The Club At Viniterra
About
Situated between Richmond and Williamsburg, the Club at Viniterra sprawls across abundantly wooded hills. There is no shortage of elevation changes on this Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead-designed golf course. There is a difference of as much as 70 feet from the tee to the green on most of the holes. When combined with the mature trees, the result is a tough layout that demands accuracy. Thankfully though, there are not many water hazards to contend with but there is strategically placed bunkering throughout. The golf course also provides a scenic round with working vineyards running alongside the lush fairways. In addition to being challenging, the Club at Viniterra prides itself on their environmentally sensitive practices. The golf course saves as much as 80 percent of the water used on traditional courses thanks to the use of a drought-resistant grass hybrid.

Great layout and greens
Very generous fairways, very deep sand traps and very fast, undulating greens! Great layout.....this is a second shot course. Fairways were thin but greens were excellent! As other posts have stated....choose your tees carefully......if you are not a single digit handicap, steer clear of the blue tees!
Nice course needs maturity
Very Very Challenging new Rees Jones course in Williamsburg VA area. Pick the right set of tees or it can be a brute. Overall the course is new and needs some growing in. very hilly and after a recent rain, fairways did not drain well. Cart path only and 90 degrees made for a very humid golf round on a tough track. Probably walked 4 miles to & from cart paths to your ball. Would like to return when fully grown in and in cooler time of the year. Overall the holes were beautiful & challenging.
good course
Course played extremely long due to the wet conditions. Greens putted very fast which made it quite fun. Its pretty long from the whites as I'm a 16 handicap and shot a 98. The sand played very difficult due to the wetness.
Very Demanding Course
Depending which tee box is used, this course could be short or very long. Fairways are challenging and the greens are very undulating and fast. Would not walk the course unless you are in shape. Will definitely play again. Had a lot of fun and enjoyed the scenery.
Beautiful setting
Lots of hills, rolling fairways but there was more mud than grass in them, not green at all, must be all Bermuda. Had to pick the ball to hit it or you got a mud shot. Lots of bunkers, very hard, Long course, suggest you play forward tees for beginners. Greens were in great shape. Multiple tee boxes were great, lots of options for varied skilled players. Will be going back once the fairways fill in and green up.
Great fun
Each hole is challenging and exciting with wonderful views. A must play. Greens are pure to the line and like glass.
A fall from grace
Played this course two and three years earlier and it was in excellent shape . Played yesterday following heavy rains the day before and it was cart path only and with good reason . Greens fair to good . Fairways with little grass and muddy. Don't think fairways over seeded and what grass present was dormant and slick. Rees Jones design excellent but course has fallen on hard times and needs work . The whole property and adjacent vineyards and winery are exceptional and hope the new ownership can bring this wonderful spot back to it's former greatness .
1st timer
Great course for a challenge and the cart paths are nice too! they have a nice driving range and bunker area to get ready for your game!
beautiful course
This course is very nice and very challenging awesome driving range with a bunker to practice your chip shots very friendly staff beautiful long course with cart path going though the woods truly nice course
Good Coarse
Really enjoyed playing this coarse. Several holes were very challenging. The overall condition of play was excellent.
Tough challange
Excellent golf course. Bring your A game. This course will challenge you. And I would suggest you bring a few extra balls. You might lose one or two. Hole # 11 par 4, 489 from the blue tees, then after this hole # 12 up hill, landed around 150 marker but ball rolled back 30 yards.
Winter golf at Viniterra
Considering this was mid-January, it was a good day to play at 57 and no wind. They have bermuda fairways which were dormant and brown, but in decent shape considering. We had had a lot of rain, so the course was soggy in places. The greens weren't as bumpy as I thought they'd be in January. Good mix of holes - short, long; dogleg right and left; The pace of play was fine the first 9, even though I was a single following a twosome, who were following a threesome. But the threesome really slowed down and it took over 2.5 hours to play that nine. No ranger. Two criticisms - in some cases the cart path is far off and lower than the fairway, so I had a hard time knowing where my ball was. With CPO, it was a pain on about 4-5 holes. Second, the path from 9 to 10 didn't go past the clubhouse, and there were NO facilities anywhere on the course (not a big deal for guys, but female golfers beware). It was only the second time I had played there, and I look forward to playing during the summer when the bermuda is thick and green. There is just a small temporary clubhouse right now, but this is at a winery with a beautiful reception and tasting center across the street.
Fun course
Played for 45 dollars. There was a frost delay which happens in December. The course was in good shape the greens as always were amazing. Can't beat it for 45 dollars
18 holes
nice beautiful location,,, very long coarse , not for everyone,,, dont think you can walk this one,
great course
This was the first time I play this course.I found the course in GREAT shape . The fairways were wide and lots of sand around the greens which made for a very challenging round of golf. I find this course to be one of the best in the area.
Great Place to Play
This course is a model of how a course should be run. Conditions are consistently great. It was really challenging layout when I played from back tee(Black tee). I am planning to come back with my friends to challenge again. This course is worth seeking out.
A step above
This course always seem to be a step above the all the other courses in the area. Thank you for making my day of golf very special.

A must play
Awesome golf tract with an above average friendly staff--pick the correct set of tees to play to give yourself a chance at a good number.
Great Course!
Viniterra is one of the most challenging courses I've ever played - but thoroughly enjoyable. Despite being cold, the course was in great condition - and very difficult greens. Can't wait to try it again!
Extremely difficult and challenging
The course is in excellent shape for this time of year.It is extremely challenging and I plan to play it again.
