About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Well worth the money
First time playing this course and it was wonderful. Plenty of options off the tee box. Course was in great shape. Staff was incredibly friendly. Highly recommend.

Dad & 3 Sons Outing
I bought this round for my 87 year old father’s birthday. My two brothers were able to round out our foursome. It was a very special day and the overall experience was fantastic! I am a PGA Professional who has almost 20 years of experience in the industry and can say without hesitation that not one part of the day’s experience was less than awesome! It took us awhile to play, but we didn’t have to wait and didn’t hold anyone up behind us. Ranger staff were present and visible to make sure things kept moving. It was the first time for all four of us and I promise it won’t be the last! Lonnie Poole is a big boy golf course!! Thank you for the amazing, memorable day with my family!

Always Nice to get on LP when in Raleigh
Hot and breezy, but the greens were soft from all the watering. Was a good challenge.

Great Condition
Overall the course is in excellent condition. Would be nice if people would fix ball marks and rake the bunkers! Greens were a little spongy but rolled true.

Worth every penny!
A solid test, fun layout, greens were medium fast and held shots very well...pick the right tees and it's a challenge without being over the top. I'd recommend this track to any of my golf buddies without hesitation. Played with my spouse and two mid double digit hcp younger fellows, everyone had fun and pace of play considerably better than most resort courses, 4hrs 5 minutes and is well monitored.

Very good condition for the summer heat
Bent grass greens are in surprisingly good condition for late summer....would be even better if people would fix ball marks!!!!!
Fairways and rough are in good shape....traps could use some raking (by golfers in front of us). Great layout, play the correct tees and know where to miss....you'll enjoy the course.

Pace of Play was Awful. Rangers did not do anything
This round was the slowest I have played all year. My Son and I (Twosome) kept waiting behind Group of 4 who would not let us pass. Rangers did nothing but ride around. 4 hours and 50 minutes with carts on a weekday is very very slow.

Fun course
Played here many times and really enjoy the course. This round I found that most bunkers had the sand packed down. They really needed a deep raking. In addition to this, the course is recovering nicely from aeration and the green are soft. With this said, there were several places on the green where folks didn't properly fix ball marks. This was frustrating as a few of my puts went offline as a result. Overall, good shape and value!

Beautiful Challenging Course
I was really impressed with the design of this course and all though its next door to NC State it feels like you are outside the city. It is a very long course and is more hilly that your typical golf course in the area; a few holes you can't even see the landing zone. The greens aren't in the best of shape however, but you can expect this with public courses. The Facilities were beautiful and the golf cart is equipped with the golf GPS Map. I highly recommend this course, it is a lot of fun and beautiful!
