Laurel Hill Golf Club
About
Laurel Hill Golf Club has some of the best conditions of any public course in the area, which is why it is popular amongst the locals. It is hard to believe that the club sits where the DC Department of Corrections facility at Lorton used to be located. The layout has a traditional design, but unlike older golf courses it runs a lengthy 7,102 yards from the back tees. The greens are lightning fast and undulating. There is defined contouring throughout the course, which allows for some interesting holes. Although the fairways are wide open they are still punishing towards errant shots. There are dramatic elevation changes throughout the golf course, making a flat lie nearly impossible to find. The course provides a formidable test for even the most seasoned players.

Hole 16, Par 3, 185 yards Photo submitted by EthanZimman on 06/17/2013
Fantastic course; not at Bushwood, Sir!
You can't knock anything here with regards to design or maintenance. If you want game testing firmness/fastness, then you will certainly find it at Laurel Hill. And, in my estimation, you won't find two greater holes than 9 and 14 in the entire state.
The problem with Laurel Hill is the all encompassing elitism that pervades here. With the exception of the maintenance staff and food service staff, the employees and volunteers certainly exhibit the sense of entitlement seldom seen since the downturn of the golf economy.
10 years ago, it wasn't uncommon to see a shop pro or starter put on airs of superiority. But now, while most courses have made sweeping adjustments to encourage growth of the golf landscape, here is a county course that seems to be stuck in it's own ugly past.
I will continue to golf Laurel Hill, solely due to what the golf course offers. It's a shame that such a fantastic layout doesn't have to play by the same rules as many other local offerings, because I have personally rediscovered some less attractive courses due to their renewed emphasis on PR.
Bring your short game
Course is in decent shape, greens are very tricky. Driving range is pretty bad, course plsys well. Somewhat overpriced.
Superb/Excellent
This course impresses me every time I play it. The fairways are well kept and the greens are fast and tricky. The bunkers were redone and are in perfect condition. I have never seen it in bad shape ever! It is a great place for tournaments and it is by far the best course in Northern Virginia.
Could play this course every day.
Played from the tips and what a challenge. Just wish it was more affordable for the everyday kind of player.
Fantastic course, excellent condition.
I have played Laurel Hill many times but have never seen it in as good a condtion as it was yesterday. It was incredibly green despite our lack of rain recently. And even though the course has recently been aerated, the greens were true and smooth.
This course has all the character a great golf course needs!!!
I enjoyed playing this golf course because it was difficult. It was my first time playing it but it will not be the last. I also played it one day before aeration of the greens and that made my day!! Also, it cost me $19.00!!!!!!!!!
BEST COURSE IN THE DMV
Laurel Hill is course that is fun challenging & in fantastic condition all the time. The fairways, tee boxes, greens are in great shape & there is no course currently that is in such great shape. The tee times are well spaced out "Kudos to the staff there ". I was a single grouped to a 3 some & we finished the round just over 4 hours. we didn't have to wait on any shot on any hole which to me is paramount. Its is truly worth penny.
Great course at an Outstanding GolfNow Price!!!
Laurel Hills is a great design with a share of uphill and downhill holes. The fairways are wide, the greens fast (tho some had lots of ballmarks), and the bunkers nice. Practice facilities are wonderful with a great short game area and very much enjoyed the back to basic markings on the mats. Overall, great time on a wonderful country course!!
Great course for the price
Great course for the price. A very challenging but fair layout, each hole was very unique. Long Par 3’s and Par 5’s and thick rough made it a good break from the shorter courses I have played recently. I will definitely be back.
Great Course for the Value
It just hosted the U.S. Pub Linx in July. We played the Championship tees but unfortunately it was soaking wet and windy so there was no roll and at 7,100 yards it was a bit of a stretch. For only $60 off of the site it was a steal though. the greens still rolled great but I wish people would fix their ball marks and not leave cigar ashes all over the greens. It's disrespectful!
The bunkers were wet and firm which is how they are ofen played out on tour, hard and firm that is. Hopefully the county will keep this course in great condition; it's a helluva challenge.
Every hole is different and wonderful shot values
Great layout. Every hole is different no up and back. Greens were in pretty good shape. A lot of divots in the fairways but to be expected.
Should have paid the extra money!
The course was great, and the staff was helpful and friendly. My only regret is that I should have payed the extra money for a earlier tee time. I am returning to this course because It was challenging to me but it was also very playable.
Fantastic
I can't believe i havent played here until now. If you can get a deal on golfnow.com - i'd say this is one of the best public courses in the DC area. 15-20 drive from Arlington/DC.
That said - this is a very long, challenging course. Even the men's tees at 6400 yards have a few 420 yard par 4's - nothing to sneeze at. I would recommend to a (mildly) seasoned golfer - if you can't hit a drive 250+ this course might eat you up!
a Must play course
One of the best public courses in Northern VA area.. Wide fairways make the course very enjoyable.. May compared to Westfield and Raspberry..
Beautiful and well maintained.
First, I must say that I love this clubhouse. The facilities are high-quality and the food is superb. I got a hot, tasty sandwich and fries for $7.50. The practice facilities are also a cut above the rest, although I did have to hit off practice mats rather than grass. The practice bunker at the short game area gave me a taste of what was to be my favorite element of the course. Despite the rain, every bunker had the exact same consistency of white, sparkling, fluffy sand. I work at a TPC network course and Laurel Hill's bunkers put ours to shame. A golfnow hot deal makes Laurel Hill a stupendous value.
Good Course
This is one of the best courses near DC. Challenging but fair.
place is awesome
See my yelp review. . Overall 2 thumbs way up .. imsum lorem this thing is saying my review is too short. I dont eant to write anymore
Great Course!
Played just after a tournament so the course was a little banged up. Would still recommend the course to anyone. Great challenge!
the course is in prestine condition! truly a great test of golf.
I recommend this course to everyone. a great experience.
Beautifully laid out, challenging, and in great condition
In preparation for the public links championship, the course is in terrific condition. Shot best round of the year as the greens rolled true and held from the fairway. Rough was in the beginning stages of punitive but fairways were generous. Placement of tee shots important due to some sloping. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
