Carved from a forest of pines and winding through wetlands and lagoons, St. Johns Golf & Country Club offers a scenic 18-hole round located between St. Augustine and Jacksonville. The course features tree-lined fairways and large, fast greens. There is also the occasional two-tiered green to look out for. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are several well-placed bunkers. Depending on how the wind is blowing, the course can range from being gentle to very demanding. Six sets of tees make the course accessible to players of all skill levels. In addition to the course, St. Johns Golf & Country Club also offers extensive practice facilities including a 10,000 sq. foot putting green, chipping green, and a double-sided driving range.

Great layout terrible greens

The staff is very friendly, Raymond the starter a joy to talk with. Said they were preparing to re-do the greens in May. Easily see on the first hole why the greens need to be replaced. Holes cut out of some greens to patch other greens. Several different type of grasses on the green no consistency. Yes they were recently punched and sanded but I’m not basing the poor greens on that.

Play another course

Greens were aerated, lots of invasive grass on the greens, fairways have been mowed down so the overall course condition is very poor. Do not waste your time and money here. This might be a playable course in a couple of months.

Give it a couple weeks

Greens looked like they had been aerated in the last couple weeks. Not terribly bumpy, but every single green (I'm talking all 18) had patches of grass that did not belong. Definitely affects how the greens roll. The fairways must have also been recently punched as well, but played fine. Tee boxes and bunkers were all great. Seems like in a couple more weeks everything should be in much better shape.

Course under repair - Stay away for now

I moved to FL 4 years ago and this course has always been a go-to for a great round on a nice layout with usually very good conditions. HOWEVER...they had some issues this year with some patchy grass getting onto their greens. And they are now battling that grass and trying to get their smooth fast greens back. It will take a while.

The day I played they had just punched the back nine the day before and were punching the front nine that day. So I paid for 18 in advance on golfnow and when I get to the course, they inform me of this and tell me I have to play the back nine twice.

The course (greens mostly) was almost unplayable. The fairways were also aerified/cut and were pretty burnt out, and the rough on most holes had not been mowed for a WHILE.

Needless to say...I will not be back for a few months while they try to get the course back in shape.

Good course

Overall it’s a beautiful club and course . Greens need work and grass could be shorter. Rain a lot before so a lot of cartpath only par 5s made it tough. Nice Layout.

Always Consistent

My third time playing St. John's in 2024 and each time it has been consistently really good. Tee boxes are not all beat up like Julington Creek. Fairways are green and clean unlike Hidden Hills. Greens are challenging and roll true and not hairy like Cimarrone. The hole layouts are unique and difficult unlike the staleness at South Hampton.

I've played 25-30 rounds of golf in Jacksonville in 2024 on public courses and in my opinion Queens Harbor is the only public course that is slightly better than St. John's.

Better the second time

The first time I played, I was not overly impressed. On playing the second time, I changed my opinion.

Good conditions, good layout. Enjoyable round.
