Situated between Richmond and Williamsburg, the Club at Viniterra sprawls across abundantly wooded hills. There is no shortage of elevation changes on this Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead-designed golf course. There is a difference of as much as 70 feet from the tee to the green on most of the holes. When combined with the mature trees, the result is a tough layout that demands accuracy. Thankfully though, there are not many water hazards to contend with but there is strategically placed bunkering throughout. The golf course also provides a scenic round with working vineyards running alongside the lush fairways. In addition to being challenging, the Club at Viniterra prides itself on their environmentally sensitive practices. The golf course saves as much as 80 percent of the water used on traditional courses thanks to the use of a drought-resistant grass hybrid.

Back in the game

I suggest you play from the green tees! This course is not a beginners course. It's a very challenging course. I enjoy playing very much. For the money it was very great. If your new beginner to golf in the past couple years I don't suggest the course. Be prepared to be humbled. If you're an experience golfer I suggest of course it's very challenging. It's beautiful and I had a wonderful time!

Hidden Gem

I love this course. I hope it survives; it seems that eventually homes will be built, but it's really in the middle of nowhere....so why build homes?

Love the course; I love Reese Jones courses and am happy this one is here...I almost had it to myself today.

Greens were nice, course is fun to play.

Challenging but very fair

Great course that I will come back to again. Challenging but fair, which is what I look for in a course. Course was in great condition and the greens rolled true, despite being kind of quick. The only downside was we picked a day that was hot as heck - but a nice breeze and ample shade helped.

The course plays long!!

The white t's are 6300 yards. This will be the longest 6300 yards you'll ever play. When the weather gets cool move to forward tees. Although the greens were aerated the course was in great shape. I will recommend and play this course again.

worth the drive

Richmond area lacks quality and value. Viniterra offers both at a short drive from the metro area. Course is challenging but fair to all levels of golfers.

Great Layout but course just aerated

Everything was good except for the aeration. Didn't find out until I booked and it was too late to cancel. Still made us pay for range balls and then rushed us out onto the course. Cart girls there are always the best!

Great Challenge

Overall, this course was extremely challenging. I had an admittedly off day, and would have played bad anywhere, but it was a difficult course. I enjoyed the views, and playability of it, even though I found only three greens, But, I was met at my car when I pulled up to the course with a golf cart!! I felt like I was respected unlike some other courses I've played recently. I'd like to come back when have a better day swinging the clubs to enjoy it more.

road trip gem

Rapid roundtrip NC to DC allowed me to stay in Richmond and get a early morning round in. 7:50am tee time made me first out and finish the round in 3.25 hours with no rush. As a 62 YO Male, I like the green tee option. Whites were distance challenging on most par 4's. Course is scenic in central Virginia wine country. Course was a bit ragged but still a good value for $35. Perfect for a road trip pleasure break.

Lond drive to course, longer cart ride between holess

Used GPS to locate course since it was my first time playing, poor signage to club house which is actually a trailer. Went to check in and staff at desk was let's say preoccupied w/ other things. Not very attentive to a first time visitor. Paid thru golf now and it seemed the person at desk was like what do you expect with paying a"hot deal." Guess that's why I was treated so poorly. Finally found my way to the first tee after driving thru the parking lot and was greeted by starter. He was nice. Course was in great condition and enjoyed the layout of each hole. Great scenic views on each hole driving off an elevated tee box. Would like to play again and hope the staff at trailer pro shop is a little more friendly.

Worth the drive

A Little southeast is a jewel in New Kent. Beautiful course next to the vineyards. Excellent condition , creative layout and a joy to play. Every hole is in its own private world. Creative, strategic challenge. Will play here often and hope to be back within the week .

Wow! You Gotta Play Here

I highly recommend this course. Booked it on a Hot Deal and so it was very good value for the money. It is suitable for average to scratch golfers as there are several sets of tee blocks. Check the yardages prior to starting to determine which set is most appropriate for you. Some of the fairways are sloped so you need to choose your landing spots carefully. There is some sand on the fairways and most greens are guarded by sand. Hone your sand shots before playing!
You don't want to miss this course.

Very Nice Golf Course

The Club at Viniterra is a really nice golf course. It's a little long, but a very fair course. It's also in great condition.

We got a hot deal on Golf Now and the reason was that they had a "Superintendent's Revenge" tournament for members that morning and the pins were in ridiculous places on the greens. We decided to play 2 putts max once on the green and that made it bearable. Be careful when a deal seems too good to be true!

All in all, we will be back. It's an outstanding golf course.

excellent golf experience

This is a very good golf course and a great value. Pace was a little slow at 4-1/2 hours and only 2 or 3 groups in front. But this is a challenging house that played longer than marked since most drives are into a slope --little roll on the drives. Greens were near perfect and I would love to play again.
