Monarch Bay Golf Club - Tony Lema Course

Greens were in great shape. Went out at noon and pace of play was perfect. One of the best deals in the Bay Area.

Very underwhelmed with the track. The aroma of garbage seems appropriate given the goose feces all over the track. The layout was decent and the greens were good (8~ on the stimp), but pace of play was horrendously slow.

Purchased 4 players with the cart but the course won accept the email says including cart. They charge us another cart payment.

I paid for the hot deal that included a golf cart but when I arrived, they told me that the GolfNow price was incorrect and that I would have to pay an additional cart fee.

The course is great for the price. A lot of geese and droppings but overall not a bad course for $40 (plus cart fee at check in).

If choose to spend a weekend trip here or you are a regular player here the fun is real. Lots of playing room for all levels of play. Don’t fear the wind. It is part of the regular Bay Area conditions.

Well manicured greens. The use of all your clubs is important. Come out and play this legendary course.

Good course but there was no Marshall to keep things going.

Good enough is my title because it's expensive to maintain a good course and you get what you pay for. I thought Monarch Bay was reasonable. Greens were well maintained although slow. Big fairways mostly plenty of grass, a few bare spots. Tees were occasionally uneven so make sure you find a flat spot. Course is well set up given the prevailing winds. Friendly staff. "Spirited players." Accepting its a municipal golf course with lots of players I was not surprised or bothered by people shouting about good shots or swearing about bad ones. Teed it up on a Thursday at noon and played in 5 hours. I'd say check it out and enjoy.

Walked it in under 4 hours on a Thursday morning and that included waiting on the last 4 holes. Was breezy for the whole round. Greens weren’t quick but very even and smooth.

Pretty interesting course with beautiful ocean view. The only complaint I have is that we had to wait a long time for 2 par 3s - #7, # 17. They were two groups on the tee box at #7, and there were 3 groups waiting on #17. We ended up did not finish our round. I think it would be great if we can have a marshal to help out - have people mark their ball, and let next group to hit before finishing putting

5:33am tee time. Finished in 4hrs. Course in good condition for the most part
