Rams Hill Golf Club
About
Located at the heart of the immense Anza Borrego State Park, Rams Hill Golf Club sits perched on a hillside overlooking the desert floor. Tom Fazio designed the course, fully utilizing the existing features of the terrain from the natural slopes and undulations to the many lakes and streams. The layout features rolling fairways and elevated greens framed by carefully sculpted bunkers. Each hole has a different character, as well as a different set of challenges, thanks to the natural elevation changes. The final hole is considered a classic Fazio finishing hole and one of the most memorable on the golf course. This par 5 begins with a downhill tee shot to a wide fairway that slopes towards a large lake on the right, then you'll face an uphill third shot to a green protected by an array of threatening bunkers and a large waterfall.

Spectacular Conditions
I made the nearly three hour drive to Borrego Springs, because I had heard that this course was in perfect shape. I wasn't disappointed. Everything was just like a PGA event on television. Tee boxes, fairways, rough, and bunkers were immaculate. The greens were firm, fast and smooth. The layout was fun (not too hard) with room to drive the ball and two or three short par fours that could be drivable, depending on which tees one chooses to play. Customer service was top notch and the pace of play was brisk. I would play here often if it wasn't so far from home.
PGA conditioning
The course plays a little harder than the normal resort course because the greens are hard and fast like the PGA. But there are lots of tee boxes and you can make it as easy as you want.
Wow, Just wow
I have played here often years ago when i still lived in julian and the course was under previous ownership....was thrilled to see it re-opened and drove from Oceanside to make a day of it.
Absolutely FANTASTIC condition......perfect in every way....got a great rate on golf now and we headed up.
We usually play JC courses and golf club of california and such but this is what all the others wish they were.
Visually stunning, perfect fairway lies, bunkers with actual sand and greens that are exceptionally true(but really fast).
I will go back often, and recommend to all
Worth the long car drive
About 2 hours from the palm Desert area over bumpy roads, but once you play this very nice course, you forget about everything else.
Rams Hill evaluation
Rams Hill were the best conditions I ever played. and I've played,, pebble beach and the plantation Course, in Hawaii the greens were like carpet,,, the fairways are nice and green. with no bad spots. the fairways are nice and wide for average players. and the bunkers are nice and wide for better players. overall anyone would like this Course
Course Review
Its a golf course worth the drive. Every thing about it is great. Its challenging, well maintain, fresh and so green, great design of the fairways, bunkers and greens. Go there with family, friends or by your self, trust me you will love it.
Pace of play
The coarse was in excellent condition. The problem they have at this coarse is members are allowed to have there own carts and they just start playing wherever and the clubhouse does not know this. We got behind a five some and would not let us play threw. The pro shop staff was friendly and apologetic about the situation
Wow! Who knew there was such a great course way out here?
Fabulous round! The new owners have clearly invested a lot to create one of the best courses in Southern California. Amazing views of the Anzo-Borrego desert and surrounding mountains. Actually played the course twice this week. Experience and knowledge gained from the first round definitely shaped play in the second round.
Greens run fast but true. The holes require a strategic approach and careful shot making. Challenging but rewarding. The 18th hole par 5 is clearly the signature hole: good risk, reward opportunity if you want to make the green in two (good luck!). It plays back to the clubhouse with water on your right and a picturesque waterfall feature right of the green.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Food at the clubhouse was good. Enjoyed a beer and lunch on the patio overlooking the valley following the round.
Terrific experience. We will be back again, for sure.
excellent
This course is the best maintained I have ever played-the greens tees fairways were all perfect , plus the course is beautiful. Not many courses are worth a two hour drive, but this one is
Amazing course in remote area
On par with the most exclusive private courses in the desert. The course is maintained to and above pro tournament standards. Pretty wide fairways, but the challenge definitely comes with the greens. They are fast, tricky and not receptive of the ball. This makes it tough to score well. Great course. Highly recommend playing it, while it's still around.
Immaculately groomed along with spectacular views
The course is about an hour and 10 minutes from Indio in the middle of nowhere, however once there, you are treated to a beautifully maintained course in a majestic setting with tremendous sights. The course is interesting and challenging for the intermediate to somewhat advanced golfer. The facilities are still a work n progress and the restaurant didn't open till 11:00. A big disconnect between the golf course and Golf Now on the tee time. We were actually scheduled to be on the course 20 minutes before our official tee time (and only had less than 10 minutes for a warm up). Pro shop wouldn't guarantee a later tee off time and blamed the confusion on Golf Now. Otherwise, at $75 it was very good value and a great golfing experience. Will be much better once the facilities are completed (Patio, etc.).
Best Course I've Ever Played!!!!!!!
I'm from Buffalo, NY and come out to San Diego every year to vacation and get away from the cold. Played a fair amount of courses in the San Diego area over the past 3 years. Ram's Hill is unbelievable!!!!!! Pulled into the parking lot, a guy drove our cart out to us and greeted us. Walked into the pro shop to check in. The woman at the pro shop was super friendly and offered us free muffin's and coffee before our round as well as free tee's and ball markers. Carts came with free bottles of water and ice.
Starter made a comet to us...""You will never play on grass this nice in southern California, I hope I see you when your done with the ninth hole and swing by the pro shop so I can see how you like it so far" . Wow, that guy wasn't kidding. I found myself on a few occasions, reaching down to pull on a few blades of grass to see if it was real!!!! Perfect conditions, hardly any divot marks on tee box or fairways. Stunning vistas everywhere you look. Course had a lot of water and ponds for being in the desert. Lots of sand bunkers to challenge you and think about shot selection. Fast greens. After 11:00am, rate drops from $150.00 to $75. Pricey for my taste but, it was well worth it. Do yourself a favor and give this course a try, you will be very happy you did!!!!! What a treat!!!!!
best course in so cal. make a point for this to be your next stop. absolutely amazing!!!
best course in so cal. make a point for this to be your next stop. Absolutely amazing!!
ramshills-best course in socal
I have played almost every course in sandiego and play all from the black tees. I have a 5.7 handicap and this course put it to the test. EXCELLENT CONDITIONS!! easily the nicest course i have ever played. About 1hr45min from my doorstep in n.county to the course. Make it a day trip and dont miss this awesome treat. Beautiful gem brought back to life. I will be back regularly. Twilight rate of $75
Phenomenal Course
Really excellent course and lives up to the Fazio-designed expectations. You will not find better course conditions and the greens are just unbelievably spectacular. The course is not overly difficult and is definitely a bit "resort-y" with generous fairways and landing zones, but well worth the drive and green fees. And unless you count the palm trees in the distance on some abandoned holes, there are no remnants of the old Ted Robinson design. Highly recommended, though it's quite a haul from most places.
Hidden gem a must play
This is a course everyone should play. It was in pristine condition from start to finish very quiet friendly staff food and service was excellent. I will return
Perfect
Perfect is the best way to describe this course. I've played a lot of top notch courses and the conditions of this course is near the top. Greens were running at 11.3 and were just immaculate. Fairways, rough and tee boxes couldn't be any better. The layout itself was very fun and challenging at the same time. I would definitely recommend the drive out there to play this gem, especially at the Golfnow rate of $75.
Great Course - Wayyyyy Out There
If this course was anywhere closer to San Diego it would be demanding hundreds of dollars to play. Fortunately we got out for $75 a pop. Immaculate conditioning, polite and attentive staff- there is nothing more you can ask for in a golf club... except maybe that they dig it up and move it a couple hours closer.
Desert paradise
If you like quick true rolling greens, perfect lies if you don't hit it in the desert and fantastic long views of close loaning mountains from every hole give Ram's Hill a try. A fun course that will yield good scores to players who think their way around the course.
The New Rams Hill!
An absolutely beautiful course in a gorgeous setting with an efficient and friendly staff. The wind was the only drawback during our play....it came up mid afternoon. It made it difficult to finish our round.
Cannot wait to go back and play during the winter.

As the owner of Rams Hill I can sympathize with slow play and inconsiderate golfers. In the future please give the pro shop a call and they will send a marshal to the speed up play, or allow the faster players to play through.
