Fun low budget golf

Fun course, tight, short, kinda beat up, a tad shabby, but character abounds. Conditions not he best but they did give us $10 off for the aerated greens.

Play it at least once if you like muni style east bay golf.

Worst Pace Ever

Saw no course marshall the entire time. Took us 5.5 hours to play 18. Called the clubhouse and they sent out two teenagers - pace of play never improved. Guy in the pro shop said the course is under new management -- I certainly hope this is just a byproduct of the transition.

Good scenery but poor fairway

The course in the valley with good scenery but the fairway is in bad condition. The fairway grass is not well cut.

Back in Time!

I've played here since the 60,s
Course has so much potential. Right management
could do wonders ! Excellent layout. Facilities are a diamond in the rough. Could draw lots of tournaments
as in the past. Need kitchen to be available for breakfast etc. opens at 11am! Way too late ! Old school course! Love it!!

1 Bad Day

Casper 98 made some good points.
Due to the frost... the course could not be groomed.
Shots in the fairway were lost in the grass.
Due to the frost... Everyone started on 10 and finished on 9.
That meant we were hitting into the sun most of the day.
I've golfed here many times before and loved it.
But the biggest problem that day was the service. Some young kids running the pro-shop had no problem solving skills. They claimed to be "following policy"... yet they sent a 5 some of
beginning golfers in front of everyone at 10:00 am. They were playing at a 6 hour pace... and the course marshal (another kid) was unable to speed them up.
Willow Park IS a pretty course with lots of Deer.
This 1 bad day was the exception and not the rule.
The kids running the pro-shop that day have probably been fired already. Give them another chance when the weather improves.

really guys

The course is in horrible shape. The grass was not cut on the fairways so we would lose balls on the fairways. Drainage was nonexistent. Mud everywhere. The biggest irk was the staff letting a 5 some and a 6 some play. The round took almost 6 hours. Ridiculous!

Won't go anytime soon.

Enjoyable round

The course is not fancy, but quite playable. Lots of dog-legs to keep it interesting. Fairways are not too wide, nor narrow. I found too many tree but that was entirely my doing. Greens are in decent conditions despite all the fall leaves. Not too crowded although there was a pile-up at the start, so we asked and were given permission to tee off from the tenth.

Although not long require the ability to make shots. Strong iron players will love this course.

If you like playing under natural conditions woods this is your type of course. Deer running about beautiful forested views add to the allure. It is truly unfortunate California has been deprived of rain as more of this course would come alive. Without the rain some of the ambience and natural beauty has been lost. There are now too many over used rain deprived barren areas.

quiet, secluded, and fast

Some of the fairways and tee boxes weren't in great shape, but for the price, including the secluded location and great pace of play, it's hard to beat. Played on a beautiful Friday morning and felt like we had the course to ourselves (aside from the deer and turkeys). Great course if you're just looking to get a round in and are not a prima donna about amenities.

Poor course condition

The course wasn't long, approx. 5,900 yards from the blue tee and is relatively flat so walkable. Fairways are tight and large trees lined different fairways. Fairway conditions is poor compare with other courses in Nor Cal under the current drought. a lot of bald spots and some thick patches of grass in the middle of a few fairways. Putting green is in great shape though. Tee deck is terrible, grass is long and thick. I played early in the morning shortly after the course had been watered so the sand in the bunker was damp and heavy.

Good course for the higher handicap golfer

This course is somewhat short and flat with few hazards. The yardage given (6100+) appears to be off the tips. The whites are about 5700 yards -- an easy play, especially for seniors.

Ground like pavement

Fairways were very light on grass and hard as pavement. By the end of the round my arms and wrists were sore from hitting the solid ground. No diviots possible and were afraid to really hit the ball correctly. Need more water on the fairways. Would not go back nor recommend this course.

bay area jewel

greens in very good conditions. although short the course is challenging. there is plenty of obstacles to keep you honest. most of the holes are very picturesque. unlike some courses that might have one or two holes that are a delight to see. the staff is great to work with especially tom, very accommodating. Course does need some improvements, it does show it's age.

Nice walk in the shade

Came here to beat the heat in the valley. It was 20 degrees cooler than Silicon Valley. Tough course if you tend to go right off the tee. Creek in middle finds lots of balls. Stay left and you will be fine!

No Starter, Groups stacking at 1st Tee

We arrived at the 1st tee at our reserved tee time but there were 4 groups waiting already there. There were no starter in sight. It seemed like the course just took the money and sent people off with no regard to tee time at all.
Pace of play was extremely slow as there were a lot of 'walker' and children on a Sunday. Avoid it on the weekend.
