Laurel Hill Golf Club

About
Laurel Hill Golf Club has some of the best conditions of any public course in the area, which is why it is popular amongst the locals. It is hard to believe that the club sits where the DC Department of Corrections facility at Lorton used to be located. The layout has a traditional design, but unlike older golf courses it runs a lengthy 7,102 yards from the back tees. The greens are lightning fast and undulating. There is defined contouring throughout the course, which allows for some interesting holes. Although the fairways are wide open they are still punishing towards errant shots. There are dramatic elevation changes throughout the golf course, making a flat lie nearly impossible to find. The course provides a formidable test for even the most seasoned players.

A Great Course for Northern Virginia
Bill Love has given Northern Virginia a superb course with a great design. IMHO, this is the top-daily fee course in In region (with the possible exception of Raspberry Falls). Despite the onslaught of thunderstorms leading up to the day I played, the course was very playable and maintained its integrity despite being waterlogged. It was a nice way to conclude my vacation before returning to California.
poor condition
I have played this course since it opened 20 years ago and this was the worst condition I've ever seen it. Many dead spots on greens and fairways. Very disappointed as this been one of the best public courses in Fairfax county and charges premium prices accordingly. Not worth it in present condition
Course Conditions not as Good as in the past
We only got to play 14 holes because of rain and thunder. This course is usually in great condition but this time it was not. Many brown patches in the fairways and on the greens. The greens were also very slow. The price is expensive and we were disappointed in the conditions.
Range and putting green are very nice.
burnout fairways from the heat wave
sadly the hot humid weather has killed most of the fairways and greens. The course needs a few days off but as a municipal course, they won't do it. But many fairways are now turning to mud with torn up and dead grass The greens are brown and just mushy. 14 is near unplayable right now.
For this price, sorry guys, not worth it at all right now. It needs closing and having a week off.
Beat up
I play this course a couple of times every year, and love the layout, this is the worst it’s ever looked and played, greens were unmowed and slow, unrepaired ball marks all over
Solid
Great public course. A bit pricey when compared to other solid tracks nearby, but worth the extra dough. Well maintained, challenging, and long.
Great course for out of town player
I enjoyed playing the course. The course offered the challenges needed for a quality round of golf. I’d recommend playing with someone who knows the course well and plays at the level of your game.
The driving range could have been better maintained. It needs updating. The greens rolled on an average. Seemed slow compared to the greens I play in Texas. The sand bunkers were thin on sand. Could use more sand to offer a more consistent play thru the 18 holes.
Overall I’d recommend this course to anyone. Next time I’m in town I certainly plan on playing this course again.
Great Course
The Rain ☔️ Storm Came In So Fast After Being Unbearably Hot So I wasn’t able to Finish The Round; But The Course As Usual Was Great….!!!
Great course as always, but cut the greens!
Course great, staff great, greens soaking wet with dew and they were never cut our entire round
Very nice course
Great layout, great conditions, long & tough but fair, pricey but not outrageous
best public course in DMV
Please do not play this course if you are a beginner. This is a very difficult golf course. You will be frustrated , lose many balls and take over 5 hours to play.
The course is long. Even from white or gold tees due to the changing elevation.. Play the blues if you're under 12 handicap. and can drive it 220 yards. The rough is deep. The greens are huge and have subtle breaks. Bunkers are big and deep. Like I said, this is a difficult course. It's well worth the price. It's very hard to walk. Long uphill walks in between many tee boxes and extreme elevation changes throughout. There are some tough par 4s. The course builds in difficulty on the back. IF you hit near the edges, the balls will kick into OB..it's deep lush briars , kudzu, trees, etc. The rough this spring has been lush.
The facility is great. Practice area, putting green and driving range. No lights. Dining area is solid. Kudos to the long standing cart person! She's fabulous. Jon Eisman has a teaching facility with all levels of PGA pros available to take lessons. They have a great setup.
The inside shop staff has improved their customer service. They're not PGA pro's. They are just county hourly workers, some just wanting free golf in return. They're not as surly as they used to be and try to be helpful. Starters and rangers all volunteers in exchange for golf. Some better than others...but hey let's all be kind.
Maintenance on course is great. I'm hoping this summer they don't over water the course like they've done in years past. There seems to be this tug of war between members and public. For a county course, it can be very hard to get a tee time. But let's face it, it's worth it. This is the flagship municipal course in the area. It's holding several USGA and VSGA events.
