About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Very Good Condition for July
Bent grass greens are hanging in there despite the heat....greens a little furry and way too many unrepaired ball marks! Rest of course is in excellent condition.
Native areas are being allowed to grow up, so you may need to plan on carrying some extra golf balls!

Lonnie Poole
The golf course was in very good condition however the course allowed a group of college players to delay the entire round. There were 5 players in the group ahead of us for the entire round that made our foursome wait on every shot. Rangers were present but no one was asked to speed up play even though the cart GPS said we were behind. Nice course but be ready to play a 5 hour round!

Outstanding experience
Visiting from Canada. What a test. Tee to green shots were challenging ,fair and varied. Every hole was different , elevation changes and bunkering keeps your attention. Greens rolled true with no “ trickery” ie great slopes and tiers. Large greens can result in very long putts. Tough on beginners I expect.
Really enjoyed the southern hospitality of the staff.Overall superb.

Lonnie Poole is great! GolfNow is garbage
I made a reservation online to play here. I paid almost $170, $13 of which went to the Ticketmaster of golf, GolfNow. If you see an open time on their website, just call the pro shop and save $13. Even the friendly college student up front said so.

Cons:
They started groups on 10 just before we made the turn. Pace of play ground to a halt. We quit after 14.
Greens hadn’t recovered from punching - very inconsistent.
