Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club
About
Established in 1926, Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club has long been one of the Sacramento Valley's most treasured courses. First opened as a nine-hole layout, the course expanded to a full 18 holes in 1960. Mature oak trees line the lush fairways and small greens and there is also a canal that snakes through the entire property, coming into play on 12 holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers protecting the greens. You're in for a formidable test on this golf course but the rough is quite manageable and the layout isn't particularly long or hilly. Plumas Lake's 10th is one of the most memorable holes. This tough hole is a short par 5 that requires an accurate drive over a creek that crosses the fairway before you're faced with an elevated green.

Plumas Lake Review
For a course built in the 1920's its in really good shape. Trees line the fairways on both sides. A few holes are straight ahead a few dogleg. Good challenge for intermediate player..Book with golf now can't go wrong on the price
Old course with character
The course is not particularly long at 6400 yards from the tips, but the tree-lined fairways and undulating smallish greens make for challenging golf. You will need to play at least one round to determine course management as there are some severe doglegged holes and unseen water hazards from the tee boxes.
Fun course challenging from the from the tips
Overall the course was is very good condition.
The greens were in good shape / good speed
The bunkers were in great shape a lot of sand.
The staff was very friendly and helpful
Playing from the blue tees were tougher
Play from the white tees if your a bogey golfer
tough and challenging
Closest course to me and I enjoy playing it well taken care of and great customer service
Very good greens
Course is in very good shape. Greens are fast and true, with a few ball marks here and there. Overall, don't know that I have seen this course in better shape. Pretty wet early, so keep it in the short grass.
One of my favorites
The Course can get tattered after a summer of a lot of play but I found it to be in excellent condition with the greens in great shape and fast. It seems like a simple course but a number better players than me find it difficult. They have trees there from all over that are hard for knowledgeable people to identify. Lots of beautiful Cork Oaks if you've never seen where your wine stopper comes from.
good challenge
Greens are a little rough, very sloped!a lot of pin placements are stupid,on side of slopes!fun day though.save ridiculous pin placements for tournaments, not the first time!
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
On my drive home from Paradise, CA to Newark, CA I took the advice of a blackjack player at Feather Falls to play this course. The night before I looked at the reviews and they were spot on. So I'm thinking out in the boondocks in farm country I'm gonna get a nice flat, easy layout. Well let's start with #1, 430 yards, wow, okay double bogey but the hard one is out of the way. #2, driver, 3-wood, yikes this is a beast. #3, par 3 and I get a hole-in-one. Well, kind of, throughout the course are these larger holes to the sides of greens, an I knocked it into the hole. I later come to find out these might possible for a new craze involving a soccer ball and golf. Well, 18 holes and by the end I wanted to go to the clubhouse and ask the guy, "If someone came to you and asked you to take them to the easy hole, where would you take them." This is a beast of a course, so no whining and expect bogeys, doubles and triples. I absolutely loved this course, even the holes in regulation holes had subtle breaks making the putting difficult. I completely agree with a review I saw stating that when the course was laid out in 1926 it was built for 2014 trees, but it's not like you can't see them. There were a couple of holes with hidden water obstacles so the second time around should be better. Another review said don't miss the turn off, I'm still a little confused how to get to this course from Hiway 70. If you enjoy beating yourself up and not taking things too seriously I think this is a great stop on the way up to Chico. Next time I'm setting personal par and not expecting more than 4 or 5 pars. I hope you enjoy this course. BTW, I started after 2:00 and was done by 5:30, a good day.
excellent
Had a great time playing this course.. In good condition and for the price couldn't beat it. Will come again.
Good golf
I enjoy playing on this golf corse!i deffenely will be back thank u!!
Undulating Greens
Nice layout, challenging holes...a bit of a drive from Sacramento but not too bad
Great course.
Sand Traps are to large and it makes it difficult for the average golfed but course was in great shape and enjoyed our round and will be back.
Nice course
Slow play but course was in good condition and the staff is always friendly. That keep me coming back. I can't wait to play next week!
California North State Oasis
Could it be?
Yes, beautiful, sprawling, open spaces. Excellent conditions, beautiful architecture, challenging greens...quick and undulating, bowls and slopes. Well groomed, level tee boxes. Most fairways wide and accepting of your driver, but a strategic 3 Metal, or 4 Hybrid make sense on some holes (tighter landing area or dog legs).
Could've, would've, should've broke 90, but... :-)
Coming from Sac Metro area it's about 45 min without traffic, so doable. Played on a Tuesday to beat the crowd and was pleased as punch.
Play it!

The best greens in the area.
The course is well maintained. The greens are firm and fast, the ball rolls very true. Some of the best sand traps anywhere (real sand)! There are a few dog legs left and right where you have to lay up or if you can shape your shot go for it. Some long and narrow par 4's where you need to be well positioned for your next shot. Loved playing this course.
Greens
The greens are challenging. There are not level on any green. Lots of break to work with.
Good course
Good course, well established, challenging with the mature trees.
Great Deal!
I've played this course a number of times with varying course conditions, but it was in great shape this last time around. The greens were almost fully recovered from a recent aeration but putts rolled true on all the greens. Fairways were in good shape considering how hot it has been and the lack of water in California. Course was not busy at all, probably due to it being in the afternoon of a 100+ degree day. Found a great deal through GolfNow so the value was excellent. If you live in the area, or even a little ways out I would recommend this course for a challenging, yet fun round.
