1st time
1st time ive played in 10 years course nice n wide keep me out of the rouge. I book again now i know the layout.
Worth the visit
NUFC have taken some pelters for their condition in the rough winter and spring we've had, so thought it's only fair I write a positive one!
Course looking great and the greens on the majority were absolutely brilliant.
For the price, I think in the dry and hot conditions this is a decent course!
Newcastle united like a links
It's a challenging 18 hole some holes are long for average golfer 4 long par fives and some long par fours and nice par 3. The rough has been cut right back so the fairways are easy to hit The greens are superb quite fast. It's like an inland links course. Hard but very enjoyable
Lovely Greens
We played the course after torrential rain overnight but course was in good condition. If you missed fairways and hit rough it was deep and even in first cut the ball sat down.
The greens were very good and faster than they looked. All in all we had an enjoyable experience and would go back again.
It did the job
The course was still wet in places, which makes it difficult, the rough is a nightmare, slightest off fairway, ball lost,
Biggest issue, playing behind a very slow 4 ball, wouldnt let us through as a 2 ball, spent most of the time on the tee box watching them in the rough, rude, did not even say hello, did the job but wont be returning back sorry.
Worst Golf Course I Have Ever Played
What a shocking golf course. Woke up Saturday morning with the excitement of playing golf in the sun. To turn up to this course with nothing but poorly cut grass, the sandiest greens and overgrown tee boxes. You would think that someone would have fancied cutting the grass over the bank holiday when the weather was nice in anticipation to enjoy some golf the following week, in the sun. Not to mention the thickest rough known to man. If you want to ruin your Saturday afternoon make sure you buy 20 packs of balls to go with it.
captains drive in
Newcastle united golf club should not have been open ......... water lying on the course , knee deep in mud, , bunkers full of water,,, the greens looks like treatment had started and abandoned. i have played at my course Ryton today it was like Augusta compared to Newcastle united.
What used to be a good course….
It’s a shame to see the state that Newcastle United Golf Club is in right now. I’ve always liked playing up there the odd couple of times in previous years but I think this will be my last visit for a while. I understand that weather plays its part and the weather so far this year has been terrible but the course is generally ran down. All bunkers GUR and baldy greens. Losing balls on the fairway due to it not being cut down and or balls plugging in sodden patches all over the course. Unable to ring bells on holes due to snapped instrument. There was also a temporary green on which we weren’t informed of nor was there any info on website or course conditions when ringing up to book. All in all I feel robbed of £20 to be honest and it’s such a shame as it was once a lovely inland links course to play.
Great course
Considering the weather recently, the course was in fantastic condition. Playing there again next week 🙌🏻
Not the course, the members
Played on a Saturday and got stuck behind the competition. I know they don’t have to let you through but when they’re taking average 10 shots per hole there needs to be consideration for other golfers. Also, you can’t go off the course for 10 mins after the 9th and then expect me to wait. 4hrs for a 2 ball on a reduced length course.
Course was ok but still recovering from the weather and was worth what was paid
Should not be open
Played today having booked 18 holes via golf now. Turned up to find only 13 holes were open due to waterlogging but we could still use trollies (WHY?). All of the front 9 were open but we needed chest waders and wellies just to walk up the fairways. Every shot plugged into the slop even on the greens. The 90° rule applied and had to play from the rough but the fairways were that long in length you couldnt define what was the rough and what was the fairway.
Very straight and very flat, not challenging.
Good Friday
Decent condition for the weather we’ve had recently, friendly staff . 4 holes not playable and a bit boggy on certain fairways. Expected for winter golf. Good day out with mates
Water logged course
Course should not be open, too much water on too many holes. 4 holes closed but nothing stated during booking process, too many other holes were impassable. no course map and navigating the holes was not always obvious. Fairways cut too long (expected because of the standing water). The course has very few obstacles, most holes are simply open straight fairways to a green. Staff in the shop were great, very friendly. Played front 9 and then gave up with muddy trousers and blistered toes. Cheaper courses in the area are a much better standard.
Windy
Wind was the main thing when we played. Nothing anyone could do about the weather but it spoiled the round. Lovely to play proper greens at this time of year, fairways were OK if a bit wet.
Value for money
This course has always been value for money, excellent course and brilliant greens for a little over £10 a round.
Course was better than expected during the middle of January with only two temporary greens through 18.
Summer Course
I’ve played here many a time through the summer and it’s a great little course to play with good weather with a few challenging holes.
However I played for the first time in the winter here and I walked off after 9 (only 12 holes were open anyway) the course should have been closed. I understand winter golf is usually poor in the UK but this was terrible. Not a single green open, par 5’s reduced to distances of short par 4’s, fairways entirely water logged. GUR’s were literally just a hole dug out of the fairway. Wasted my time entirely playing, should have gone to a range.
Staff were very friendly though
