About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Where's the water?
Love this course. I have only one complaint, but it's a big one: no drinking water on the course, other than two water fountains on the same hole and then at the turn. Walking this hilly course in 96 deg weather and 85% humidity is no easy task. The lack of drinking water is a major problem. I easily lost 5+ lbs of water weight after this most recent round. I cannot understand this decision, even in a post-COVID time.

Great Course
Our foursome had a great time playing the course. The staff was especially helpful. After determining it was out first time, a staff member took us outside and showed us around. The Starter was nice and informative. A great day for us!
Worth it!
If you have a chance to play Lonnie Poole, take it. I can go into more detail, but it's worth a play, even at full price.

Nice Play
Enjoyed the course. The cart showed that we were 19 mins ahead of schedule; however the ranger felt we needed to pick up the pace since there were two free holes in front of us. The other cart in our foursome left and went ahead in order to speed up. It was cart path only, again, the two carts behind us must have had special instructions since they were all over the fairways.

Very nice
Great track in great condition. Enough challenge for the good players from the back tees and generous fairways for the not so good. Greens were a little shaggy for the hot weather, but still rolled pretty good. Will be back.

Very Good Condition for July
Bent grass greens are hanging in there despite the heat....greens a little furry and way too many unrepaired ball marks! Rest of course is in excellent condition.
Native areas are being allowed to grow up, so you may need to plan on carrying some extra golf balls!

Lonnie Poole
The golf course was in very good condition however the course allowed a group of college players to delay the entire round. There were 5 players in the group ahead of us for the entire round that made our foursome wait on every shot. Rangers were present but no one was asked to speed up play even though the cart GPS said we were behind. Nice course but be ready to play a 5 hour round!
