Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club
About
Established in 1926, Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club has long been one of the Sacramento Valley's most treasured courses. First opened as a nine-hole layout, the course expanded to a full 18 holes in 1960. Mature oak trees line the lush fairways and small greens and there is also a canal that snakes through the entire property, coming into play on 12 holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers protecting the greens. You're in for a formidable test on this golf course but the rough is quite manageable and the layout isn't particularly long or hilly. Plumas Lake's 10th is one of the most memorable holes. This tough hole is a short par 5 that requires an accurate drive over a creek that crosses the fairway before you're faced with an elevated green.

Narrow Fairways
Hot and muggy day but got a great deal so played anyway. Course is tree lined with narrow fairways. If you spray your tee shots, consider another course. Combination of long holes and shorter ones. There is a drainage ditch running throughout the course. Many times this ditch comes into play yet is not visible. Longer hitters need to scale back on #3 and #6 tees. you can't see the ditch on your second shot on #15. Greens were in fair condition, but very soft. People were not good at repairing ball marks.
Pretty nice
Course is kept up, greens are nice. Only problem was after my group finished the first 9. There was nobody around to get food from the food core. Come to find out they close at 4:30pm. Also we went on a Saturday. Which I thought was awful cause ended up hungry on the back 9. :/
Hidden Jewel
This course would be easy to overlook as it is hidden in acres of crops but is worth the search. Course has many mature trees, some located in the fairway, just to add to the challenge. No water on the course except for a shallow ditch that snakes around protecting several greens. All of us in our foursome agreed that they would play here again. Almost forgot, the several two tiered greens add variety to the putting experience.
Great out of town get away with a group.
I played18 holes with my 15 year old son. The person at the pro shop was great in that we were running a little behind, coming from out of town and needed to back out tee time a bit.
The food in the bar was good but took a while to get it. the course was in really good condition. the greens were holding a shot. Pace of play perfect. Cost to play was fabulous, $38.00 for two with cart.
I would do it again.
Burbs but tough greens
They keep this course in great shape. The pin positions were awfully tough.
Hot Time at PL GC
nice day green are in great shape range ball are nice good range
cart's are in good working order staff nice the 19th hole has the good stuff.
Played again after 25 years
Course is still "out in the boonies" but a nice drive from the Sacto area. Course is in pretty good shape but several of the greens appear to have been hit by a fungus. Greens rolled true and I had trouble judging the wind on several holes. But the price thru golfnow.com was great and I'd play it again. The trees had grown in the past 25 years and I'm still looking for the Lakes??????????
Our Saturday
We signed up as 3. After waiting for our tee time a 4th person was added. We did not expect to have that happen. We were not the caliper golfer as this person so I don't think it was really fun for all of us.
Fairways ok, great greens
Tee'd off at 8:00 am, so we finished in just over 4 hours. The greens were in great shape and rolled true and fast. Would recommend to anyone. Just make sure to tee off early or pace of play will be slow.
A putters fantasy
So this course was a bit of a trek from the Roseville area, but I think it was definitely worth it. The course has an older style country club feel to it, which I realized I had definitely been missing in my rounds. Overall it was a very fun course to play.
The best feature of the course would definitely be the greens. They weren't quite US Open fast, but it certainly seems like they tried to get as close as they could without risking burning them up. There are subtle undulations as well as some significant breaks in these greens. They roll really pure. Approach shot placement is definitely important.
The rest of the course is in average condition, but considering the lower prices I think they've done a good job keeping it up. The sand traps were in fairly good condition as well, which is nice considering they are one of the most expensive things to keep up.
The course layout presented a lot of opportunities for shaping shots, and there are definitely some risk / reward holes when it comes to hitting the driver vs. laying back for a safer landing but longer approach. They did have one wonky tree in the middle of the fairway hole, but they trimmed it enough to where you can shape a low approach under it to either side.
All in all it was worth the trip, and I'll definitely be going back. Should shave 5 strokes off just from having played it once.
Side notes: Round was very fast - not very busy due to it being out of the way even for locals. Plenty of drinking water available throughout the round. Carts don't have GPS so if you want it, don't forget the extra batteries for your handhelds. The tri-tip sandwich was less than great, but better than good. For the price the sandwich and golf were well worth it.
Great Deals!
While not my favorite course, this was the best deal for the money. Course in good shape and the greens are TOUGH, so it makes this course a little bit of a challenge if the flat stick isn't working well for you. Out of the way, but the course was full AND the pace was outstanding with an actual Marshall DOING HIS JOB and keeping up the pace -- 4hr round on a Saturday morning.
Good old fashioned course
Plumas Lake is a good solid old fashioned tree lined course. No water hazards to deal with except for a creek/canal that meanders through the course. Really fun and challenging with draws and fades required off the tee. You will hit some punch shots from the trees but you can play the same ball all day. Greens are pure, fast, and tricky. Pace of play was blazing fast. The place is not pretentious and the players seem to come for the love of the game, not to spend 5 hours smoking cigars and closing business deals. Good solid place.
This course has great greens
Challenging course with the wind and trees. Many dog legs and some water made it challenging. I enjoyed the round
bunker rakes are dangerous
After using rake, a splinter got stuck in my finger. Could not get it out completely, I finished the game with pain and spent half an hour at home to get it out.
Most of the rakes are in poor shape and they are obviously not a good quality rakes to begin with.
Enjoyable
Fair and pace was good. We played early so I can only regard the pace as an early player.
Staff
Staff was not very polite because he wanted me to share the cart even though the course was all empty and I had no one playing 30 min behind or ahead of me.
Plumas Lake GC.
The green's were great weather was great the wind came up a little bit the fairway's were being done grass plug's on some holes but the rest was very nice carts were clean and nice
Plumas Lake WOW
I have played this course for over 20 years. Although the fairways were punched, the course was in great shape. We bumped in the fairways. In a week or two it should be perfect. The greens are among the toughest I have putted on. 2 of them are sick hard. To score you must leave you ball below the hole. The surroundings are quiet and the huge trees provide an abundance of shade. Our Golf Now deal made the 40 minute drive from Roseville well worth it. We played in 4 hours and the staff was great. *****
Best Greens
Tough test. Tons of trees you have to shape your ball around. Right now the greens are the best in the area.
