Greens were aerated with no warning...
I have played here numerous times in the past and have always enjoyed it. The course has a great layout and some beautiful scenery. However based on our round yesterday, it looks like they are letting the course go downhill. There was a ton of areas all over the course that were just straight up dirt, and the Sandtrap's just seemed like it was pretty much dried out red clay that they've attempted to turn into sand.
However my biggest complaint is the fact that there was nothing on Golfnow nor the courses website to indicate that the greens had just been aerated, and they played absolutely terrible.
Very nice course...lots of fun
I was able to get a tee time on this course for 8:06 on a Friday morning for $18.50 out the door. If you see something like this, jump on it. The course is very nice. Greens were in decent condition and very slow. The slowness of the greens takes some getting used to. I picked up with three other guys, and they were all of varying skill levels, but we had a great time. Carts are in great shape. Highly recommend, particularly if you can get a deal.
Poor work from starter/ranger
My foursome started at the first tee with no one in front of us and teed off. Immediately, a twosome pulled up behind us. Starter was going to let them start behind us. We told them to play ahead of us and tee off which they did which is the right thing to do. They proceeded to score about a 10 each on the hole so my foursome who are good golfers had to wait for them to hit each one of their many shots. We finally finished the hole and as walking off, the starter comes down the hill and told us we had to speed up as there were three groups waiting We had 2 pars and 2 bogeyz. We played the hole in proper pace if it wasn't for the guys in front of us. Looking backwards, he had two more twosomes and a threesome. How about the management pair up twosomes and teach the starter how to manage the tee times properly and not get on people's cases that is not warranted?
In addition, course just aerated and there is not mention of it. Paying full cost for aerated greens with poor management absolutely ruined Father's Day for the four of us. Very unusual for this excellent course as I have been playing it since opening.
One of my favorite courses in the area
We played from the tips and really enjoyed the challenge. This course makes you use all your clubs, control your ball flight, & be in good positions.
Worth the Drive
I decided to finally make the trek to play Chestatee and I should have come a long time ago. The course is in great shape. The greens are smooth and roll as true as any golfer could hope, but none of them are flat so you've got to hit good putts on line if you want them close. There was not a great deal of rough on the course so it plays pretty fast all over and what little rough they have is thick but not so think that you lose your ball five feet off the fairway. There are some quirky holes mostly the par fives but it didn't take away from any part of the course. I have already recommended the course to several people and I will be back after the greens have recovered from aeration
worth the ride from Atlanta
Course is in great shape.
Good Track
Playing Chestatee was a pleasure. The course is moderately challenging with generous fairways, nice bent grass greens and some mountain scenery. Some of the fairways and bunkers need a bit of conditioning. This did not really distract from the round. The weather was hot so the bent green were a bit slow by necessity. The greens were well groomed and smooth.
Note on my review: I have played approximately 150 courses in Greater Atlanta area, along the Gulf coast from Panama City to New Orleans, the Central Midwest, and other U.S. and non-U.S locations. Courses with 5 star ratings are near perfect and may be on the Golf Digest top 100 courses. Very few public courses get a five star rating. Three and four stars generally get a play recommendation unless there is a specific problem. Two star courses work if you need a golf fix, but are not recommended.
Lots of elevation changes
A very nice course located in a development, houses are not too close. Several forced carries and uphill holes so be ready for them. If it's wet and only cart paths, the walking could be a challenge for some. Greens were fast and very consistent, extremely nice. Fairways were in great shape, short grass. Many tees so you can choose your length, not much rough as fairways go right into the woods which bound most holes on both sides. A great test of golf, nice practice area with range included in fee. Not a walking course, will definitely return.
Great course
We stated at 8:05 AM and finished playing our last round (number 3) at 7:15 PM, will worth the money and time.
Nearing Peak Conditions
Conditions.
Tees - Good
Fairways - a bit thin, but better than avg for May
Greens - Very good
Bunkers - Average
Considering the recent rain, it was CPO which normally makes for a longer round, but our 4some (varied from 80s to not breaking 100) got around in a 4 hrs on the button.
Layout...If you've never played here...the common theme is trouble is on the right. Typical hilly north GA terrain...elevation change adds to the difficulty. Greens are fairly large with a fair amount of undulation, so your iron play can help you save strokes...hard to get up and down on a short sided miss.
I wouldn't bring a beginner here, but there is ample room to land your tee ball on most driving holes...the bogey golfer and better will have fun on this course....we'll be back.
Great course, lay-out for the money
Bent grass greens. Worth the extra drive time to play it.
Beauty
Had a great round here. Very hard to walk. No wet spots anywhere and still cart path only. Hmmm. Great layout. GPS would really help this course.
Great
Really enjoyed the course. Only complaint is that the grass was very short everywhere. Don't know if they cut it short or it was from winter. Can't wait to go back once the grass grows some. Also I played the best round of my life so far!
Chestatee
Good condition. Fun course
had a great time
my first visit to this course. Well managed green and freindly staff!
Challenging but fair
Well worth the trip. This course offers a good variety of terrain and challenges. For first timers, be prepared to hit both tee shots and approach shots to obscure landing areas.
Loved this course
This was my first time playing this course and I was really impressed. I really enjoyed the layout and the variety of holes. It was December and the course was soaked but that didn't take away from my experience.
Cart path only
I've played this course many times but today wsd an anomaly. Course did not drain well from rain two days prior causing cart path only. This was not noted on golf now or communicated at all until check in. The muddy conditions made some holes score too high for weekend golfers. There wasn't a beverage cart because there wasn't hardly anyone at the course. It was a nice day for golf, but the course should have been closed or we should have been given half off.
One of my favorites
Really like this course. Great condition, like the practice areas.
