About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Lonnie Poole firstimer
Was surprised and impressed. My only caveat was the condition of the course, but given the time of year - mid-March - I understand the conditioning - trimmed down rough, early stages of new grass, etc. will have to play in high season to review again.

Nothing different with this place
If you’ve played here you know how consistent the course conditions are. Greens are as good as they could be during a North Carolina February.

Course has a lot of wear from excess play divots in key spots.. pace was fine on front side and two players dropped out for back. The twosome in front of me turned to three by12 hole..then 5or 6 by the 15th. Throw in the golf team member with coach jumping in behind me on the course once hitting into a green before I reached it and practicing behind me while I am waiting on 6players in front of me… I just left the course. Probably wont be back anytime soon. There always is something going on at this course dysfunctional .

Terrific course with a challenging but performable layout
I am a below-average golfer, handicap wise. I enjoyed playing this course, and I feel that although it is a more-so target golf and challenging course, it can play to novice players as well. The bunkers were well-maintained; the course structure was great, and the fairways/greens were very solid for February game play.

Best course in raleigh
Lonnie pool is the best course in town. Any golfer can enjoy the course playing from multiple tee positions. Course is challenging. Greens rolls fine. Even k. Winter condition the course is in pristine condition. Highly recommend.

Poor conditions and slow
Greens were battered with ball marks, fairways very soggy. Bunkers and the practice areas were good. Pace of play got very bad on the back 9.
