About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Great course condition very windy
It was too bad the wind was blowing. The course was in tournament condition. Greens were fast. It was hard to judge the distances with the wind.

Love it
Treated great, course in great shape. A challenge for us 80s golfers. Pace of play ahead of us (on a beautiful Friday in October) was such that we waited on pretty much every tee and fairway.

Morning tee times always delayed
As usual at LP, morning tee times were running 15-20 minutes behind, because they crammed in three additional, un-booked, university affiliated groups. It might not seem like a big deal, but when you're trying to get in a round of golf before your 2 PM meeting, it sort of becomes a big deal. It's unfair to the starters, too, who are left to explain why everything is backed up.

We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. Greens are Spongy/Beat up
Poole is a blast to play....I usually avoid it mid-June thru mid-Sept. The bent grass greens just can't handle the Raleigh heat.....they get overwatered and very few people fix their ball marks. The rest of the course is in great condition. Wish they would go to Bermuda greens!
