Stoneybrook West Golf Course
About
Designed by Arthur Hills Stoneybrook West is a roaming blend of gutsy, penal holes, picturesque par threes over water, reachable par fives (527 and 522 yards from the tips, then 578 and 605), and several short, sporty par fours that cover all corners of the site. Dramatically rolling fairways salted with Hills' trademark grass-faced bunkers, subtle elevation changes and undulating greens were all artfully carved out of native orange groves, overlooking Black Lake. Water comes into play on 12 holes; you'll find all 18 are distinctly different, challenging and memorable.
For those visiting the Orlando area, particularly the Disney World complex, Stoneybrook West is just a matter of minutes up the road to the north. For those who frequent the Orlando golf circuit, Stoneybrook West is a course that must be seen to be measured against the other name courses.

Golf Advisor: Top 25 Most Improved U.S. Golf Courses (2017 #18)
Reviews
Great gold day.
This was our first time playing here, the conditions were good, the Tee boxes were nice, fairways were well maintained, greens were great, they were very fast balled rooked true. Very disappointed with the cart girl, we seen her on the 5th hole and we ran inti post her on the 10th tee, after we asked her if we would see her again, and she committed YES!!! It was very hot and Muggy out.
As bad as reviews suggest
I really wanted to enjoy this round, especially knowing the history and layout of this course, but unfortunately, the recent negative reviews are spot on. While there are glimpses of what this course could be, the current management and course conditions make it impossible to recommend at this price point.
The Arrival & Logistics
We arrived at 11:30 AM to a bit of a chaotic scene. They had completely run out of buggies, and while the staff did their best to keep us informed, the atmosphere felt unorganized. We did eventually get a cart—which was actually in good condition—just a few minutes before our tee time, but it wasn't the relaxing start you want for a round of golf.
Course Conditions: A Tale of Two Courses
The Greens: Credit where it’s due—the greens are the saving grace here. They were in reasonable shape, played at a sensible speed, and rolled true. It's clear this is where the entire maintenance budget is going.
Tee Boxes & Fairways: This is where the "golf course" label starts to feel like a stretch. The fairways and tee boxes are a struggling mix of weeds and patchy grass. As other reviewers noted, it often feels like they are simply "mowing the weeds" rather than maintaining actual turf.
Bunkers: Practically unplayable. Most were compacted hard-pan or filled with small stones. If you find yourself in the sand, you’re more likely to damage a club than hit a clean splash shot.
Pace of Play & Management
The breaking point for us was the pace of play. We ended up walking off the course after only 6 holes because the bottleneck was so severe—there were three groups waiting on a single tee box.
When we mentioned the delay to the Pro Shop, the response was dismissive. We were told that five-hour rounds are "not unreasonable," which is a disappointing standard for any club to hold. Without a marshal on the course to manage the flow or address groups cutting in, the experience quickly turns from a hobby into a headache.
The Verdict
Stoneybrook West has a fantastic, interesting layout that deserves better than this. Until management addresses the drainage issues, replaces the weeds with actual grass, and takes pace of play seriously, your money is better spent elsewhere. A hard pass for now.
All they have to do is TRY!
The course is a good layout the people are nice enough but that doesn't make it a golf course. Golf courses have Grass. It’s borderline false advertising to call it golf when there isn’t grass on the fairways and rounding rough. Additionally, I believe there is a drainage problem on the course as it was soggy wet with no rain days before the tee time. If you want to golf go somewhere else
Crew is awesome, course needs time to heal but it's still a great track
This is a great course to test your risk or reward. Some holes are straight forward and easy while others are very risk reward. Some pin placements can make holes a lot more difficult and it's a fun one to test your skills. It's only been reopened for a few years and Rocky and his crew have done a great job getting it to where it is today. It still needs a few years to get to where he likely wants it but overall he and his staff are AMAZING people who are extremely friendly, love the game and treat people with kindness and respect. I couldn't recommend this course more for those who are in the area and want to play at a place that won't break the bank but also test your skills.
Not great..
Course is obviously mid renovation. Price point is not good for what it is. Pace of play was terrible. Called the pro shop to complain about a 4 some playing an average of 20-25 min per hole. The Gen Z kid who answered couldn’t have cared less. Lots of other places to play that wont take 5-5.5 hours a round and will play better than the $75 a guy we spent here. Hard pass.
WANT TO LOVE SBW!
I feel like Jimmy Neutron's dad ( from the cartoon) every time I play here. "CRABGRAAAASSSS!!!" Seriously, the crabgrass and clover patches are OUT OF CONTROL here. If you don't play pick and place here, you just like crashing out and throwing a club in the pond. You will want to. The greens are surprisingly good, even looking like the surface of the moon. I think the starter, and cart girls need to just literally THROW Divot tools at every player they see. That's how many unfixed green divots are on these otherwise fantastic greens. The layout is great. The course is challenging, but it would honestly be my favorite course if I wasn't having to move my ball off a giant weed root once a hole. There's also a big issues with either drainage, or the grounds team not deactivating sprinklers when it's raining alot. The grass will either look dry, or be dry on the top, and you take a divot that looks like WW1 trench mud, eating half your swing before you come to the ball. The staff is friendly. Prices are good. But PLEASE fix the turf issues. I would rather be told "hole XX is closed for a MONTH, skip it" and eventually be able to play a fantastic course in a year.
Continual Disappointment
I was excited a couple years ago when SBW reopened. Right around the corner from where I live, and always heard what a fun layout it had. After over two year and several round trying to be patient, today was my last round there. No starter to be found, waited around while someone found a cart. Never saw a ranger on the course. Which usually wouldn’t be a big deal, except when a family from the neighborhood came out of a yard a just cut in front of us on a hole. (Only played one hole) but had a young child and we waited 15 minutes in a tee for them to clear the hole. Stopped playing after 16 as it was three groups on the 17th hole. Again where is the marshal. And then there are the conditions. Greens are good, but that’s where it ends. Fairways are horrible, weeds and mud everywhere, and bunkers are just dirt. It’s a shame, course does have a decent layout but someone needs to pay attention.
Best Bang for your Buck !
Greens were meticulously kept, FAIRWAYS mowed regularly no big tickets of grass pile up all over, no potholes! Kudos to Brent in the clubhouse, very friendly, funny guy , nice to have someone with a little personality in the clubhouse. The only con.: the GPS system on the carts need to be adjusted cause it’ll cut out on you when you’re in a Fairway pasture type grass and it will not let you go through. Even though I’ve played the course probably a dozen times or more I still get caught and the cart quits so this needs to be adjusted. People aren’t gonna drive too close to your green but when the grass it can tolerate a cart then it needs to be adjusted accordingly. This review sent out by the EGA.(emergency golf association.)

Greens were smooth.
Course in much better condition than last year! Still some rougher areas but much improved.
Restaurant staff great!
Pro shop staff could be more engaging!
Overall a great day even with the rain and crazy wind!
Thank You.....
Poorly Managed!!!
Let me start with the positive…the greens are in great shape. That’s it!!! The rest of the course is in terrible shape. They are clearly not maintaining the course other than the greens. It’s obvious they invest all their maintenance budget on the greens. They’re simply “mowing the lawn” on all other areas of the course with absolutely no love and care. The bunkers were hard as concrete with compacted dirt versus sand. I’m a Stoneybrook West resident and play golf every week…I was embarrassed inviting my playing buddies to this course. What is going on?!!! The management company needs to be held accountable. This is sad!
New ownership has failed this once nice course
The course is in terrible condition except for the greens which were ok. New ownership has not made this what it once was.
Nice course
This course has a decent layout and is fun to play. It was extremely wet when we went but overall not that bad shape. Overall not bad for the amount paid at less than $40 per person.
