Crescent Pointe Golf Club
About
Crescent Pointe Golf Club in Bluffton is Arnold Palmer's only public course in the area. It is conveniently located just a few minutes west of the bridge leaving Hilton Head Island. Opened in 2000, the course has quickly gained a reputation as being one of the Lowcountry's best. Sprawling across a lush landscape blanketed with century-old oaks and towering pines, the layout is as scenic as it is challenging. While the generous fairways may be player friendly, the difficult approaches to the elevated, well bunkered greens are anything but. The large, pristine white sand bunkers were designed in true Palmer-style, closely following the natural undulations of the land. The gently rolling terrain is unique for the area. Crescent Pointe Golf Club's elevation changes aren't dramatic but they do provide some subtle, but tricky undulations in the greens that make it hard to find a flat lie.

Great Value
Meets the high standards of coastal SC golf courses at a reasonable price.
Intriguing layout. Punishing for errors. Thrilling for not. They type that makes you think allot about how you would play it differently next time.
Staff is professional, courteous and volunteers everything you need to know.
Cresent Point Golf Course is a good layout
November 8, 2024 is the first and only time I played this course. A lot of local knowledge is necessary on this course. I would recomend this course to a friend subject to bugs and weather and expectations.
Prior to playing I spent about an one and a half hour on the driving range working on ball contact, putting and bunker play. The practice range for irons and metals is ok. Balls for practicing are $8/ bag (approx. 35 balls) The practice putting green was in very poor condition. (Lots of bare ground and ponding). The practice bunker / chipping green was also in poor condition (Lack of sand in bunker and chipping green was like a high mowed fairway) As I discovered the practice facilities did emulate many of the conditions on the golf course, so I guess practicing what you will be playing on makes sense.
There are several blind fairway water hazards that cannot be seen from the tee boxes that cross the fairways. The greens were very slow and somewhat bumpy. Due to weather conditions it was very difficult to read the green grain, and there was limited ball roll due to wet fairways (sometimes plugging). Fairways were defined by Bermuda Grass rough about 3" deep or swamp and many sand bunkers had shallow sand and/or hardpan.
The riding golf carts were nice and did have computer screens which assisted somewhat however the graphics on the screen did not relate to understanding how far hazards, bunkers, green sizes, ball carries over obsticles, or dogleg clearances were.
There were several tee boxes available. They include: Champion Chip (gold) , Palmer (Navy Blue),Member (White), and Club (Green) markers.
I played the Palmer tees at 6447 yds. (with the limited roll the course played long for me at 74 years.)
I am used to Poa and Bent Greens and fairways. It was a real challenge for me.
The "No See Ums" (Small bugs that bite any bare skin) were very plentiful. It had just rained, and the course required cart paths only. The result was a lot of walking. I did not have any bug repellent, so it was a very undesirable situation. I had my fill of protein from what I breathed in.
I had an opportunity to play the next day, however I was so covered with bites, welts and bug bite blisters, I decided it was not worth it.
I will be returning in the future however I must be very aware of weather conditions and find out under what situations causes the infestation of "no see ums" and when they will be dormant if possible.
Now that I have a better idea of the layout and yardages / carries etc, I am sure I will have a more enjoyable time.
Beautiful
The course is in great condition, & a bit of a challenge for mediocre players, but fun & beautiful.
Great suprise
Playing Hilton Head and off island courses this was one of our favorites .
Challenging but not over the top. Had a great time here from arrival to the 19th hole.
Better condition
Course conditions have improved greatly since last year.
A good course for the money
The course was well maintained and very playable. I enjoyed it and compared to other courses near it, a good bargain.
Improved
The course has shown much improvement since we played in 2023.
Fairways need some grass
This is not an easy course made even more difficult by lack of grass in the fairways. We had the first tee time and were making great time. When we made the turn, there was a 4-some in front of us. They were probably members. They did let us play through, but very uncool they were allowed to cut in front.
Friendly tees, tuff approaches
Play was slow once we caught up to players out front. No refreshments cart. No one tending the bar at our turn. Enjoyed the course though.
Great Course Layout, Poor Course Conditions
Crescent Pointe was recommended to me by a relative who played there about a month ago and found it in good shape. However, there were a number of holes when I played that were in need of repair, or had repairs underway. Cart paths, in particular, were rough! Several greens were molted (some being repaired), sand traps were packed near solid, and two fairways had substantial sinkholes on them. The layout is very nice, and course was tough for a duffer like me, but the conditions didn't help. I'd go back, but only at a good price.
Friendly staff but severely understaffed
Poor staffing choices impact overall day, when check in takes forever and should have been staffed by two staff members, to the staff worrying about having enough golf carts, to the bar restaurant being at least three people short all impacted course play. We would go back if they improve staffing shortages, a manager should have stepped up and assisted as they were very busy.
