Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club
About
Established in 1926, Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club has long been one of the Sacramento Valley's most treasured courses. First opened as a nine-hole layout, the course expanded to a full 18 holes in 1960. Mature oak trees line the lush fairways and small greens and there is also a canal that snakes through the entire property, coming into play on 12 holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers protecting the greens. You're in for a formidable test on this golf course but the rough is quite manageable and the layout isn't particularly long or hilly. Plumas Lake's 10th is one of the most memorable holes. This tough hole is a short par 5 that requires an accurate drive over a creek that crosses the fairway before you're faced with an elevated green.

very nice greens
I would of given this course 5 stars in the past when I only played this course, but ive played Apple Mountain, Paradise Valley, and Rancho Solano a few times lately and they are above 5 star courses so now im spoiled. Anyways this is like my home course, and will always enjoy playing but it is a really nice course. Open space, descent rate of play, and they usually pay a lot of attention to their greens. Will play here for a long time
great course and in good shape
Great time great place in good shape very nice course
A lot of surprises on the fairways!
You really need to check each sign at the tee box to see what your fairways look like. I lost a few balls with great second shots to ravines. My fault for not checking, it was our 1st time at Plumas Lake.had a great time anyway, the pace of play was as fast as you could go, no waiting and the course was in pretty decent shape. The greens were tough with great pin placements. Overall money well spent for a day golfing on a fun challenging course!
Fun fair course the newer greens are challenging
I have played this course 50-60 times but since moving from the area this was the first time since they changed the greens. The greens made a simple tee to green course much or challenging. They have several ridges that requiring accurate shots and distance control.
# 9 is ridiculous
# 9 is just unfair,,no path for a drive to clear,,course was fun except one 4 some slowing pace for everyone,, They never tried to speed up or let anyone thru,,frustrating
A great place to spend the day.
Course is always challenging, greens have recently plugged, fairways in great shape. The price was right, going thru Golf Now was the best move I have made in a long time.
Will be going back on regular basis
Good round
I was in the area for a baseball game in Marysville and wanted to get a round in after the game. I got to the course around 4PM.and was very pleased with what I found. It's sort of a golf oasis dropped in the middle of thousands of acres of farm land. The fairways are tree lined and there is a river bed that runs througout the course (it was dry, perhaps due to the drought?)
Now, if your expecting a pebble beach like golf course that's not what you're going to find. The fairways are spotty and some of the tee boxes needed work. But if you're coming out to play a low stress round of golf, work out some swing adjustments, and have a nice afternoon round I recommend this course.
Stay in the middle
Tattered fairways, I imagine this will improve over the spring and summer. Stay out of the trees, or else double bogeys are the norm
great course
Came from Elk grove so the course is a bit of a drive. Overall for winter golf it was pretty good. Fairways are almost all brown but the greens were in pretty good shape for the time of year. Lots of trees to contend if you don't keep it on the fairway. Most enjoyable. Bunkers have great sand.
Fun course but dry, hard fairways.
This course takes a little time to get to but it is fun to play sometimes. The low price helps to pay for the gas to get there. Greens are tricky to putt and because of the lack of rain are hard to hold. The fairways are dry and sometimes hard to hit off. There are many interesting hole and most will require working the ball. Give it a try.
Dormant but in overall good shape.
Dormant fairways and pretty thin on the grass in fairways.
Can't beat the deal..but,
I haven't played Plumas Lake for almost 2 years now. Playing there the other day reminded me why. Every fairway has got winter kill on it. I'm not sure if they can't water the fairways or they are a victim of the lack of rain, but the other places I've played so far this winter are not nearly as bad. The greens are fine and watered but that's probably because they spent a bunch of money putting the whop-dee-do's back into them. I'm sure they don't want to lose them. The guy in the pro shop is not exactly a people person and the mens and ladies rooms are not really inside and are unheated with no hot water. That's why I put the "but "on my review title but listen, if you just want to wack the ball around for cheap and those things I mentioned wouldn't bother you, then go for it.
Good Monday for Golf
Our foresome had an enjoyable and timely round (18 holes) of golf and the course was in good midwinter shape, especially the greens. Grounds crews were deepening and adding new sand to most of the sand traps but did not disturb our round at all.
Horrible Customer Service, Won't Return!!
Drove down from Chico with some friends and was disappointing on how dry the course was but its understandable with the current water shortage. Called the day before and the Pro Shop said their course was in excellent condition. Second disappointment was the unpleasant golf pro/attendant that checked us in. Normally I can deal with rudeness but this person exceeds any tolerable limit. I can accept a dry course but not bad service. Emailed the course to share my experience and didn't receive any reply. This is a perfect example of a course that has obviously been in existence for a long time but is failing to reach its potential in being a successful business. I rarely post negative comments but in this case I need to make an exception. Next time I will consider other courses in the area and I recommend you do the same.
Not what it used to be...
I've played this course on and off for 35 years. This used to be consistently ranked in the top 10 public courses in Golf Digest- used to be and the clientele was a more pleasant group. The greens were re-built somewhere around 10 years ago and now resemble a miniature golf course. With many pin placements- the greens are impossible to putt well. Long story short- the course is now flooded with novices and low-lifes with the discounted green fees and given the demographics of the area. They have no respect for the course or anyone else let alone know golf etiquette. The members are old, crusty and grumpy and don't return smiles or greetings. The staff is distraught and grumpy given the fiscal disaster they are facing. They are starting foot golf soon with the thought this will rescue them from fiscal disaster- I'm not going to waste my time playing here anymore.
Tricky Greens
Course is in great condition. The greens on the other hand are in great condition too except that there are none on the flat side. They all seem to be breaking this way or that way and some even have a double break or triple break
Not the freindliest golf course
Clubhouse staff was cold to us when we arrived. Took our name and that was it. We wondered if they are annoyed with golf now customers and only treat club members well. Very snooty. I could have went to my home course and be treated nicer. Thought that we would try something new and drive an hour and a half. That was a mistake. Very slow play for not being busy. Instead of grouping a single with the twosome behind us they let him play by himself. He joined up with us and then slowed us down, where the twosome was pressuring us. Play not managed well. Pins placed in ridiculous spots on the greens. On the edge of hills of the green. You could putt six inches past the hole and it roll 30 feet to off the green.
Went to have garlic fries after the round in the club house. They were mushy and cold.
Not easy, but it is fun
No highway noise. Quiet country course that's not too far from the city. One of our favorites.
Great Greens
Challenging great greens A lot of fun nice people.
I totally agree with this review and recently had the same poor experience.
