Golfer Reviews
Don't bother
This is my local course and I've played it between 20-30 times total as I live just up the street. I'm disappointed to say that I'm done with this place.
The course layout is fun and on the shorter side yet fairly challenging on the front. Unfortunately the conditions are perpetually awful despite the constant construction that's been going for years. To be fair, it's just inexpensive enough to stay on the lowest end of cost for Bay Area courses, right there with Chabot, so I don't expect it to be amazing. Shoreline and Franklin Canyon may edge this out as the worst course conditions in the Bay Area but this is close. Funny enough, I just found out that all of these courses I'm mentioning are managed by Touchstone Golf.
In addition to poor course conditions, Redwood always has a slow pace of play unless it's super twilight and totally empty. Probably because they have no starter, no PA announcements or organization, no marshall out on the course. Also no beverage cart. Considering the shop is always staffed with drowsy teenagers that I assume make minimum wage, it's pretty clear that management for this place is just dirt cheap and don't want to pay for any decent amenities you expect at a golf course.
Customer service here is non-existent. Like I said, I've played here many, many times and I've never once seen an actual adult working in the shop.
Last week I hop over to hit a bucket and they tell me they're not giving out balls as they're saving them for a youth camp the next morning. Alright, that's cool I suppose but I'm trying to get some practice in. Should I go to a different course? I ask for the next solo tee time instead. You'd think they'd be like "sorry about the driving range, we'll take off 15%" or "the cart fee is on us". Some sort of gesture to say "yes, we do in fact want some money from you, our range is off the table so let's work something out to make that happen."
Next day they send me an email that says free medium range bucket if you do their survey. Great! I didn't get to work on my driver yesterday, a free bucket would be nice to go back and get in the session in. Spend 30 minutes answering each question in earnest, because I'd like this place to be better. No follow up with the free bucket, nothing from management, no response at all.
This week I go over again after work and they tell me that the driving range shuts down at 7pm. Since when? And more importantly, why? It's mid July buddy, the sun doesn't even set for another hour and a half. This is at 6:56 of course, so not actually 7pm yet. Then he tells me it's because he has guys going out to collect the balls and doesn't want them to get hit. Understandable when you send kids out with no protection to scoop up balls.
Done with them. It's so close by for me but there are way too many golf courses around for me to keep trying to make this pretend course work.

Fairways Burnt Out
Tee boxes and greens are ok to good.
But the fairways are already burnt out, with still 3-4 months to go in our dry season. Difficult to find grass from which to hit even in middle of fairway.
Thank you for taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass along your feedback to the staff so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting us!
Go Somewhere Else...Unless $28 is your Top
First off, it's $28 to Walk after 2pm this time of year...so, if Value is your main criteria by all means, take a look at Redwood Canyon.
Dirt. Dusty. Dry. Dead Grass. Gophers. Travesty would best describe the course conditions. Three times drives into the fairway were discovered to have rolled up on top of a gopher mound...??? Other times, bare dirt spots, even the occasional sand patch...? We're not talking divot repair patch here...we're talking 2' x 3' SAND PATCH. Tee boxes...sheesh...
Fairways are narrow...no biggie, but with the creek running down the right on most holes on the Front 9, even a baby fade is gonna find the jungle...and I mean jungle. I must've lost 4 balls on the Front 9 that faded a bit, landed in the rock-hard fairway and bounced/rolled into the Jungle Creek.
Greens are green, slow, a tad spongy...but very well maintained, as is the cut of rough surrounding the greens and green-side bunkers
Overall, a fun time...but then again, Golf is Fun. For $28, this is the Place for You. If you want a course in good condition where Grass, Dirt & Sand have their proper places, and you're willing to shell out more than $28, Go Somewhere Else...
Thank You for the round, Redwood Canyon...once is enough for me.
Thank you for your review! We apologize that our conditions didn't meet your expectations. We're currently working on improving our course. We have installed a new irrigation system on hole 1-7 and plan on doing more improvements. We appreciate your feedback and hope you'll give us another try in the future.

nice layout,poor condition
last time I was here they were working on drainage and plumbing, so I was surprised the fairway condition was the worst I have ever seen here in the summer after all that work. greens were ok
Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. We will make note and we hope to see you back!
SLOW PLAY!
This course overbooks by double and has no Marshall to speed up players being intentionally slow. Tried to play today and just gave up by the 11th hole.
Thank you for your review! We apologize that you didn't enjoy your round with us due to the pace of play. We have updated our tee time intervals to be 10 minutes apart to help with demand and pace of play. We are also looking to bring on new marshals as well. We appreciate your feedback and hope you'll give us another try in the future.
Fair
Three or four party groups slowed the phase down.. a single (Slow) player allowed to play between two groups of four players.
Nice clean carts and service was great.
No one was monitoring the starting tee box. No PA announcements of who’s next on the starting tee

Borderline Ghetto
I have played here 4 or 5 times this year and as the weather is drying up the course and so is the condition.
The only thing decent are the greens and they look as they will soon go downhill. There are ruts all over the fairways and the tee boxes need more attention as they don't have any grass left just sand.
The course is always busy with the Pandemic so hire somebody that cares..Get some summer workers and Reinvest to preserve the place. You have a gem just show some love.
Thank you for your review! We apologize that our course conditions didn't meet your expectations. We've had a lot of maintenance projects going on and we continue to make improvements to our course every day. It is a process, so we appreciate your patience during this time. We will use your review to help us moving forward. Thank you again and we hope you'll give us another try in the future!

Good course to play
The wild life on the course made it a pleasure to be out there and enjoy a nice evening playing golf.

Good course
Basically each hole plays pretty short in yardage which could be good or bad on how you look at it. (Playing from the white tees) great begging course and a pretty good novice course
Awesome! We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Redwood Canyon Golf Course.
Fun course to play
This is a course with two different nines. The front is tight and usually plays into the wind Most days. The back nine opens up but is windier. Overall the course conditions are okay, greens are small and crowned so shots will stop on the upslope and run off the backs. The cart paths are mostly dirt so it gets dusty and they are pretty rough in terms of bumpiness. Fairways are okay for the most part, just have a few bare spots.

Day at the course
Had a good day at the course. Got paired with two members who could not have been better. Ric and Troy guided me around like a school teacher. This course is target golf. It didn't fit my eye most holes. Had to trust the advice given. Greens were in good shape. Fairways were just ok. Worth a go.

Worst golf experience of my life.
15 minute wait at every hole. Not the fault of the group in front of us, it was stacked in front of them. 3 groups on every hole. I quit after 4 hours while waiting on the 11th tee box. Polish dog on the turn was somehow burnt to a crisp, even though it was held in a steam box. Cart wouldn't drive straight. Random deep puddles in the fairway. Will never be back.
Thank you for your review! We apologize that you didn't enjoy your experience with us. We've made significant improvements and changes to our operations where we feel we can provide a better service than your last experience. We're now at 10 minute intervals and have more spaces available. We appreciate your feedback and will use your review to help us to continue to improve. We are looking to bring on new marshals as well. Regarding the driving range, our system is different than any other golf course because of the water landing area. We have to pick every golf ball by hand. Also, with COVID-19, we have to sanitize everything. So we are not operating at a normal procedure. Safety is our #1 priority. We appreciate your feedback and hope you'll give us another try in the future.
