Course closing for housing development
Don't pay to play this course, it's being rundown ready for the bulldozers moving in!
Very poor
Club shop wasn’t open at 3:20 on Saturday afternoon - just plastic folder on wall with scorecards for you to take and find your way around. Course condition was appalling. Fairway hadn’t been mown recently, actually lost balls on fairway. Couldn’t tell the difference between fairway and rough on some holes. Very wet underfoot throughout. Tee areas in bad condition too - some yellow markers not there. Wouldn’t recommend despite the cheap prices. Punishes good shots. 8th Hole absolutely shocking, both players lost balls on fairway due to length of grass. No signage for guidance. Greens uneven, worse than pitch and putt courses.
Recent Golf Round.
Given the recent weather conditions, we managed to get decent round of golf. Some of the fairways were a little muddy under foot. Nonetheless most enjoyable.
Overpriced & poor condition
I have played Gatley a number of times, but today was the last straw.
The course is overpriced. It is not a £20 course, I have played at nicer courses for less. At best I would say it’s worth £15.
There is never any staff there to welcome you, pro shop is never open. The club house is sometimes closed, so good luck if you need the loo.
Let’s talk about the condition. Greens are patchy & mossy. They must not be cut regularly because sometimes the grass can be long.
But the condition on Sunday was ridiculous. Bunkers had water in, 2 greens were partly flooded which accounts for 4 holes as you play 9, twice.
And yet full price was still charge.
I will not be going back to Gatley.
Fine to keep the swing going
Glorified pitch and putt. Members I spoke too said it will be knocked down in couple years for housing development. Fine to keep swing going. Last few holes were challenging. The 17th was brutal. Could be fun if played in a 4 ball I just moved into area and didn’t fancy going to the range so decided to play 18 holes instead. 2 laps of 9
Great for plane spotters - and losing balls!
Rocked up an hour early and was able to go straight out. The golf course was a lot better than me. I lost 7 balls! I think apart from 2 holes, the back of every green is OOB. I enjoyed the golf though as the course was in pretty good condition for a club which is possibly on the wain.
Gateley golf course
The staff were very friendly and the course was in fine condition .really enjoyed the day.Mike.
Great course
Great old course and shame it will be closing soon. Play it while you can.
What a Shame
This used to be a great little course. But it’s mostly moss now and 2 of the 9 holes were closed.
It feels like the members are keeping it open to maximise the land sale value, which has been under negotiation for a few years now. Sad.
Good
I would give it a five stars and say brilliant but only 7 holes were open the best two holes is closed for no apparent reason
Bad day
Tried phoning the office no answer
There was only 14 holes open and 4 were winter greens
There was a lot of water on the course
So the ball was just blobbing in the mud
We decided to call it a day after 4 holes
Really disappointing that there was no one to contact
As I would have requested to play another day
Hope someone from Gatley will be in touch but doubt it
This course is good value for money
Very convenient as it's just next to where i live. It has some long and short holes, some easy some bit challenging
Interesting course poorly looked after
Pro shop and club house were both closed and the course is poorly sign posted for the confusing layout it has (have to go over the bridge to the first tee, then come back over to the 6th-9th) if it wasn't for a helpful chap with directions we'd of started on the 6th....
The layout is interesting and gives some challenges but poorly signed so the front nine was spent figuring out which tees were for what.
Abit of investment and passion would make this a great course
