Most enjoyable course
I have played this course quite a few times and I think the variety of holes plus the gorgeous views make this course an absolute pleasure.
Slow play
Played here a few times now as it’s very local, but this is the first time I’ve walked off a course after 6 holes due to slow play. I teed off at 4pm on my own and quickly caught up with a 3 ball on the 2nd hole it took me 50 mins to play the first 4 holes. On every tee box the group in front would look behind and notice me but wouldn’t wave me through by time I got to the 6th I’d had enough and walked off. I don’t think these where members as I played there before and felt welcome around the course. Clearly the summer is here and everyone is out playing but maybe a Marshall should be used to help speed things up or get a single player played through. A waste of £35 on my part.
Great greens, tight fairways
What seems at first a relatively open course, it soon transpires that you have to keep your ball on the fairway as the rough is penal and very likely you will lose your ball being just a yard or so off…! However the fairways were well kept, greens amazing. Bunkers were quite thin with lots of stones, so you have to be careful not to get a flyer. Club house nice, good menu and drinks. Will go back, good value.
Has potential but needs work
Very challenging, very firm, fast, true greens, with the course overall in good condition other than the rocks that line the bunkers which REALLY needs addressing. One huge aspect that lets the course down is the lack of pretty much any signage whatsoever, including tee box markers with hole layout, yardages etc. A little effort in addressing this would go a long way. Similarly, an on course halfway house for a drink / sausage roll would improve the experience largely - an old shed with smashed up windows sits where a small one may have been in past years.
Very mixed feelings for what could be so much better
Surrey Hills
Thoroughly enjoyed my round and found the course in good condition
Waste of money
What should have been an enjoyable round of golf in the sun turned into a frustrating waste of time and money
We came off after 15 holes which had taken nearly 4.5 hours . When we got to the 16th there was a 4 ball on the green another waiting to tee off and a 3 ball behind them
It was obvious that a 10 min gap between tee times was not sufficient but cramping as many players into the day seemed to be the way
Worth a trip
£24 hot deal on Golf Now. 2.50pm tee. Good fast greens, tough pins (day before Jubilee BH comps?), good nick. Good layout, pretty open, good views.
Sunny day helped, even had a beer on the Verandah (Doom Bar). All good.
Little gem
Greens roll fast and true, beautiful and scenic golf course, could do with a bit more signage to identify holes.
Really rally nice course I will be back I did have a stormer and score 40 points bit I was putting like a machine.
Par 3 16th is a beast I hit 3 Wood and was still just short.
Would recommend to anyone
Surrey Downs
Nice and quiet. The rough is surprisingly vicious and we both lost balls we thought we would find. We were disappointed with the layout which was rather sprawling. We also found many of the holes rather samey. But condition was fine and the course really let you open your shoulders.
It's alright but only worth the hot deals
It's a good course. Almost feels linksy. Greens were pretty tricky which is great. The front nine was Def cared for more than the back nine. Would go back for a post work hack.
Best course in the area
The best course I’ve ever played. It’s perfect, the layout is just right, challenging enough but if you’re off to a bad start then it’s not all lost. The views are beautiful. The fairways are lush and the rough is challenging but well maintained. The greens were pure and fast the first time I played but despite being heavily sanded this time they were still decent. Not one hole I didn’t enjoy. It’s the perfect course and definitely recommend
Great setup
Course was not in the best condition due to a weeks worth of rain however we were well aware of this when we booked, absolutely not the fault of the club. Pace of play was not great however, a good 2/3 minute wait at every tee made for a very long round of golf, could maybe space out the tee times an extra 3-5 mins perhaps. Other than that it’s a lovely place with great staff and a very visitor-friendly club.
Fair price for time off year and course
Got straight onto the course with no problems but wasn’t happy that Golf now/pass decided to pair me up with someone else. Luckily I got out on my own course condition was fair for time off year. I know it it improves here in the summer so will be going back as I live local. Greens were quite bad around the flags with foot prints again bunkers are poor fairways ok tee boxes average for this time off year.
Great course worth a visit
Great course, friendly design. Greens are fast and undulating. Really good value for money.
We played in the winter. Fairways, light rough and greens were all churned up and in need of a cut.
The course was quite empty, but as soon as we set off, we immediately had a couple of pairs behind us who clearly knew the course and seemed to want to rush round. We sometimes found it difficult to find the next tee, which slowed us up a bit, but we still went round in 3hrs45, which I don't think is unreasonable. I didn't feel welcome as a first time visitor - though this is a comment about the other players rather than the staff, who were helpful.
