Crescent Pointe's staff consistently earns high praise for their warmth and genuine commitment to making every round memorable. The challenging layout featuring marsh hazards and fast, true-rolling greens delivers strong value in the Bluffton area.

Crescent Pointe Golf Club in Bluffton is Arnold Palmer's only public course in the area. It is conveniently located just a few minutes west of the bridge leaving Hilton Head Island. Opened in 2000, the course has quickly gained a reputation as being one of the Lowcountry's best. Sprawling across a lush landscape blanketed with century-old oaks and towering pines, the layout is as scenic as it is challenging. While the generous fairways may be player friendly, the difficult approaches to the elevated, well bunkered greens are anything but. The large, pristine white sand bunkers were designed in true Palmer-style, closely following the natural undulations of the land. The gently rolling terrain is unique for the area. Crescent Pointe Golf Club's elevation changes aren't dramatic but they do provide some subtle, but tricky undulations in the greens that make it hard to find a flat lie.

Not worth your time..better courses in the area.

Got a good golf now HOT DEAL, but the course conditions made the round not worth the money/time. There are many tee boxes that are 'Under Repair' throwing off the distances & the fairways are only basically acceptable. Also the bridge between hole 9 & 10 is under repair so you have to take a 'Tour de Ville' to get to the 10th tee box (about a 10 minute cart drive).

We played Eagle Pointe which is close by & it's in Much Better condition & at the same price. Both Eagle & Crescent are in the process of being improved, but Crescent still needs much more work than Eagle so maybe in a couple of years from now this course will be back to a course that is worth your time to play.

Coming Back

I had heard that the course had gone through some hard times, and had become run down. It was sold and the new owners are improving it. I actually liked the course when I played it. There were a few bad spots and the cart paths have to be fixed, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it in good shape in general. The cost was good compared to other courses nearby. People were pleasant and pace was good considering the number of hazards on the course. I enjoyed it.

Beautiful layout but poor conditions

The course is beautifully designed and has a great layout. Unfortunately we found several of the fairways were in pretty tough shape. Talk to a couple of members who said the new owners are putting money into the place and they're expecting to see improvements next year.

Don't waste your $$ or time

We got a good "Hot Deal" on Golf Pass but quickly found out why. This course probably shouldn't be open for play at this time, the tee boxes are dirt as were most of the fairways, very little grass! I didn't read reviews of the course before we played and I regret not looking into it. You can tell the bones of the course are solid but it needs LOTS of TLC

Good layout poor condition and worse management

Knew there had just been a change of ownership and knew conditions would be bad but still liked the layout from past round 4 yrs ago. Had 11:48 time. No starter, or staff of any kind sending players out. At 11:50 I ask the people in front of us their tee times. They said 11:35 and 11:44. So two tee times 4 minutes apart. Plus the group were in no hurry to head out to the first tee until I stated they should go, then they went out as a fivesomes (all men) with 4 of the wives following. Two of the wives had not golfed this year ( we are in Nov.). Would not let anyone played through as the 2 groups wanted to stay together. There was no Marshall. After a 3 hour front nine we quit and I spoke to a manager who apologized and indicated they just took over the course but that was no excuse for no starter or Marshall. He offered to refund our money but couldn’t as it was a prepaid hot deal. All in all one of the worse golf experiences I have encountered in the 50 years I have golfed.

Poor management

Course was under repair in many locations. Very poor management. No starters or Marshall’s and took us over 4 hours to play nine holes. Large groups playing together (10) backing everyone up also individual with coach playing in front of us and would stay on green practicing chipping and putting while we waited. Also would hit multiple balls off tee. Left after 9 holes.

Crescent Pointe 11-09-23

Played as a single at 1pm. The new owners know what they are doing. The new pro was actually out riding the course, taking notes, and talking to guests. Ran into some locals/residents who were super cool and friendly. Cart paths repaired and smooth. Over seeded greens a little slow but nothing major. Mowing is consistent with clean lines.. Major bunker work is underway and will continue through the winter. CP will be outstanding after one more growing season. Great value at $50. Jocelyn and Sadie in the shop were super nice. Steve outside is a great guy. I’d give it 10 stars if I could. Highly recommend.

Conditioning / Pace of Play

4 minutes between tee times is a horrible idea. (Booked 11:16 and 11:24 assuming they were back to back - but there was an 11:20 between us.) Pace was slow. Many groups left the course. Conditioning of tees was horrible. More sand than grass on many of them. Greens were rough - but some have been repaired (sod) so will likely grow in. They appear to be working on the course - so will likely get better - but needs some time.

Good value for the money. Definitely, not resort price. Tee boxes, for the most part, devoid of grass. Paved cart paths remain in shambles. All that being said, we would play it again. It is a very difficult, challenging course.

Avoid

Played there last week thinking it would be a half decent course since it is an AP. Well the tee boxes have no grass green are super slow patches cut into them. The front of the greens have track marks from the machines. Totally disappointed. I would recommend Rose Hill over this course for the value.

The Resurrection of Crescent Pointe Golf Club

Metropolitan Golf Group – located in Monroe Township, NJ - is well on the way to making a name for themselves in the Hilton Head Island area of South Carolina. In April 2023, MGG paid cash for Crescent Pointe Golf Club in Bluffton, SC, the only Arnold Palmer-designed publicly accessible golf course in the area. In September, they added the Davis Love III-designed Eagle’s Pointe Golf Club - also in Bluffton – to their portfolio.

<p>

Crescent Pointe originally opened for play in 2000 and quickly gained a reputation as one of the “Lowcountry’s best layouts.” In 2010 the Lowcountry Golf Course Owners Association named Crescent Pointe its 2010 Golf Course of the Year.

The course weaves its way around strands of towering pines, magnolias, and ancient oak trees. Wetlands and lakes enter the picture on several holes and need to be navigated as you make your way to Palmer’s large, well-undulated greens where slopes and breaks tend to be on the subtle side. There are several forced carries over water but, if you’re playing from the right tees, they shouldn’t be a problem.

This highly playable, strategic design rewards good shots but doesn’t over-penalize poor hits. You’ll find generous fairways, large, elevated greens, and a variety of bunkers. Palmer tended to build bunkers in areas where grass was hard to grow. This leads to large waste bunkers that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also define landing areas and can be somewhat penal in nature. You’ll find beach bunkers on three holes at Crescent Pointe with sand that stretches to the edge of the lagoon. The majority of bunkers have been designed in true Palmer style and follow the natural undulation of the land very closely.

Crescent Pointe also features something unique to the area: rolling terrain with noticeable elevation changes; an element that is missing from many Lowcountry layouts. Several holes play along the Colleton River with expansive marsh views.

Crescent Pointe offers golfers six sets of tees. The back (Palmer) tees play 6,773 yards with a course rating of 72.9 and a slope of 137. Move up to the White Tees (6,003/68.5/125) and you just might be able to keep a little dignity. For those who prefer the forward tees, you can choose from yardages of, 5,533, 5,005, and 4,126 yards. There truly is something for every level of golfer.

As you might expect, the course has a number of memorable holes. Number 2 is a 152-yard par 3 that is all carry. There's a bunker short of the green and another in the back with a rock-walled pond guarding the entire right side. This hole is reminiscent of Number 17 at Bay Hill in Orlando. Bailout left of the green and you may find yourself hitting a chip shot from among the grass mounds.

The 6th hole is a risk/reward par 5 that plays 465 yards from the White tees. It’s a dogleg right around water, in fact, to get to the green, you’ll need to play over the water at some point. A good drive will leave a decision to either lay up short of the water or try and make it onto the island green. Beware of the large bunker left of the fairway should you choose to lay up. Apart from the water that surrounds the green, there are bunkers on either side.

Number 10 at Crescent Pointe is a fun par 4 that plays 387 yards and places an emphasis on accuracy off the tee. It’s a slight dogleg left with 5 bunkers in the landing area on either side of the fairway. Water comes into play on the right with more sand guarding the front right and entire left side. Anything left of the cart path will be in the trees and anything long can easily find the water.

The 11th hole is an interesting par 5 that plays 494 yards from the White Tees. Longball hitters need to be aware of the water that crosses the fairway in the landing area. Favor the left side of the fairway on your layup shot and hit something just short of the trio of bunkers. Success thus far will leave a short chip shot into a triangular green with two bunkers on the right side. Anything right of the cart path on this hole will again find the trees.

Eighteen presents a challenging way to end your round and has the distinction of being the only hole at Crescent Pointe that has no water hazards. The hole plays 387 yards from the White Tees and features large waste bunkers on either side of the fairway up to the dogleg. A good drive that carries the right-side bunker and cuts the corner will leave a mid-iron approach shot into a long, narrow green. A large bunker guards the left side and wetlands guard the right, so the emphasis is on accuracy once again.

Before your round, warm up on Crescent Pointe’s full-length driving range, where you can hit every club in the bag. You’ll want to because odds are you’ll use every one of them. There’s also a nice short game area and practice putting green.

When you head to the pro shop to check in, take a few moments and look over the great selection of golf equipment and logoed golf apparel Crescent Pointe has to offer. You’ll also find a wide assortment of polos, gloves, hats, shorts, and socks for both men and women. Remember, if you can’t dazzle them with your game, you might as well look the part!

The best way to take advantage of everything Crescent Pointe Golf Club has to offer is to become a member. You’ll have full access to the practice facility, dining room, and golf course, and be able to spend quality time with your family as you develop new friendships. Memberships are available for individuals, families, and corporations.

Metropolitan Golf is well on the way to returning Crescent Pointe to its original glory. I’m confident they will do the same thing with Eagle’s Pointe in the near future. For more information or to book your next round, give them a call at (843) 706-2600 or visit them online at www.crescentpointegc.com. They’re just a short, 3-mile detour from the bridge to Hilton Head Island!
