Lakes course - lovely

The Lakes course at Longhirst is not unduly long, but every hole is a challenge with most lined by water in some shape or form. And the rough is fairly long too. Needless to say it pays to hit straight, easier said than done of course ! But, this is exactly how golf should be - you get punished for wayward shots and rewarded for keeping it straight, so often best to stick with an iron off the tee - a good course for the thinking golfer who likes a challenge. Course was in good condition and greens also mostly good and not too fast, or 'woolly'. I really enjoyed the round, despite losing a few balls, and will definitely come back for more 'punishment' !

Great quirky course

Played here lots over the years. Weather was great and enjoyed the course in the sunshine. Fairly easy start but once you get into the course it really tightens up, but remains really enjoyable as you have to play every shot in the bag. Then a long last few holes. The views at the top of 17 across the course are fantastic. Course was lush and green, and very very well presented. Nice pint of Guinness to finish. Top day.

Nice course but poor condition

Not played here for a while lake's course is challenging but fair...as long as you avoid the water (not easy for a high handicap 😁) Nicely laid out with a couple of holes that make you think rather than just smash it

Unfortunately the condition wasn't good especially for June. Tees needed work, fairways weren't bad but needed a cut and had long rye grass in places. Greens really poor for June bubbly inconsistent and GUR on 2 or 3 greens unacceptable and no sand in the bunkers

Very friendly club just wish it was in better condition

Unique track

Returned to the lakes at longhurst and had a treat of a day. Was cold and windy which made it more difficult, but the layout and course certainly took our mind of that. Course in nice condition and the greens running nicely. Tees and some areas were dry but considering the weather ok. The guy on desk was very friendly too. Will be back again in a few weeks.

Poor greens

I love the lakes and the Dawson but this is the first time I have played the lakes in over a year and did think the greens were poor. Overall the course is great though and I know greens can be maintained and repaired fairly easily.

Slowest pace of play ever

Walked off after 8 holes after travelling 50 minutes to play and ended up booking another tee time at another course., Never experienced a slower round in my life. Greens were very poor also

Dodgy greens

Greens are not in the best of condition and also people just seem to move between holes so we had to wait a couple times. Overall a good course and good challenges.

Hi Trev,

Looking at your booking, you played on a day where there was a morning frost, and greens had not been watered or cut because of that.

Please contact the club and we will send a courtesy round for you.

Typical winter course

Played here many times before, decent course and always playable in the winter. Nothing special but for the price can’t complain. All greens were on even tho not in the best of conditions. Would happily play again with no problems.
