Poor Greens
The greens on the Dawson Course are in a very poor condition. They are very bumpy and uneven.
Good course slightly spoiled by slow play
Course in very good condition at the moment - our game was slightly spoiled by slow play up ahead which added circa 30 minutes to our round but it gave us a chance to stand and admire the scenery and wildlife. Note that lots of birds are currently nesting and will soon have young ones - please bear this is mind when hunting for balls especially if near any of the wetland areas - if any of the geese come pestering for food just clearly tell them that you have nothing for them and believe it or not they will actually go away!
Wide fairways
First time playing here , the course was in good condition , found the layout good , will come back again , and I would recommend to my friends .
Lovely course
Pace was a tad slow, but I was playing solo. The club captain was playing behind me and caught up, so joined me for the rest of the round. Lovely guy. Cheers Dave!
Boggy slog with additional costs
We turned up ahead of our tee time to discover our electric caddy’s weren’t welcome without the addition of some spikes for them which, cost £25 each from the pro shop. Two staff were in the pro shop but neither of them offered assistance in fitting said additions.
We then managed to get going 20 minutes after our tee time due to the delay in struggling with fitting these which, saw us behind people for the duration of the game, as well as people behind us the whole way.
The drives were plugging from fairway shots so, finding your ball was a difficulty, but at least the fairways were still in play for this time of year.
Make sure you have waterproofs as fabric shoes or cotton trousers will be destroyed with squelchy underfoot and shot splash back.
The breakfast baps were great though and the Heineken in cold glasses even better.
Really gone down hill
I get its winter but the greens were shocking. Really patchy and bobbles all over! Pitch marks all over not repair, didn’t look like they’d be done in months!
Course should not have been open…. Fairways were flooded badly! Such a good course and love the layout but really going backwards!
Slow Play
Ive played both courses now and both times have had to walk off due to intolerable slow play ahead of me and no suggestion of allowingme to play through. Also the winter tees are just random markers in uncut areas.
Grand day out
Beautiful autumn day - not a breath of wind, lovely colours in the trees and course in great condition. Greens were fantastic. Pace of play was fine. Staff really friendly and helpful as always. Love this course and this round just perfect.
After all the rain I was expecting the course to be really wet underfoot but the course was in very good condition and the greens were excellent.
Great Condition
The course was in great condition. Some of the greenest greens I’ve seen.
It has some challenging holes, which does hold up play sometimes but I’ll definitely be back.
Another grand day out at Longhirst
Great value for money, course in wonderful condition and really well looked after. Was very lucky with the weather, lovely and sunny and very little wind. The 13th and 14th are lovely holes but I mess them up every time I play here. Folks in the clubhouse before and after very friendly and very welcoming. Loved it
Brilliant
Friendly staff, Course was immaculate even after the rain the night before. Found the greens to be quite fast. Same if not better quality you would pay 2 or 3 times more to play at other courses.
Top quality
A top quality course in fantastic condition. Nice wide fairways and big greens, of which were running very fast and true. There was quite a bit of water on the back 9, which was surprising given we played the Dawson, I'd hate to know how much water was on the aptly named lakes course by comparison. I was suprised to learn the course was only established in 1997, I'm going to keep an eye on this place as it will only get better the more mature it gets. Can't wait to play it again.
Good course, not so good performance
All good. Slight hold ups on a few tee boxes but nothing serious.
Rough pretty thick, so more lost balls than expected, even just running off the fairway a foot or two.
But overall everything looking nice .
Hi Lee
Sorry you appeared to encounter some problems with your winter wheels. The booking on BRS/GolfNow does have a tick box to ensure golfers are aware of the winter wheels policy before booking and playing. Hope this has not deterred a future visit.
