About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Great Course!!!! Pace of play.....SLOW!!!
There are too many nongolfers playing this course! The group in front of us were playing for the 3rd time ever. Why do that to yourself and everyone behind you. Play an easier, shorter course where you can have fun. Besides that everything about the course is great! Be prepared for a long afternoon.

Awesome Course
This is such an awesome course. Bent grass greens are so nice this time of year, while places with Bermuda are in recovery. Don’t hit in the long stuff because you probably won’t find your ball. Cart paths only were a disappointment for me but I understand.

Great layout… ok conditions… staff unfriendly
The course layout is fantastic. The bunkering is beautiful. The fairways were a bit a tall for my liking and the greens are a bit slower than they should be. Duke course conditions are way better. People didn’t fix their pitch marks on the green. The staff was like everyone hated to be there and treated us like we were an annoyance to them.

Great course that has high value. Challenging and in fine shape.
Restaurant is lacking so lunch or dinner at the course wouldn’t be recommended.

Zero Communication
Get to golf course and see hardly any cars in parking lot and for Lonnie Poole that never happens. Walk to club house and see putting greens is topped dress so I assume the other 18 greens are. Check in, then check in with starter so far no words about back nice closure. As we are pulling down to green starter yells back nine is closed (this is second golf course that this has happened.) this a pretty significant deal when you pay Lonnie Poole price and get front 9 top dressed greens. I find it hard to believe that GolfNow or either pro shop in both instances couldn’t have mentioned it. We use to get alerts about stuff like this all the time. Now crickets
