Really good course

First time I have played Romanby and certainly won’t be the last. Really enjoyed the course, a great variety of holes. Some long and difficult, some shortish par 4’s, a brilliant par 3 over a lake, this has it all. Fairways are fairly wide and forgiving, greens nice to putt on and quite slow. Only negative was pace of play a tad slow but the club pro did give me a heads up about this when I arrived as he said there were quite a few seniors and women out on the course that day (possibly ladies day on Thursdays?). Would highly recommend this course, one of favourites in the area

It's okay, no more

Nice location, nice clubhouse and patio area, staff very friendly, course is very average and bland. The course is not bad, condition is good, holes are a good mixture of lengths etc, it just is not that great. It is a course designed to be friendly to an average golfer and that means it just does not challenge. If you are starting out then it is probably ideal but if you are a regular golfer then there are better options.

Slow at Romanby

Very nice parkland course in pleasant rural setting with some changes in elevation and water to keep things interesting. Very good club house, pro shop and car park. The course plays its full 6,700 yards and it’s very difficult to make par on some holes – the par 3 11th is especially challenging as it plays over water onto a relatively small green with no obvious bail out area – my first attempt came up short in the drink! Course maintenance is slightly old fashioned with relatively long grass on tee boxes and fairways – tee shots and intermediate fairway shots tend to pull up very quickly with little run out. Negative aspect of our round was extremely slow play which added circa 50 mins to the round and had our party and two parties behind us stood on almost every hole waiting to play – also some significant course maintenance that could have been done during lock down is underway now – rating would have been 5 stars if speed of play had been more realistic and all areas were in play.

Beautiful course

Romanby is a beautiful challenging course and a pleasure to play.

Only criticism was a number of the tee boxes were very poor and the front on bunker on the 18th was like a rock quarry.

Romanby Golf in June

Fairways and greens where in good condition but the Tee boxes need some attention, grass was sparse and bare on many of the Tee boxes.

Some of the bunkers had really good sand in but some looked like they had been filled with builders sand and had loads of small stones and pebbles in.

Thumbs up to the pro shop staff

A challenging course, hillier than you might expect in the Vale of Mowbray. Some really well designed holes.

A big thank you to the pro shop for accommodating us even though the course was busy, when we were 20 minutes late for our tee time due to roadworks.

Would definitely recommend

Good Parkland Course

Played a few times at Romanby. Course is well laid out, plenty of room between fairways and tees/greens so you never feel the course is squashed together. Greens are mostly featureless and in ok condition.
