated they do this all the time, the only reasons I can think of are: 1) they are more concerned about pleasing their friends and wanna be members at a public course than providing a good experience for the average person. Or, 2) they are so desperate for a few extra green fees they are willing to sacrifice the experience for everybody else.
Either way, I would not recommend or plan to go back unlesss you are one of the good ole boys that live and play there all the time.
Early tee time made the round tolerable. Course is in good shape. The driving range should look really nice when the grass is fully grown. Appreciate the facilities and cold water fountain.
Greens were great
Always enjoy this course and the layout. Greens were in fantastic condition. Played in less than 4 hours. I will be back!
I like the course a lot, play there often
a couple of the fairways are in tough shape. overall it's good.
Good Course
Course Review:
I've played this course before and was glad to come back—especially with a great deal from GolfNow. The greens were watered and receptive, which was a nice change from Longbow, where it's hard to get anything to hold. My shots actually checked up the way they’re supposed to, which was a plus.
However, it seemed the watering also soaked the bunkers. I’m from Oregon, and I’m familiar with what happens when sand gets wet—bunkers can become nearly unplayable. That was the case here. My 62° low-bounce wedge bounced off the hard sand instead of digging, and it cost me a couple of strokes. It’s tough to control the ball in those conditions.
The range was closed, which was a little disappointing, but the putting green was open and rolling smooth at about a 9–10 on the stimp.
Overall, a solid course with good greens—just be prepared for firm bunkers if they’ve recently watered.
