Great all around course, staff not so much
The course itself was great, but the staff not so much.
A friend and I decided to hit the course for my bday, he was visiting from out of town and didn't bring his clubs. We were told on the course, after we had both already paid, that we both couldn't share my set of clubs. And to top it off , our Golf cart ran out of juice.
Again, the course itself is great...but the staff not so much.
Unclean, unsafe and short.
I have stayed in LAX many times and this was the first time I played this course and probably the last. Course was dirty, dirt, birds stuff and feathers all over. Fairways not maintained well and greens seems to be getting lot of play. If you have no other choice and this was the last resort then play. I shot + 6 for the round from back tees the course was too short.
Good Day
I had not played here in a while. I got a great Hot Deal. My round was done in 3.5 hours, and the course was in surprisingly good condition. Got a great tip from a playing partner that solved my driving issues. It was a good day.
Too dark
Nice course. The lights are not bright enough to enjoy a round of night golf. Gave up after a while.
2nd time playing the course
The first time I had a 10:30am tee time on a Saturday. The experience was not good at all. They were backed up 20 mins on tee start times and game pace was super slow. The complete course it took 4 hourse 15 mins.
So on this second visit I found $20 deal on Golf Now and decided to give a second chance. Except this time I had a tee time at 7:50 am on a Friday. The whole experience was great with a much better pace. It only took like 3 hours to complete the course which was great.
I dis not rate the food and beverage because I did not make any purchases either time I played at this course.
Quick round near LAX
Enjoyed this quick round, 2 hours, near LAX while waiting for my son to fly in! Only problem was the standing water on the course due to rainfall from previous day! I would reccomend it and will likely play it again!
Slow pace / bad value
Group in front was waking and we had carts. They didn't let us pass all day despite the fact we were right behind them every hole. No course manager to help speed up play or cart lady to provide beers while we waited.
Flat Course Great Greens
Love this course. Great place to work on your short game and wedge approach shots.
Great staff, good course
Pro shop staff excellent. Fairways and greens were nice. Pace of play was better than most OC courses. Only improvements suggested are the tee box conditions and snack bar staff.
great value
Been coming to Westchester for years. The last three holes I look forward to everytime.. I start very early as three pace of play is long..minimum 4 hour round if I'm lucky. Overall great course. Will be back for sure.
Slow Play
Helmet Golf. This course is slow, and full of hacks yelling FOUR! 5 hour round in a cart on a par 64/ 4364 yards is absolutely ridiculous. Plus, all the tee boxes are overgrown and full of giant divots. Poor management.
short fun course
Played Westchester on a Friday afternoon. finished 18 holes walking in under 4hrs. Great course to walk because it is short. Only one par 5. I personally think this course is great for 20ish dollars and they have lights that kick on once it gets dark in case you need more time to finish. my only complaint is that some of the tee boxes need the grass to be cut shorter. would recommend to a friend and definitely would play again.
Good for a quick round during the week...
I play this course at least 3-4 times a month, I live very close to it. Condition is not good, but if you play during the week, you can get done in 3 hours tops, which is always good for a quick round...Fairways in not good condition, greens a bit better... Don't get me wrong though, if you are from Florida, you wouldn't walk your dog on this track:)... Range is very good, although the putting and chipping section is almost ALWAYS closed!! Why, GOD only knows....
Westchester
I paid via GolfNow....for the first time using this service I was charged the full price for the cart. The regular daily fee for Saturday is $30.50....I paid $26.50 so my grand saving was $4.00......I played the course for many years when I lived in the area so I should have known about the shabby conditions and the make all the money I can syndrome......I would not recommend this dog track to anyone....
I love Westchester.
Love to play here. The staff is very nice, specially Howard and the Assistant Manager Sean.
Layout is easy/moderate but makes you think because of the wind.
Pros- Driving range, practice area, greens fee not overpriced nor cheap, well kept, night lights, Staff
Cons- 5somes, Pace can get slow sometimes, golfers with no etiquette at all, lack of a more present Marshal.
Gets the job done
Westchester gets an automatic adjustment up for rating because it provides a reasonably attainably decent golf experience within one of the most absurdly busy and expensive places in the world. LA has its muni courses but you more often than not must be prepared to fight the crowds and race the sunlight. Without the dough to settle into a country club, golf in LA is not impossible but tougher to enjoy than in less crowded cities. Westchester can be discouragingly crowded and slow at times but it has also yielded full rounds in 2 hours.
I'll give another plus for the fact that the layout and challenge beats your typical pitch n putt/executive course and the lights allow for some accommodation for the hectic schedules of us Angele. I can not get much golf elsewhere on week nights given my 6 pm quitting time.
If you like watching planes in action then you will like the backdrop. If you are annoyed by the sound of airplanes you will not want to play this course.
Overall westchester is a decent place to keep your game tuned up and have some fun. LA is better for having it.
No Alert of Gren Condition
Course was in farily good shape however there was no warning of greens being aerated. It would be best if only half of green were done at a time so that pin placemants would be n smooth area.
Wasn't informed on punched greens
Very disappointed in Golfnow and the course for not disclosing punched greens. Calling off work to play a course you can not even score is a huge letdown.
Fast neat average friendly good good
:) good course to play for an executive course. Some good par threes. Right next to LAX so it is fun to see the planes taking off and landing.
Easy but not a pitch n putt
If you really hate losing those expensive balls by play Westchester. I am about 12 HCP and I generally play one ball throughout the round at westchester. Where as I go thru about 2 or 3 at a course like Knollwood. Westchester has a great driving range with the exception of having to hit off mats. Better than a par 3 cause this course still allows a golfer to hit all those clubs in his bag. There's a few legit par 4s and even one par 5. But you get all this with out the added difficulty that usually comes with a regulation par 70-72. Only one pond at Westchester and most of the OB doesn't come into play as there is always a bail out option. At $14 per round (the golfnow hot deal m-f) and with $10 carts, the value is amazing. Usually get the round in about 3.5 hrs and the staff often let's u tee off early if you're ready to play. The cons-giant planes always taking off and landing at LAX right next door makes a lot of noise, the course layout is a bit tight and due to the lack of difficulty you'll have to endure some incoming novice stray bombs and hear the FORE call every time you play. Plus it's always windy and the wind takes distance off your shots on 16/18 holes. Only holes 13&15 are with the wind.
