Nice layout, poor conditions
I played this course for the first time and I was impressed with the layout. Plenty of doglegs and contoured greens challenge your shot making abilities. The conditions on the course, on the other hand are pretty bad. There are a few quite a few greens that have bald sandy parts on then. I was really frustrating to hit a green and no be able to putt your ball because of the patches of sand on the greens. There are also a few sand traps where grass is growing, I believe this takes away from the layout of the course. I hope the management team brings this course to a level on par with its layout. It can be a really nice course.
a ways to go
They were trying to close this course down a couple years ago...Glad that it still exists. However, there is work to be done. Although greens may have been redone, there are large patches of gray dirt and unputtable areas. This course is a real nice design, and I prefer it to its neighbor, Stoneybrook East. As always, it comes down to money spent on maintenance...I beleive the course is worth the effort!
Eastwood - not back yet
I had heard Eastwood is on a come back with new greens so I thought I'd give it a try (and for $17 it's tough to beat). However, they're not back yet. The new greens rolled fast/true but several are already damaged and under repair (#7 is unplayable). Tee boxes and fairways need work and anything outside the fairways is in poor shape. They also increased & introduced new bunkers/waste areas that seem to be a solution to replacing grass; this will definitely slow play down. They also filled in several bunkers that haven't grown in yet. Overall I would wait before trying this course. I can't recommend playing this course at this time.
Course getting better each time . Greens r true and fast. Grounds need to start growing. Most grasses are dormant .
Eastwood is back
Eastwood is coming back and management is certainly putting money back into the course. Greens are all new and roll true, some still have work to do, but overall fantastic. They are working on the bunkers which still need some work, but progress is being made. For the money, this was a fantastic round! I will be back
Never mind the negative reviews. This is Orlando's hidden gem!
So, after years of reading negative reviews about this course, I finally mustered up the nerve to actually take the drive and go see and play it for myself, on the last day of 2017. To say that I'm glad that I did, would be the understatement of the year. I was actually blown away at how beautiful this course is, and the excellent courtesies extended by the staff, from the first contact to the last. This is the kind of customer service that you would expect at some of the more high-end, "high cotton" courses in the area. I was truly impressed. Kudos! But I digress. Let's talk about the course itself.
The general layout of the course is amazing and although it is under obvious repair, that did not detract in any way from its playability. Seeing all the wildlife and the natural forestry that bound the entire course, is truly welcomed, especially since it sits in a neighborhood and so close to the urban core. Expect to find fairways with their fair share of undulations and bordered with mounds and/or wooded areas, and interspersed with water with forced carries, which only adds to the challenge that the course presents. You have to actually strategize your play on almost every hole, and don't just grab your driver on every tee. Oh, and how could I forget the extreme dog-legged fairways. Did I say that this course offers challenges? The greens are definitely some of the better ones that I have played in a long time (some of them are obviously being repaired/improved on, so expect some temporary blemishes as far as that goes, but in a few months everything should be fine). Expect to find greens are firm, nice and fast, with a generous amount of breaks, ridges and slopes.
Last point: If you haven't yet or it might have been a while since, do yourself a favor and just go play this course and form your own opinion, you will most likely be a convert too. Disregard the negative reviews. Yes, improvements are afoot, and so I can just imagine how much more pristine this track will be in say, the spring of 2018, and on. The price on GolfNow makes it an even more compelling value. I went there as a solo player, but hooked up with two of the nicest gentlemen, Ottley [sp] and Warren, who seem to play this course a lot and know of its nuances and were kind enough to point them out to me, "thank you!". I will most definitely be a regular at Eastwood from now on, it is absolutely worth the drive!
Improvememts are very nice
Before playing here I read several negative reviews from earlier in the year. When we arrived I was told they just finished installing all new greens. Although the greens are still a little patchy, they should be great in a month or so. Putting was fine unless you end up behind a bare patch which has not yet filled in. Fairways were nicely mowed. First cut of rough was a little long in places (we found probably a half dozen balls in the rough on our round). Sand traps are still somewhat grown in, but you can tell they are really trying to bring the course back. Staff is super friendly. We’ll come back again for another round.
Poor condition
Who ever the people are that run the pro shop are probably part of the reason the course is in such poor, poor shape! The owners of the course would serve themselves to replace the help with more competent and customer friendly people!!!!!!!! I understood the greens were all replaced over the last 6 months but several are STILL in very poor shape.
Great track
It's been awhile since I played here because the greens needed help but i was very impressed this week past weekend. ..the putting surface is so much better. ..i will be back. ..theres still more repairs to be made but im glad finally they're finally putting the effort in ..its a great course. Thx
Frequent Player
Finally the owner is putting money into this course. Back nine greens are new and they are very nice. Front nine are new as well but still are about 2 months behind back nine greens. Driving range is average and now in good shape. This is great layout; I would recommend this as still a C course. However , in 2-3 months it should be worth playing. It was in such bad shape for so long they are having to over come dealing with weeds in rough and ant problems everywhere. But ole Eastwood is showing signs of life after 4-5 years of being a disaster.
Getting better
The course is getting better! The greens rolled nicely only hole 7 needs improvement! For the price and pace of play go for it!
Great weather and good golf outing!
This course is slowly coming back. Bunkers need more improvement. I always have fun playing this course. It is very long and challenging. Stay focus otherwise it will getcha! For sure to come back to play again soon!
Being worked on
The course is much better than last year. New greens and work being done on bunkers.
Ants on tee boxes & fairways.
It’s a pretty course, but they have a terrible ant problem. There patches where you could see red ant hills on the tee boxes. You have to look down when you walk on the fairways and tee boxes to avoid stepping on ant hills. Though l was very careful, l was still bit and had to leave the course after 8 holes.
