About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Way overpriced
Good thing i got a hot deal. This course is slipping big time.... Hitting off mats on par 3s??? Come on. Cart path only for no reason......$8 for a small bucket of range balls. Conditions mediocre at best.Pace of play terrible....annoying GPS on carts. Warning me that my group was behind 20minutes. Meanwhile we waited on tee boxes and faiways for upwards of 10 minutes at times. Never seen a ranger.

Great day at Lonnie Poole
For the time of year, and coming off a day of driving rain, LP played beautifully. This is a challenge for any golfer. However, the number of tee boxes makes it so playable for almost any player.

Great Layout
Course was in good shape, greens weren’t as fast or in as good shape as I would have expected though. Somewhat understand coming out of winter. Pace of play was great and the layout, especially the back nine was beautiful. For what it cost to play, there are other courses that I think are better values (ex. Pine Hollow in Clayton). Will play again though if I get a deal

Pro Shop snob
The gentleman in the pro shop was rude and did not barely talk very short and curt. I had to ask questions for everything and got a short curt answer almost like I was bothering him. I will not go back.

Course open w ample landing areas
Several greens run away from approach shots - making them difficult to birdie.

Very quick
Lot's of places to find trouble at Lonnie. I wasn't expecting the greens to be so fast after a rain. Diabolical is the only word. Finally made sure to leave it below the pin even if it was off the green on the back side.

Winter round
Course was good for winter conditions. Obviously receives a lot of play. Wouldn’t mind playing again and today the pace of play was excellent!

Great course, a bit o a frost delay. Great staff, great lroute. Several tees to arch our skill level. Wet in places but it is January in Raleigh.
