Romanby Golf & Country Club

Romanby is a beautiful challenging course and a pleasure to play.

Only criticism was a number of the tee boxes were very poor and the front on bunker on the 18th was like a rock quarry.

Fairways and greens where in good condition but the Tee boxes need some attention, grass was sparse and bare on many of the Tee boxes.

Some of the bunkers had really good sand in but some looked like they had been filled with builders sand and had loads of small stones and pebbles in.

A challenging course, hillier than you might expect in the Vale of Mowbray. Some really well designed holes.

A big thank you to the pro shop for accommodating us even though the course was busy, when we were 20 minutes late for our tee time due to roadworks.

Course overall good however tee box’s poor and pace of play poor

Played a few times at Romanby. Course is well laid out, plenty of room between fairways and tees/greens so you never feel the course is squashed together. Greens are mostly featureless and in ok condition.

Played this course after heavy rain, and I must say the ground staff worked wonders to keep the greens and fairways in great condition. Members and staff were really friendly and our four all group had a great experience

Longish course with some challenging holes particularly those involving water. Course was in very good condition only let down by the slow greens (wet and grassy). Pace of play was slowish because of a slow gents 3 ball not letting people through but still made it round in under 4 hours (weekday).

This was our first visit for over a year because of the pandemic and the course was in lovely condition. Romanby is a good challenge for us and the 11th is particularly scary. The greens were in good condition and the ball rolled well even though in April they are not at their fastest. We always enjoy playing the course but the only criticism we have is that there are no distance markers ( ie 150 yard posts ) that are clearly visible from all parts of the fairway. The only markers are the discs laid in the turf (200, 150 and 100 yards) of the centre line of the fairway and even those were in poor condition with paint peeling and grass over growing them and you only see them when you walk directly over them. Some simple marker posts at the side of the fairway would improve this situation immeasurably.

Great test of golf, lovely course. A little slow but there was a society in front of us and a club official actually asked them to speed up, still completed round in 4 hours so no issue. Greens were a little slow but still early in the year.

Staff were friendly and we’re very good with us considering ten mins late. Well presented course with some challenging sections but overall a great course and good people running. Looking forward to when all of its amenities are open as it is an impressive place. Will visit again
