Worth a visit
Whilst on Holiday, I decided to book a round on the Dawson course. To be honest I can't fault it. Good layout, greens lovely, all well managed and cut. Plenty of green keepers, staff friendly at reception. I enjoyed it so much, I've just booked the Lakes course for Thursday.
Very enjoyable round
Wonderful evening’s golf. Lovely round on a lovely course. Originally had a booking for the previous Sunday but when I got there the course was closed. Staff very apologetic and very helpful in getting me a replacement round. Weather had been a bit damp in the week but dried up for Thursday and stayed dry during round. Course in great nick and greens very smooth. Interesting requirement to avoid goose poo but that only adds to the character. Had a most enjoyable evening. I’ll be back
First Class Service
I’ve played at Longhirst a few times and it’s never let me down, great course with friendly staff and an excellent clubhouse. I played today (13/05/24) and the service I received was 10/10! I rang up requesting a buggy as I wanted to take my 80 year old grandfather out on course since he was a golfer but due to ill health can no longer play or walk properly. The staff in the clubhouse allowed him to go on course as a guest free of charge with a buggy and even allowed us to pick a tee time that was more suitable to us to accommodate for him and his limited mobility. Outstanding!
Great Course
Well maintained course especially considering the bad weather lately. Nice wide fairways making it forgiving for us big slicers.
Longhirst Dawson course
Booked late due to my course being closed due to storm babet. Course was in very good condition. Long walks inbetween tee boxes, walked 8700yds in total.
Highly recommend
Beautiful course
I will be looking at a membership, thoroughly enjoyed myself! Managed to go round with one of the members called Dave, top bloke and he ended up helping me to score my best round for a year! Looking forward to coming back
Lovely day despite the conditions
Love this course. Staff are fantastic and welcoming, members are nice and chatty. Had been heavy rain for a couple of days resulting in a couple of additional water features and course was quite heavy. Despite that a great day, greens in fantastic condition, fairways were grand. Have played this course before and will definitely play it again. Love it.
Prudhoe Golf Club Seniors Away Day
Some 40 golfers played at the Dawson Course. We had a package of coffee, bacon sarnie, 30 practice balls, a round of golf and a 2 course meal for £33.00, excellent value.
From Billy the assistant golf manager down to the catering staff the whole day was well managed. The course was in good condition and with temps in the mid 20s the weather also played its part.
Our past captain was so impressed he is taking his away day back there in 2024.
Thankyou to everyone at Longhirst, you did us proud

Seniors Chairman
We took 42 senior golfers to play the Longhirst Dawson course with a bacon sandwich and coffee to start, 18 holes on the Dawson and finished with a 2 course meal.
The organisation from the staff at Longhirst from booking the day to the day itself was fantastic. The course was on superb condition. (Hats off to the green keepers). Special thanks to Billy the assistant director of golf and to Pam and her staff for the wonderful food.
I would highly recommend playing at Longhirst.

Awesome
The Dawson course was beautifully maintained and provided a good test for our group which ranged from 2hcp to 25hcp. Friendly atmosphere in the clubhouse and well priced. Good practice area also.
Best course in the North East
Played the Dawson for the first time and it was fantastic. Condition, difficulty and facilities are top notch. Definitely be playing again.
Surprised by how good the course was.
Had heard poor reviews. Played in club match on 31st August and was so impressed that went back next day with partner and family. Will go back again for sure.
Plenty water
Great course very well set out
Quite testing as lots of well placed hazards
Only negative was the greens were quite slow and could of done with a cut but think that's just down to all the rain we've had
Definitely play here again
Can't Understand Other Negative Reviews
Course was in fantastic condition with greens rolling true. Friendly vibe in clubhouse and venue has great practice facilities if youre the sort who likes to warm up on the range or chipping green etc. They have two championship golf courses and yet only charge £18 for a guest. Unbeatable in the area in my opinion.
Good course but needs some maintenance
Good course with some interesting holes / some generic holes - will be easy for the long hitters but not so easy for us mere mortals - well worth a visit with some good scenery and wildlife on show in the wetlands around the park. Rating would have been 5 stars but for some very slow play over the first 9 holes that frustrated our group and the group behind us. Also the tee boxes and aprons / greens weren't in great condition - some of the aprons need re-seeding to sort out bare patches (a temporary ban on buggies might help restore some of the grass) and the greens need some attention to get rid of pock marks and worm casts which made putting a bit of a lottery. Distance pegs that appear to have been buried in small pits on some of the tee boxes are odd and are a nuisance in some instances.
Ruined by overcrowding.
Our game was ruined by there being far too many players on the course. From the 3rd tee onwards we waited on every tee. From the 9th hole there were 2 groups waiting on the tees. We were caught up by a 4 ball who seemed to enjoy hitting balls at us. 8 minutes tee times is ridiculous on a course that busy. We walked off from the 16th tee.
The course itself is good with wide fairways but if you do go into the rough it's long and you probably won't find your ball. There is plenty of ball collecting lakes as well. The online cost of £18 is very attractive and if you don't mind taking forever to play your round then go for it. Personally it's not for us.
Hi u277826520, I am a member at this club and ive got to say your review is somewhat unfair it makes no sense to rate a course 1 star due to slowplay you probably just got unlucky with the particular day and time on which you played - Usually things are nice and relaxed out on course.
