Surrey Downs Golf Club

Everytime I play at this course, it seems to always be slow. I played a few weeks back with the same issue.

We played a 2ball, and were behind another two 2 balls.

When we booked our 2ball, we left the 2 other spaces free on GOLFNOW obviously, and when we turned up, there was a 3ball waiting there! Not sure how they managed to do that but they let us play first which was the right thing to do!

We eventually caught up the 2 balls after maybe 4holes that started a hole 40mins before us! So should have been well clear of us.

They weren’t in competition but they were playing off the white tees. Now I’m not one to judge, But these two fellas shouldn’t have been playing off the whites, I’m not even sure they could handle the yellows, one looked like he had never played. They didn’t let us play through or even suggest that we could. Just made us wait.

This is a recurring theme at this golf club, too much pride and not letting others through. I eventually ended up a one ball as my playing partner had a bad back and didn’t want to risk it. So from hole 10, I played alone. And they still wouldn’t let me play through! I spent the next 9 holes waiting for them to hack it up the fairway. Surrey downs must start sending out marshals to sort this out.

On a plus, the course is still in great shape for all the rain we’ve had.

Paid £50 per head and the general opinion of the 4 ball was this course was not value for money,

Quite a few uninspiring holes and I know that we have had some serious amounts of rain but the bunkers were awful with a number of them GUR with grass growing in them and many with literally no sand in them at all.

The greens were in decent condition with some interesting slopes.

Fair to say we will not be returning here

Since the drainage modifications were made, this course has been consistently good to play. Greens were very true and all other areas of the course were very well maintained. A pleasure to play!

Very nice course at a very reasonable rate for a late booking. Would recommend!

I was shocked the green fee was only £40 after 2 pm the buggy was 38 lol

Nice course set in surreys sweeping hills with some good vistas. Greens were in good condition. Price was good. Just felt the course was quite open and not many challenges so slightly dull on this aspect. Fairways needed a cut. Nice bar.

A friend and I met half way for a round and my ratings may seem a bit harsh however I am basing it off of the rather steep green fee. We thought we’d give it a go as neither of us had played here before and pictures looked good.

The course layout was nice a few boring holes, the greens were true and in fairly good condition and time to get round was also good. Sign posts hole to hole could be useful and annoying we were told to get tokens at the range to then be told we can only receive tokens at the shop.

However, there was no water in any of the tried 5 ball cleaner facilities round the course, the tee boxes were scruffy, full of divots / holes etc. and just lacked a bit of TLC all round. 2/5 may seem harsh but £57.50 is a ridiculous price to charge. £30 tops is all it is worth and we will look elsewhere in the area to play next time.

First time playing this course, I enjoyed it and shot a good round. Grass was in good conditions and greens were nice. Bunkers could do with some better sand and when we caught up to a bottle neck near the end it was painfully slow. Think there was a comp or something on. Enjoyable round still

Surrey Downs is a hidden gem. It really is a great course with undulating greens, testing holes and playing positional shots so you can attack flags is key. Great Bar and course is in very good condition

Good conditions on the course, greens and fairways all in good shape. Nice wide fairways helped though the long grass rough was penal. Very nice views of the Surrey downs and it was good that each hole was numbered and identified as was the directions to the next hole if not next to the previous green. All in all an enjoyable days play.

Great course play was slow but excellent condition, greens were a little slow. But overall a great round of golf

Tees, Greens and fairways in good nick for Feb. Open but challenging.

Booked.a last minute hot deal tee off time. For what we paid it was an amazing course. Conditions were great even after rain over last few days.

Course is pretty forgiving with wide fairways.

Club house looks good, although when we finished at 5.30ish, they were not serving anymore.

Would suggest that holes are numbered as first timers will not know course.

Would def go again.

Playing on a Sunday with decent weather so packed with people.

Little muddy, nice design little course.

I suggest to play this place.

The course is quite varied and offers a lot of challenge, playing long and tight fairways mostly. The greens were in excellent condition, the course well drained and the grass well tended. Overall excellent.
