About
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State University was designed by Arnold Palmer with the help of N.C. State graduates Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson. It's home to the university's men's and women's golf teams but it's open to the public as well. It's a favorite among locals who claim it's one of the toughest golf courses in the Triangle. The course sprawls across more than 200 acres on the southernmost portion of Centennial Campus, a location that is easily accessible from I-40 and offers scenic views of the Raleigh skyline. The greens can be difficult to read and they are often framed by rough
areas and strategically placed bunkers that make them even trickier. It's an especially tough golf course to play on windy days. Lonnie Poole G.C. is a beast from the black tees but the shorter tees make it accessible for high handicappers.

Great track
Just a great track to play. Challenging but fair. Bunkers could use some work, kinda crusty in some. Greens are in good shape for bent in the summer. Worth playing year round.

Cold water.
No ice anywhere on golf course. We never saw a beverage cart during the round. There are two cold water stations on the course. The temperature was in the mid 90’s and high humidity. This is the only complaint about the round.

Lonnie Poole Course Review
The course was a very well kept and beautiful course. It was somewhat challenging. By Somewhat I mean there are a few really tough holes that can eat you up if you do not hit to the right zone. Having good driver here is key to set up second shot. The Par 3's are very short compared to some courses I played but manageable. Key to this course is being good out of the sand and having confidence in that area.

Another Great Round at the Poole
Booked a final day of the 3-day weekend round at my favorite Raleigh area golf course. Played with 2 great friends and we had the chance to play with one of the course volunteers. That made for a more interesting day, as we heard some nice insights on Lonnie Poole management.
Truly top-notch golf venue. A must-play if you're visiting the area.

Very nice course
Lots of fairway traps, but generous landing areas on most holes making the course playable from med to high skill levels.
Pace of play is slow due to lots of ball searching in calf high grass. Plus most par 5 are reachable in 2 for longer hitters creating back ups there.
Incredible view from 11 tee box of downtown Raleigh in the distance.
