Nice course in Atlanta suberb
Played the course and thought it was a buetifuel design. The course was ranked in Golf Digest top 100 public courses back in 2002. The course is only about 20 minutes north of Alpharetta in Dawsonville, and probably the best in Dawsonville with the exception of Achasta. The clubhouse was a masterpiece and Herons grille was a masterpiece. The buetifuel course design with the tree lined fairways was buetifuel.
The courses practice facilities I would have liked to seen a little better but stil the putting green was good and was like the course which I enjoyed. The driving range wasn't bad it's just the fact that I'm not much of a mats only fan. Like I touched earlier the trees where tree lined with deep rough and the fairways where absolutely buetifuel.
The carts where also very nice and liked the course and everything it had to offer.
Love the course
The course layout is challenging but very fair. Makes for an interesting round every time.
A must play!
Course was in great condition and greens were in great shape. Course knowledge is a key. It was there club championship the day we played so the greens were rolling fast and pin positions were challenging. The views were spectacular and made the round much more enjoyable. Definitely worth the ride from the ITP.
Great layout
Truly enjoy this course, the outstanding layout, complimentary range balls staff friendliness make this a fun course to play.
A North Georgia favorite
It's a bit of a drive but I like this course, very enjoyable. No 8 is one of hardest holes in the area.
Nice Course
Very nice course -- a bit long and narrow and definitely challenging. A few greens were struggling but overall course is in good shape for late summer with the heat we have had. Traps were a bit wet and hard -- but with the deluge we had yesterday that kept us from playing - the course had dried well today. We had feared it would be cart path only -- but the course drained well and was ready for today
Great layout
Always enjoy playing this course. Greens are somewhat stressed.
Greens in poor condition
A lot of dead areas on greens.
Burned Out Course - Play Somewhere Else!!
Drove up from Alpharetta to play today and the course was in horrific condition. We only paid $40 for an early afternoon tee time and it wasn't even worth that. Kind of a shame since this is a nice and somewhat challenging layout that demands you place the ball accurately. I'd say all but 2-3 greens are burned out and diseased, with patches torn out of them. It was like putting through a mine field on most greens. Fairways and tees are distressed and pretty burned up as well. They should do what Stone Mountain did a few years ago when their greens were diseased and nearly unplayable and offer a flat $25 rate. No way this course is worth paying $40+ in the condition it is in right now.
Only good thing about this round was the weather was excellent and the pace of play was only 3 1/2 hours for 18, probably because every one else knows about the condition and is staying away!
Time for a change
The greens are officially the worse in North East Georgia. I've played this course several times this year and the greens have consistently gotten worse. What is the superintendent doing? Yes I understand it has been hot and dry, but each time I've played, I never seen the superintendent working. Other employees were out on the course mowing and doing coursework. I spoke to the assistant who assured me and my group that he and the staff were working on the situation. He was very professional as we're the other workers. the tees, fairways and roughs were in very playable conditions. As for me, I won't be back until the greens are repaired. Maybe this course needs a change at the head position.
Chestatee Review
Course was in good shape. Couple greens were a little patchy..
Greens are shot
Beautiful course, but the greens have been ravaged by the drought. Right now the course does not merit the near $70 weekend greens fee. Would love to play it under good conditions sometime though.
Giving it another chance
Played the course 3 or 4 times over the last year and each time had issues with the tee boxes and sand. I knew that when I booked the round, but was still excited to play the course. It was worse than I could have imagined. Tee boxes and bunkers in bad conditions as usual, but also the greens were HORRIFIC sandy, patchy, aerated, etc. just awful. If you are casually playing I would not book a round here. the fairways and rough were nice and consistent, but until they are able to make some changes with the tee boxes, bunkers and greens I'll wait to play this entertaining layout.
Poor greens
Nice track, greens had some type of fungus.
Terrible greens
Greens are all but gone. Don't waste your money playing golf on greens that are basically dirt. It's obvious the golf course is not being maintained.
Greens need attention
I would of given this course 4 stars if it wasn't for the spotty greens. Looks like management is trying to revive them though. Aerification been done recently and they continuously being watered.
* The Worst Starter I have never seen...
I checked in - giving the receipt to the starter located at the # 1 tee just less than 10 min. before the tee time... The starter said : " I am not taking a receipt until the tee time ! " and he told me " Not to tee off..." He left # 1 tee and never come to the #1...
I waited 15-20 min. and asking the people at the pro shop, if I could tee off...
I do not pay to see "RUDE" starter. I finally teed off but played 3 hole and went home...
The " Rude" starter killed my day off...
I've seen this twice also. The rudest guy's ever that don't understand their jobs. I've had one guy start us, and then after we'd played a few holes come and stalk us with the same starter sheet asking us who we were and asking for receipts. When you're in your round and have already gone thru the rigamarole, it is a total "buzz kill."
Whoever runs this place needs to have a talky talk with the starters. Say "If someone is in a golf cart, the chances are about 100% they've paid to play - smile and say "enjoy your round" and then leave them the heck alone."
Fun course
Challenging and fun at the same time. My only complains would be that the greens were very soft and some of the bunkers were more mud than sand.
Not worth it
Started out with starter at first hole, he was yelling because we were 2 minutes late for 8:33 tee time, then insisting we hurry up and tee off Immediately, when we did not because the group in front of us was still in middle of fairway he was getting more upset, after teeing off and getting to our approach shots we had to wait for the green to clear the starter got more upset, course itself was in poor to below average condition, which can be explained or excused, but lack of knowledge and/or etiquette from on course staff cannot, no return trip for me thank you
Course Conditions Are Not Up to Par
This is my second round at Chesatee in approximately a month. This is a challenging, but fair layout. At this time the course conditions are well below ideal due to a combination of heat, limited watering coverage and low maintenance efforts. The grounds crew has done a good job of keeping the bent greens alive, but these greens are not smooth and putting is a challenge. Some bunkers are mostly clay. Other bunkers have moderately large gravel in the thin sand. In general, many of the bunkers need to be refreshed with properly graded sand.
There was no staff monitoring the pace of play or keeping the starting in order.
Château Élan Stay & Play Golf Package
Played today and the greens were hideous and diseased. Not worth $40 and the long drive up from Alpharetta. Course is a great layout, but the greens were horrible and the fairways/tees as burned out.
I completely agree with your comment. In talking to a few members, they all mentioned that the superintendent is rarely seen on the course. Sad that the owner lets the guy continue to be in charge
