Laurel Hill Golf Club has some of the best conditions of any public course in the area, which is why it is popular amongst the locals. It is hard to believe that the club sits where the DC Department of Corrections facility at Lorton used to be located. The layout has a traditional design, but unlike older golf courses it runs a lengthy 7,102 yards from the back tees. The greens are lightning fast and undulating. There is defined contouring throughout the course, which allows for some interesting holes. Although the fairways are wide open they are still punishing towards errant shots. There are dramatic elevation changes throughout the golf course, making a flat lie nearly impossible to find. The course provides a formidable test for even the most seasoned players.

Tee boxes need repair

Tee boxes were in poor shape, especially par 3's, little pricy for the beer also.

DO NOT GO HERE

So apparently the incompetent pro shop worker has never played a round in 3.5 hours before because when we went in after 7pm (sun sets at 8) to ask for a rain check because the group in front of us was playing 30 mins per hole, we were told a rain check could not be given because we booked through golf now and our round started at 5:17pm. I’m sorry, so because my round starts at 5:17pm and 18 holes is the only option available for selection for online booking on GolfNow AND the actual course’s website, you can’t give me a rain check because the people in front of us had us at a snail pace from hole number 1? Not to mention, the 3rd guy that got paired with our group of 2 had his cart die on hole 7 (he mentioned it was the 2nd time this happened) and our cart died as well during our round. Trash cans flipped over on the course, unrepaired divots everywhere on the green, rude pro shop workers...I could continue going, but the point is this place sucks, DO NOT GO HERE. There are plenty of other well maintained, respectable, and playable courses in the area you could get far more than your money’s worth at.

Challenging but fair.

Amazing but difficult course. Friendly staff. Greens are in great shape. Walkable but wouldn’t advise it.

Starters need to be trained.

If the course is not busy and people are showing up as singles or twosome. The starter should think about sending people out as twosomes to speed up the pace. Instead, they always put together a foursome with the singles. and later send out the singles or twosomes to follow. It was just frustrating for everyone. I understand if the foursome shows up and they have to go out as a foursome, but that wasn't the case. The starter tries hard to put together a foursome when there aren't many people. This is usually the case for the Fairfax County Golf courses.

Aeration alert

Greens growing back in pretty well. Quick!

Some plugs and holes still visible in the fairways.

Paid full rack rate in weekend. Bit on steep side for county course!
