Thoroughly enjoyed it

Three of us all had a great winter round of golf. The views were lovely and the course was nice. Most of the summer greens were on and in good condition for the time of year. Some of the tees were very forward and a couple of par 4s were playing as par 3s, which we all felt was fair enough for the time of year and weather leading up to our round. Good course, I’d be happy to go back.

First time

Played this for first time and found the course to be a good layout. Would like to see more trees planted to mark the fairways and suck up surface water. Some matting needed in places on the mucky hills. Winter greens and tee boxes but enjoyed the day and scenery is great. Can't comment on staff as clubhouse shut due to covid. Will return again soon

Rothbury flooded!

Unfortunately our round was cancelled due to flooding - the club gave advance notice via their web-site and text message service so no time was wasted travelling. However, I have rated the course based upon recent past experience - the front 9 are a bit hilly and tricky in places - overall the course is a pleasure to play and is reasonably priced. The only difficulty is pace of play which is sometimes slow due to the popularity of the course with locals and visitors. Also some investment would probably benefit the club over the medium to long term - especially installation of some effective drainage to turn the course into a more playable venue during the winter months.

Check before booking

Nice course, however when I turned up I was informed the front 9 were closed due to water and to just play the back 9 twice. I ended up playing with a couple of members who said this was a fairly regular thing. So ring before booking. The back 9 were nice however!

First visit

Lovely friendly welcome from a lady who kindly informed us that the course was quiet and if we were ready we could tee off earlier. Lovely views. Weather damaged small areas but what do you expect from the middle of October. Will definitely return

Excellent

First time I visited this course and will certainly be visiting again. The staff were friendly and helpful. The course was well maintained despite the heavy rain fall.

If it were a little closer to home, I'd become a member.

Decent golf course

We enjoyed playing this course, was in excellent condition. Small greens though and a few blind shots. Bit hilly but fine for walking.

Staff in clubhouse were great and given a few tips about the course. They were fully compliant with a Covid restrictions, with social distancing being adhered to.

All in all a nice place to play and when we return, will know the course better, especially 10th, where you need to aim for the yellow marker behind the green.

Excellent round

This course is what I can best describe as Covid friendly. Has a one way system in the clubhouse, very friendly helpful staff.

Two lovely ladies playing behind us were brilliant they pointed out the device fitted to the flag to stop you having to touch it to remove the ball after putting. Great idea to reduce contact.

Everyone we met there were friendly and helpful.

Would 100% go back.

We didn’t have time but I was told the homemade cheese scones there are incredible, must admit the food did smell very good.

Superb

This was my first time playing Rothbury and I have to say it was superb!

The course layout really made us have to think about where to place our shots and the greens were very tricky, which made myself and 2 other players having to concentrate a bit more than expected!

We loved it that much were booked in again for next week!

The staff were also very welcoming and friendly!

Rothbury Review

We3ather was very poor at original tee time so called the club and asked if we could move it too later in the day which they did.

Both players are novices and scored 94 and 99 views are spectacular and staff were fantastic.

The Weather was a spoiler

Difficult to form an opinion on such a wet day.

The small tricky greens, most of which were designed like upturned saucers were fairly quick despite the incessant rain, and bunkers all maker GUR on the day of our visit.

The quirky course was generally neat and tidy.
