About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Fun track, slow back 9
Enjoyed the layout, conditions for the most part and the amenities. Off mats for the par 3’s which I didn’t like, no discount for that either. Slow back 9 as the course seems to have more gimmicks.
Great but pricey
In great shape for winter. People don't fix their ball marks but the greens are in good shape. Staff is nice

Lots of players start on 10
One of the worst courses I’ve seen as far as letting people start on the back 9 even though there are groups on 9. Be ready for play to slow to a crawl on the back 9. I informed management but they didn’t even reply to my email and apparently don’t see this as a problem.

Lots of Groups Starting on Hole 10
Had a good pace of play on the front 9. However, we got to hole 10 and the starter had let 3 groups start on 10 ahead of us. From there the pace of play slowed to a crawl and I called it a day. I emailed the general manager about this and never got a reply. Apparently they think it's okay to disrespect the golfers coming from 9. Be ready if you're trying to play 18 holes.

First Class Facility
Course layout and condition were excellent. Staff was extremely friendly. Starter knew I was a single and provided options for an earlier tee time.
Take advantage of the putting green…….all 18 greens were challenging.
Will definitely play here again.

Groups jump in on 10 which really sucks.
Pace of play on front nine was fine . We get to 10 and there’s 3 groups that started on ten, ahead of us. We all know how much that sucks. It’s happened to me several times.

Tar Heel Enjoyed The Pack Course
This is a big boy track for sure. Forgiving fairways but a challenge. Wonderful conditioned course with slick greens. My only critique would be 18. Fairway needs to extend thru to the green & the left to right slope on approach is too penal.

Great layout.
Interesting front 9. 3 par 5s & 3 par 3s. Very challenging but fair. Played the Wolfpack (white) tees. Greens were fast & rolled true. Detailed Green information on the cart GPS. Highly recommended.

Awesome Course, Excellent Condition
Lonnie Poole has to be the best public course in the Raleigh area. I had really liked Duke's course in Durham, but this one was even better. Fairways were lush, rough was fair, great challenge. If you put your ball out of position off the tee, take your medicine.and punch out. But every hole makes you think about where to place your tee shot. Greens were rolling perfectly and fast. Very good value, especially for playing on a Friday at prime time. I will definitely be coming back more.

Fast greens Slow play
The course is in great shape and the greens are slick. New sand in the bunkers around the greens is awesome for both play and locks. I would’ve had a much better time if it had not been so slow. It seemed as though some players started on the back nine in the afternoon which slowed it down to a snail pace. If that is your practice there that will be a deterrent for coming back. I also found some 50% off Adidas Chaos shoes in the pro shop. That was a great deal.

The course is very well maintained and staff are kind.
Price is reasonable.
Only one thing is that it's a very difficult book a tea time. But overall is okay.
