Trump National Doral Miami - Silver Fox Course
About
The Silver Fox Course (formerly known as Jim McLean Course) is one of five 18-hole courses at Trump National Doral Miami. The courses offer a good game for players of any skill level. Unlike the Gold Course at the resort, the Silver Fox Course does not follow a traditional Floridian layout. There are elevated tee boxes and greens and narrow, rolling fairways. The golf course features an interesting variety of holes, short and long. Water hazards come into play on 16 holes of the 18 holes and there are also bunkers situated throughout. The course's signature hole is the 14th, which has an island green.

Doral McClean course
No practice range which was a poor start. Course is strong and greens are excellent, very pure to putt on, however place looks slightly dated. Staff were helpful. overall a good experience.
Solid course, definitely challenging.
Picked up a hot deal for 30% off, so I wasn't too upset about the price, thanks to GolfNow. The McLean signature course was recommended as an alternative for me because I didn't want to spend $450 to play the Blue Monster, and it sufficed. Right off the first tee you can tell it is a tough course. The fast greens, water lining nearly every hole, and that dreaded island green on #14 made for a challenging, yet fun filled golf outing.
Staff was great and very friendly. HUGE props to my man Raul (course employee/player assistant) whom I came into contact with on my last three holes. Knows the course like the back of his hand, and was just a great dude to hold a conversation with while I waited on the foursome ahead of me to finish their shots. Trump International, please give Raul a raise haha!!
Okay
We had come from playing some good courses in the Naples where everything was special and all laid on. Honestly think that the price reflects the name Doral rather than the whole experience. The course is ok but the houses surrounding it don't reflect splendour or high quality. No range balls included in fact did not see a range. Pro shop small. Pace of play was excellent but rating is based on what we paid in another setting the course may sit better with me.
Doral McLean
Course is great. Awesome layout, greens are in fantastic shape. The fairways are little tight/hard pan. The only negative with the course is there is no driving range so I wasn't able to work the rust off before I hit the 1st hole. Overall, I had a fantastic time and would recommend the course to anyone. I look forward to playing it again.
A real treat
This is a long course if you play from the tips or even the 2nd tees...a couple par 4's played llike 5's depending on the wind direction. Greens were pristine and mildly undulated. It can be pricey to play here, but it was worth it!
Awesome Course!
Greens, fairway and bunkers were awesome!
The staff were super nice and helpful.
The pace of player was great.
Jim McLean Signature (Doral Silver) Course
There are not too many places in the U.S. With reliable golf weather in January, but Miami is one of them. As a result, I expect greens fees to be somewhat inflated this time of year. However, in my opinion, the Doral courses are way overpriced, especially this one. Pulling up to the course, one does not get the feeling of a fancy resort experience. The facilities are more like those of a medium-range municipal course. The pro shop is the size of a large closet and the restaurant did not open until 09:00--in other words, no coffee. Despite what many web sites say, there is no driving range.
The course itself was in decent shape and the greens were in very good shape. There are not too many memorable holes, maybe 1 or 2. It is a standard layout that winds through a classic south Florida neighborhood. The player crosses many city streets to get to the next tee and houses line at least one side of most fairways.
All in all, next time I would spend my $190 on 2 rounds at courses that don't have Doral in their name.
PLAYED WITH JIM MCLEAN WOW
Everything about this course is perfect as you would expect with Trump actually there, he said hello from a distance. The great Jim Mclean played 12 holes with us and gave us a 3 hour one on one lesson on the house. He changed my game forever in that time and have drooped 5 strokes and counting. Can never thank him enough. GREAT course, very hard, recommend playing it at least once, even at the high price.
Best quality value in miami
I've been to almost all courses in Miami - Crandon, Great White, Shula, Blue Monster, Palmetto, Biltmore, - and I finally found my go to course. For people who prefer not to go on a dog track, and have a nicer course, this was the best course for the money. Great quality and value. And a great and well maintained course.
This is Doral...
I've played the Great white 2 years ago and i was not disappointed. I tried Mclean this year and i only have good things to say about Doral. For a guy coming from the north like me, this place is just paradise.
See you soon Doral!
Bad course for much money
We were very disappointed : we played good couses in the area of naples with were cheaper and/or better.
The Jim Mc Lean Course has nothing to do with The Donald Trump courses - without the name. No driving range for $ 120, no real service: no ice water on the round, no one was cleaning the clubs....and no sheriff managed the speed of the game on the course.
World class golf at Doral
Had the privilege to play at Doral, the Jim McLean course. The Big Blue was closed due to construction and I couldn't get tee times at the others (Gold or Great White), but I have to tell you, the JM course was not a consolation prize. It's a championship track and I felt very underrated versus how the other Doral courses are described.
Plenty of trouble on the course, strategic bunkers and water and the infamous Bermuda Triangle was pretty amazing. The course begins with 3 par 4s that goes 470, 490, 490, in swirling Florida wind. Wow, you either start with a bang or will go down pretty hard before you even get to the 4th hole. We did ok to get by these three monsters with minimal damage.
The green fee was a great value and the staff was exceptional. I would go back to this course any time.
You get what you pay for.
Its expensive, but you get a great course and layout for the price. The greens rolled true and fast, the fairways were tight and the rough was manageable. A good course if you can find a good price.
Great value for a good course
The course was in very good condition and the amenities were first rate. The play was open and we finished the round in below average time.
Okay for what it is
Take one course with great potential, one giant ego and you get a course originally designed to be challenging to all players at all levels into a course designed solely for the long hitter. Jim McClean may be a famous teacher, but as a course designer there's a reason his name is not on other courses. He is blinded by his desire to create a monument to his name. Now add a second ego like Donald Trump and you have ballyhoo instead of a formerly really good course that just needed some freshening and better maintenance. Gone are the sand traps because pros don't like them. The new name is how long can we hit it? The fact that they destroyed a really challenging course for all doesn't matter. The whole course is now about length instead of shot placement, strategy or thinking through a hole. Just hit it long.
Clearly a top notch course and staff.
The course is very well maintained. The staff are incredibly friendly and professional. It was a great round of golf!
Great course with brand new equipment
Recently renovated. Great equipment (brand new carts, GPS, etc.) very friendly staff and very nice course - good bar at the end of the round.
Challenging Course
Well maintained, challenging layout, long and with water everywhere.
Great layout and condition, lots of water for wayward shots
Course was in great condition although greens had been aerated in past few weeks. Still rolled well. #10 is normally a par-5 but playing as a par-3 due to the temp home for McLean's school while the Blue Monster is being renovated. No driving range but nets to hit balls to loosen up. Plenty of water hazards to grab wayward shots. Staff very friendly. Great price thru GolfNow.
Doesn't deserve the name Trump
I was excited to play one of the new Trump courses but after a 5 hour round ( because there are no rangers or any kind of assistance to enforce slow play) i gave up and left the course.
I was told that the course was recently upgrade and improved.
Well, i was not impressed.
I paid $35 over Golf Now, which was fair for the conditions.
When i called the course the day before I was told that the greens were punched about 3-4 weeks ago and are running great.
I hate it when they lie! They were punched and ran maybe an eight. Well, i should have known that $35 doesn't give you much in Miami. Not worth the trip down to Doral.
